Ferrari is playing for sampdoria's primavera team but has yet to score in 3 games so far in the famous torneo viareggio and has played a numberous amount of games durring the season and scored only 1 goal in a 4-0 win againsted PISA. so basically this kid has scored 1 goal since the U20 world cup that he played in with USA. this kid was scoring way more last year and there was more talk here in italy. WHAT HAPPENED? this kid is/was/? talent!
This is true, and it's a bit worrying. He seems to be getting a good bit of playing time with the Primavera team lately, and often as a starter. But he just hasn't been scoring. And yesterday in the Viareggio Tournament Sampdoria beat Benevento 8-1. But none of the goals were scored by Ferrari, and he was subbed out after 42 minutes. Hopefully he at least got a few assists in this one. http://www.sampdoria.it/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2823&Itemid=100
Asking for consistency in an 18-year-old is asking a lot. Some have it, but most do not. I hope Gabe develops it, but he's still got a long way to go.
Sampdoria faced Empoli today in the quartfinals of the torneo di viareggio. They tied 1-1 full time and lost in PK's. Ferrari did not start, but was subbed in the 7th minute in the second half. He also missed a PK http://www.sampdoria.it/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2837&Itemid=100
more bad news. Ferrari's team won 1-0 but he missed another PK and did not score. http://www.zonacalcio.it/news.html?news=11619
Not wanting to screw up Ching, Altidore, Donovan (though he's more a mid, but whatever) or any other domestic striker might Bradley call up Ferrari with Johnson and some other guy for the Poland game in March? Or am I just being too optimistic? We will be prepping for for WC qualifying, but if he does well he could see time in the hardcore prep against England-Spain-Argentina and we only have to true strikers right now with recent success with the Nats and they play the same role.
My guess is that Bob will only be calling Euro players into that match. No need to bring over MLS guys who are in preseason training, when you can take a look at in-season guys who don't have to travel as far. We don't have a ton of depth at forward in Europe, so he could bring in guys like Johnson and Ferrari just so they can see what the US team is all about. My lineup guess for the Poland match: -------Johnson---Dempsey---- Convey---Bradley--Fielhaber--Adu Spector--Boca--Gooch--Dolo -----------Howard--------- I'll throw in 11 other guys that'll get called in from Europe (once again winging it) Hahnemann DeMerit Simek Whitbread Lee Nguyen Eddie Lewis Danny Szetela Ze Zizzo Will John Nate Jaqua Pat Noonan I know my lineup has flaws (Adu on the right, etc.) but hey I'm winging it. The US is like Australia at this point with two separate national teams. One of MLS players that plays games like the Denmark/Sweden friendlies, and one of Euro players. As we get closer to important WCQ matches the two are gonna be put together (Spain, Argentina, etc.)
I bet Bob will bring Donovan and a crappy left back of his choice. Ferrari is too raw for the Nats anyway. Of all the young prospects currently in the minors, one guy I wouldn't mind seeing is Johan Smith.
If all are healthy among our Euro-based forwards, Charlie Davies and Preston Zimmerman will make it before Ferrari or Smith. At least I think so
I'd rather we bring along forwards who are actually playing first team soccer. As much as Johan Smith seems intriuging, he needs to make the first team of bolton before he gets looks for the full nats. Same goes for Zimmerman and Ferrari.
