Just happened on this new g4m message on the league's Charge message board, and since it's the holiday, I've decided it's time to close the Iverson thread before any more damage to reputations, mine, the board, and the team's fans can occur. We're not only making ourselves look bad, but we're (again) the butt of jokes in that Crispy Creme thread in FCM. Here's g4m's message, which he asked Adam to x-post here, but like I said, I have way too much time on my hands and I happened to catch it first. Maybe it's something we should all consider doing... Read on... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ok im getting sick of this lambasting and trator calling of EI here and on big soccer so heres what im gonna do about it...start a letter writing campaign...you can send an email to any charge player you want to off the charge web site...i wanna see some replies to this saying that you sent her some SUPPORT for her decision. its easy to support a player or team when they are doing good or are all behind their team but when someone makes a decision that moves them away, thats what seperates the fans from the goons. not to be shy, heres what I wrote...you dont have to do this part. and yes Z i did plagerize your AI paraphrase from BigSoccer, but it was that darn good (btw Z, please post this in BigSoccer, they need to hear it as much as this board)....lets see how many people really support their charge...this isnt some silly tribute thread, this is something that shows support for doing something that unless you live in a cave or are terriblly nieve was as hard for her. you know its bad when your getting outclassed by beat fans...so lets see some support from the so called supporters Hello, Erica Ive been a Charge season ticket holder for the past season. Ive grown to become a real fan of your style on the field. However your decision to leave the charge to get married and live your life is something i have to respect you for. Any fan of any team in any league should respect sombody for doing what you are doing. I dont really care if the Charge do the right thing and trade you for boston for whatever they get, or if you have to retire...its your life and you are doing the right thing. Too often people are consumed with the game they forget its a game, im certainly no angel in this regard, i have been more than guilty of getting too wrapped up in a game. However i knew when i went home, i was home and things never really changed win or lose. This is something i think is being forgotten by my fellow fans. I see things on BigSoccer calling you a trator, yelling about your contract, telling murphy to tow a hard line and all but putting you in the same catagory as JD drew or Lindros. Their only conviction was greed. Yours is the life you want to live. I hear "make her run out her contract" instead of "congratulations on your engagement" (congratulations on your engagement Btw) All i have to say is that this behaivour is rediclious and inexcusable. There are plenty of charge fans who support your decision. after all to paraphrase your namesake "We're talking about Soccer, were talking about SOCCER, we aint talking about life here" If there were more people like you in the world, it would be a better place. Good luck in boston no matter what you were doing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And Dunkin Donuts RUTSes (runs up the score on) KK, you FCM hosers Paul
Personally, we should NOT care about any Charge players PRIVATE life. What counts is the enjoyment they give, when they step onto the pitch, the enjoyment of their soccer. My own belief is: trying to develop a personal relationship with players borders on excess. Sure we are fans, but fans of their play. Wishing to enter their private lives and becoming emotionally involved in their living of their lives is way BEYOND what real fans should do. Sure, be passionate about what happens when they play. But it stops there.
Who's "we"? Speak for yourself. No wonder "we" (or is it you?) are the butt of jokes. As to being the butt of jokes, they don't bother me, I don't bother them. Funny how some level-headed posters in the forum you moderate seem not to sway you, but people outside the forum who ridicule, do. And I see closing the Iverson thread as inappropriate. Were the posters bordering on profanity? Or perhaps sanity? Posters had various opinions on the issue, whatever those opinions may be. It doesn't bode well that the Iverson thread was closed on the heels of a poster who articulated his points well. And that the challenges and counter-points against those posts were feeble.
At any rate, the E-I to Boston thread is reopened; I just thought we all needed to cool our jets, myself included. It was a judgement call, and in hindsight it was bad judgement. I guess I took this latest round of horsedung from FCM a little too personal. They got what they wanted; to get a rise out of me. I fell for the bait...as far as I'm concerned, from this moment, FCM simply doesn't exist. I've accepted the fact Erica won't be here, the FCM folks are trolls deluxe, and I'll learn from this episode. Paul
The following is offered calmly and peaceably, though with toungue planted firmly in cheek for portions. Awwww...but everyone is the butt of jokes in the KK, including (ESPECIALLY!) those who post regularly over there! It's part of the charm! In fact, I feel terribly unloved if I don't get slammed but good over there at least once a day (M9 even did me the favor of giving me a kick over on the EI thread, which made me grin much bigger than this guy --> )!! Of course, some people over here were making it easy for those on the KK to tee off... ;-) Seriously, though...such is the hazard of putting your opinion up on the 'net to begin with--it becomes a ready target of public dissemination. "Think before you post" is a rule that almost everyone on here (yes I am very much including myself!) is guilty of breaking at last once. We all live through it, however. Hey, who you callin' a Beat fan?!?! Such sacrilege! CYBER-RAYS...CyberRays...please! ;-) The coffee at DD is much better, IMHO, but I'll take a KK over absolutely any other doughnut any day. =D Thank you. Be fair now. If we were trolling we would have brought the more serious chiding over here, but we didn't. It was kept within the confines of the KK on FCM, which is perfectly acceptable by that forum's guidelines. I don't think there was a "troll" aspect to my post (and if you do, please tell me), aside from perhaps me saying my opinions of some posters on this topic was better suited for the Rivalry forum. (Certainly, my opinion of many of the posters on BigSoccer falls into that category! However, it's also a good part of what I find fun about this place--what's sports without a good rivalry and a bit of trash-talk on occasion?) I also felt AB's (another KKer) post was a fair dissenting opinion, and offered honestly, not with the intention of insulting. I don't feel that disagreeing does not make you a troll. I do believe that going to another forum and posting stuff just to start a fight, or hurt feelings, does. For instance, while I've certainly argued the merits of various defenders on these boards, I haven't started a "The Charge defense can kiss the CyberRays defense's behind" thread in your forum (clearly "troll"ing!). Part of what's great about BigSoccer is that it gives us an opportunity to discuss different opinions, which was my purpose in posting on the thread about EI to begin with. I waited through a couple of pages worth of posts to see if anyone would pipe up with a similar stance to mine, and when no one really did, I decided it might be time for that point-of-view to have a voice. I am not a Charge fan per se, though I do have a good deal of respect for the team, which has arguably been the WUSA's most consistant through the first 2 seasons. However, I do regularly read the Charge forum because I enjoy the more in-depth discussion that happens on this forum (far more frequently than on many of the others), and I have jumped into discussions over here in the past (usually re: the defense, and players making the USWNT). Certainly, I will always present my viewpoint with some passion (and--perhaps unfortunately--a lot of words), because if I didn't really have any feelings about a subject, it wouldn't be worth my time to post anything about it. I hope, however, that I am usually able to do so without posting "angry" (I tend to post when I am in a calm and thoughtful mood, and if not, I try to be good about offering disclaimers) and becoming a troll. If my input on this forum is ever considered intentionally derisive, as opposed to simply providing an alternate viewpoint to debate, then please simply let me know and I'll refrain from contributing. It's not that big a deal to me to post if it's ruining everyone else's day.
Exactly. Paul you know I don't want to start a fight or anything I just want to clear something up. I think you have the definition of a troll mixed up. I saw no troll posts in the EI thread (well perhaps mine was a bit). Just because you don't like what was said doesn't make it a troll post. You know what honestly you invite ridicule when you post links to our conversations and call us "the peanut gallery". Not that it bothers me mind you. It just acts like an invitation for us. If you closed that EI thread because you didn't like what you read in the KK then, maybe someone else should mod. 'Cause dude if your going to call us trolls what are you? You read the KK. I know you do and you even post there sometimes. How does that not make you a troll? Look if you are gonna be so sensitive about it then why don't you just come over and join us. I promise we'll make fun of you like we make fun of each other. If you don't want to, then I can't help you... RE: Being the butt of peoples jokes. You really can't expect to post the things you do both in this forum and in rivalry and not get a response.
I agree with m9fanatic. Since I know Paul as an acquaintance, it is clear he is as loyal a Charge fan as there is. He probably is more loyal to the Charge than some of the players. And he takes losing hard, and enjoyment out of Charge wins. Also, the nuances of shades of gray are generally ignored by him. It's either white or black, with nothing in between. The real world doesn't quite work that way, it's the dullest of grays, with a splattering of white and black mixed in. The Charge are entertainment, something the general public can observe and enjoy their play. All this seriousness over winning and losing isn't what the real world is all about. All this he said, she said stuff is rhetoric with litle real consequences on how people lead their lives. That's my view. It's been for quite a while. The Iverson matter is interesting because of the affect her absence would have. We don't know what it would be exactly, but we can speculate. But when it comes to Iverson's personal life, her decisions are hers to make. We can dislike her NOT being here. But it should NEVER cloud our view of her as a person.
I've already posted my reason as to why I temporarily closed the thread. It wasn't because of the KK folks, it was simply and unequivocally because I believed we all needed to cool our jets, myself included. The fact that Erica's fiance' felt the need to post here because it got so heated maybe proved I should have done so a bit sooner. I don't think that's too hard to understand. There was no ulterior motive. Saying that the KK folks were trolls was the wrong word, I will say; bait may have been a more accurate description, and I fell for it. It will not happen again. Paul
Paul you closed the thread because you stuck your foot in your mouth. You've done this a dozen times, where you adopt a ridiculous opinion, then when the weight of the majority opinion counters your view, you adopt an I'm sorry attitude. The Erica Iverson matter is NOT the only time when this has occurred. You have a knack for alienating many posters. There are too many times where you passion for the Charge blind you to too many things. We're talking about soccer, and we're looking at a persons, Erica Iverson, private life. Ultimately a persons private decisions about their life are FAR more significant than how it relates to their job. Hopefully you learn something from this, but I don't believe so. You seem destined to repeat your follies. Make a New Years Resolution!! Prove me wrong. Please.
Hmmmm . . . . . are you delusional? See Adam's post. Closing a thread, albeit temporarily, was not the smart thing to do. Posters are entitled to their own opinion, no matter how ridiculous they seem to be. And just because other folks adopt an opinion opposite yours is not an acceptable excuse for you to close the thread. And please do not attribute a few posters' lack of sensitivity - the so-called "cooling of our jets" - as us or ours. I can only speak for myself, but it's not mine. But it's theirs. And perhaps yours. I thought foot'nmouth disease afflicts only those creatures with cloven hooves. LOL.
