Los Angeles and San Jose will play in the La Manga Cup 2003 in Spain as part of their pre-season build up to the new MLS season. Having already visited Asia, Central America, and South America for pre-season tours, the Galaxy will depart for the City of La Manga, Spain near Cartagena for the La Manga Cup on Friday, February 14. The 2002 MLS champions will match up in Group B against Lyn (Norway) on February 18, Odd Grenland (Norway) on February 21 and Torpedo (Russia) on February 24. "Our players and coaching staff are very excited about the 2003 MLS campaign and the more immediate challenges ahead in the La Manga Cup and the CONCACAF Champions' Cup," said Galaxy supremo Doug Hamilton. "We are extremely pleased with our off-season acquisitions, including veteran internationals Hong Myung Bo and Alex Pineda Chacon as well as talented young players such as Guillermo Gonzalez, Scot Thompson and Arturo Torres in the MLS SuperDraft." Los Angeles will then arrive back in the States to build up for their season opener against US Open Cup holders Columbus, in front of a live national TV audience on ABC at Crew Stadium. In Group A at La Manga Cup, the San Jose Earthquakes will face off against Rosenburg (Norway), Rubin (Russia) and Viking (Norway). "This tournament is a great opportunity for our club to expose itself to top quality European competition," said Earthquakes manager Frank Yallop. "We are looking forward to four or five very competitive games there. It will be interesting to see how we match up with those teams." The 2001 MLS champions will have two weeks of training at West Valley before playing an exhibition match on Sunday, February 9 against Shanghai Shenhua SVS SMEG Football Club from China, at Negoesco Stadium on the campus of the University of San Francisco. Shanghai Shenhua won the China FA Cup in 1998 and was the Jia A champion in 1995, and finished runner-up in the Jia A in 1996-1998, 2000, and 2001. After their matches in Spain, the Earthquakes has a match scheduled for Saturday, March 8 against the Chicago Fire at the Orange Bowl in Miami. The Quakes make their return to the Bay Area on March 9 and will continue to train locally leading up to the club's Saturday, April 12 season-opener against the Colorado Rapids in Denver.

No idea who Rubin is -- I wonder if any of these gams will be available on TV in the US. Anyone know? Marc
Rubin is one of the new promotees to the RPL from the 1st division, the other being Chernomorets. Can't imagine any of these games being on TV. Fox Sports World hasn't yet expanded to Eastern European teams, yet, and I doubt ESPN/ABC will even consider broadcasting this, even @ Oh-dark-thirty in the A.M.
