I don't expect this to be a problem for me since I plan to be a season ticket holder, but I'm curious as to what the local television coverage could potentially be for MLS games? I know its awhile away, but I figured Comcast would probably not showcase MLS games (unless Beckham came to town), nor would any major broadcasting channel (unless Beckham came to town). I'd love to see a spanish channel pick them up or perhaps a smaller station...I think with their own stadium and big funding, they should at least be on TV.
Re: Looking into the future... W/o it, can you say, "Dead in the water?" Recall how the Big5 dropped off once they stopped their TV coverage.
I have a feeling many, if not all of the games not carried by national stations that have sole broadcast rights (FSC, ESPN, HDNet, TeleFutura, ect.) would be carried on CSN or CN8 during a conflict with a Phillies game. That's what they do in DC and I would imagine they would continue it here. Plus, if Comcast ends up the sponsor of the team, every game that isn't nationally broadcast on CSN seems like a guarantee.
Here in DC Comcast SportsNet has always been there for United, even when they had Orioles coverage. Right now, with both baseball teams on another regional sports network, CSN has quite a bit of DC United coverage. The local TV outlets will be the problem. It is everywhere, but it gets better as more and more of the sportscasting dinosaurs go extinct.
I fear that it might conflict w/ their other sports programming (Phillies, Flyers, Sixers). Realize, in our PhilaPA market, we'll be competing against THEIR teams, ones in which they have financial interest.
I think we shouldn't discount the possibility of Comcast being involved. Obviously, our ownership would have to come up with something of value, but Comcast could deliver any or all of the following: Games on Sportsnet and/or CN8 Highlights/Interviews on Sportsnite/SportsRise Coaches Show OnDemand Content (full games etc...) Promos across all cable networks
And THAT would be the something of value... That would include ticketing for every event at the venue.
HAHAHA i can't stand that lady. They put her on CNN for like the last 5 minutes of certain hours. For whatever reason, that always seems to coincide with the time that i can't find the remote.... Bastards
CN8 covered the Charge. They certainly will cover MLS. I mean how many people watch women's soccer? Teenage girls, their parents, younger siblings, and parents of players and maybe a couple of men who like soft core porn mixed with athletics.
I thought that's what women's volleyball was for? Seriously, CN8 would suck, but even the Phillies get dumped there sometimes, don't they?
I'm guessing that CN8 & CSN would cover the team. That leaves me out for the away games I can't make, because to get the amount of soccer coverage I get with Dish Network I'd have to pay Comcast $120+ .
Yep, that's a REAL ISSUE, 'cause they make you buy digital just to get most of their soccer programming, an extra $45+(?)/month.
I'd hope they'd have 3-5 games on regular television a year, say on 17 or 57 like the Sixers and Flyers do. Obviously not the "big" games but I think the team is going to need to be on regular air as well.
I pay 5 bucks for FSC and GOL. I didnt know there were other soccer channels? Comcast still doesn't have setanta.
