A Galaxy fan was attacked by a group of Chivas USA fans after the match outside the HDC last night. I love passion, but we really could go without this stuff here in this league. article

Associated Press basically reported that a man, who was with his wife and teenage son, was attacked by almost 50 chivas fans for wearing the galaxy shirt... here's a snippet: GM Doug Hamilton on Sunday called the confrontation an "isolated incident" and said it shouldn't be compared to fights that happen at soccer games in other parts of the world. "Galaxy games are family oriented," he said. "That is the reason why fans are mixed and not separated from one another. MLS is not like Europe or South America where they are actually intermixed and this type of thing happens in every game."

a minor scuffle is not an attack. I posted this somewhere else BUT who really knows what was said between the two parties. I assume both are partly responsible as the Sheriffs weren't called and no one was arrested. lets not blow us up to somethings its not
The Galaxy fan, 32-year-old Oscar Nuez, said he was leaving the stadium with wife and teenage son when he was attacked. "It was around 50 of them," he said. "They saw my Galaxy jersey and immediately initiated to beat me up." Those are his words, but you're right, who knows what was said between the parties? The article stated that CSUDH PD would be filing a report. If Mr. Nuez is telling the truth, then I interpret him saying that he got attacked which might result in an arrest or not.
Hamilton's quotes are disturbing. They show a man who is only interested in his bottom line and potentially not willing to face the reality that measures that are expensive may be necessary. (seperated seating, more security.) I sat near the legion last night and on they way out of the game they were members that clearly were interested in picking a fight in general.
Well, the police were there, taking a report. I don't know if anyone will be arrested, but a report was certainly filed. To quote Chalky on the Riot Squad board - I think this calls for immediate overreaction and wild-ass assumptions. Especially from people who didn't see the incident. Better still, from people who didn't see the game.
This is going to happen anywhere they play. Here in Denver they threw bottles and cups onto the field and several scuffles broke out after the game. MLS is going to have to realize that along with the additional revenue (if any) that Chivas brings in, they also bring a fanbase that is filled with scumbags.
Wow, what a surprise, the guy who negative repped me for defending Mexicans from unwarranted racist, stereotypical remarks makes a post where he trashes an entire group of people he has never met. You appear to be the the **********ing scumbag.
********ing retard. This shouldn't happen. I'm not surprised though. They were pissed because his team can't do anything on the field so they took it out on a random guy. Just sickening. Bastard.
this is disturbing to me (both what happened and the galaxy response). fyi, i witnessed an incident in the nw parking lot that involved security that seems different than the incident in the article. security stepped in before anything happened and ordered a large group of chivas fans to head to their cars, but i was close enough that i felt a little uneasy being there for a moment. i also saw a chivas fan toss a half full cup of coke at paulo nagamura when he was signing autographs on the east side of the field after the game. it missed him but got part of the guy who was with him. i'd like to think that one can go to a game wearing a galaxy jersey and not be concerned about one's safety. by the way, i also want to be clear that i again very much enjoyed being at a classico, in large part because of what the chivas fans added to the atmosphere. this isn't directed at all of them by any means. there just has to be a line drawn between cheering for your team and even booing or taunting the opposition and physical contact or intimidation of any nature. can't we all just get along?
This the way typicall mexican fans act when they lose, I've seen it may times, They just dont know how to react to losing. But unfortunatley were going to see this more and more as the years go bye trust me. Its sad but true
hey im liberal as hell and i agree. mexican fans cannot handle a loss especially to a bunch of "gueros". try talking the typical american smack to a mexican fan that involves them losing and they will try and start a fight. i had an incident in hs with a guy on my soccer team who got all bent out of shape and brought over another player and i quote him as saying "you mess with one bean you mess with the whole pot" my only reaction to that was "am i the tortilla??". the only thing i can tell mls is that they better watch closely as to what goes on when chivas is in town because a lot of people are not willing to deal with those chivas fans who are drunken scum and want to pick fights and ultimately it would end up hurting attendance in the long run.
I was having such a great time at the match even given the scoreline; that is until I too witnessed things being thrown at a Galaxy player immediately after the game. I think the very player you mention in your post. "Things" such as the Galaxy giveaway wastebaskets which could inflict bodily harm if hit in the head or eye with a sharp edge of the crushed wastebasket. I also saw a bag of candy being thrown at the player. The security escort caught the bag, which appeared to be M&M's, gestured a thank you to the fool who threw them and began to eat them. All in all I was and still am very disturbed that this has taken place. Thought isolated incidents, HDC security needs to take this very seriously before someone gets hurt. There needs to be a zero tolerance policy in place. Personally, I am going to somehow start my own crusade to get the word out amongst CDCU fans that a few bad apples are giving us decent fans a bad name. I want to see the good fans put pressure on these few bad apples to the extent of pointing them out to the authorities if need be for the greater good and future of the game, club, and league, in Los Angeles and the United States.
I don't understand how people didn't see this coming. Sorry but LA just can't handle their in-town/cross-town rivalries. Especially when you have the element of race/national orgin involved it gets even worse. We'll be seeing a lot more of this around the league in the coming years folks. This is just a sign of things to come. On that note, sorry to hear about this incident, nobody just have to deal with that kind of BS and I'm not talking BigSoccer!
1. Nobody knows the exact details of this incident. If 50 people attacked the guy, he wouldn't have just a bloody nose and a fat lip. 2. I would bet that Oscar Nuez (which means "nut" in Spanish) just may be of Hispanic origin. So where's the racial angle if he's beaten up by Chivas fans? Not there. It's about the jersey. 3. Far worse incidents have occurred in the RFK parking lot (documented on these boards), and I personally saw two guys punch each other bloody INSIDE the Cotton Bowl right in front of me at a Burn game a few years back. 4. This is all being magnified by the rivalry. 5. Nevertheless, this does not make Doug Hamilton's statement any less ludicrous, given the situation.
I agree with this. MLS knew this would happen. I'm not going to comment on this specific incident because I have no idea what happened. Overall, the Mexican fans behave at games like they're accustomed to in Mexico. That's simple. We have different unwritten rules of etiquette. As Doug Hamilton states, our sporting events aim to be family friendly. Doug needs to wake up, however. I have no idea what precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of the fans in and around the stadium. But clearly, if you write this off as an isolated incident then you're not taking it as seriously as you should. Both Chivas and Galaxy fans must feel safe going to the stadium. By the way, I was at the US-Jamaica game on Saturday. A few rows in front of me was a whole section of Mexican fans. They had flags, Mexico jerseys, etc. I guess they bought the tickets just in case Mexico was playing there. Either that or they just wanted to be obnoxious a-holes. They were absolutely piss drunk screaming obscenities at the players. The Honduras fans near me weren't going to take it. I really thought we'd have a riot on our hands. I guess they thought they could scream anything they wanted to in Spanish and nobody would understand it. Guess again. They were kindly escorted out of the stadium.
Here's a question that I'm completely ignorant of. What's the relationship between Mexican fans and fans from Central American countries. I remember the Mexico game IN Costa Rica was a near riot situation. It was clear from my experience this weekend that there was no love lost between the Mexican and Honduran fans.
It sucks that a few do spoil the bunch. It really has been a good rivalry so far and everyone I have crossed paths with has had a smile on their face saying we will get you next time. It should stay that way.
