Do you guys think any of the players were able to boost their reputations and get interest from bigger clubs?
Much of this lies on the decision of the Korean govt where if they can pass the military obligations, most should make it to Europe. It's just sad that players like Park Chu-young, Ki Sung-yong have to be where there are and undervalued. If the govt decides to uplift the military service I guess their value will go up 2 folds.
I think Lee Chung Yong and Park Chu Young definitely raised their profile. Despite most of us ripping on PCY, most of the commentators seemed to have good things to say about him. He was probably on the rise on many managers' lists anyway. LCY, I feel, did the best of any Korean player seeking to raise his international profile. He already had his great debut year at Bolton to build upon, and he scored two nice goals in the tournament. KSY showed his skill in set pieces, and I think he played well in most games, but he didn't do anything particularly flashy. However, FIFA did pay attention to him as a potential winner of the Young Player Award. The Asian player who will be the hottest commodity is undoubtedly Keisuke Honda. Maybe a mid-tier EPL team looking to play seriously with the heavyweights will pick him up.
LCY, PCY will most likely be solid starting material in their respective leagues. KSY im not too sure.hes been rotting on the bench. and i hope SUK makes it into ajax starting rotation next season. and NAM in ligue1 hopefully improves.
I agree with above comments. The only thing I'll add is Cha Du Ri might have extended his European career a few years. He had a couple of defensive blunders but his speed, strength, and consistent crosses had to attract attention from some clubs. Maybe he has a shot at a lower level Premier League team? I don't know. Although we didn't get to see Kim Jae Sung play much, I hope he gets a shot at PSV. He's the one player on the Korean team that's not been on the scouting radar that I think has a chance. He's fast, very fit, strong, and shows glimpses of real skill. Overall, I think people are slowly showing us more respect but I don't think it'll have a big impact on our current squad. If I had to guess, the increasing respect means scouts will be more open to taking our younger U21 players (Lee Seung Ryul, Suk, Nam, etc..).
Lee Chung Yong proved a lot in this World Cup. Messi sucks he hasn't scored a goal yet when LCY scored two. Barcelona will probably replace Messi with Lee Chung Yong. Ki has impressed as well. Liverpool will probably sell Gerrard for Kirrard.
Yea it seems like park chu young was highest rated in the 4 games by goal.com. Its too bad he couldnt score another.
No, in few more years, I will sacrifice my body for the love of Korea. 18 years later there will be a Korean Messi that will get us the World Cup Glory. But then, before I do that, I need a women that will help me forfill my dream.
PJY will move to a bigger English team in the next year or two. We knew this would happen regardless of his performances in the WC. Also, I did read a lot of neutral viewers rate PJY for his WC performances. LCY will stay in Bolton because he isn't dumb. KSY is still attracting interests and hopefully he gets more playing time in Celtic (with a little more emphasis thorugh the CM please) with freedom to attack. CYH seems to be getting a lot of interest from European clubs. Also, don't expect Dr Cha to stay in Europe. He stated that he wants to go back to Korea because he wants to raise his kid there.
i agree. PJS and PJY were probably the most feared players to the opposition. LCY will most likely move to a bigger club if he keeps improving at the rate hes going. and i really hope CYH goes to a high profile league in europe.
Cha Bumkeun's career took off in his early 30's. Cha Duri's career as a defender has just started and it's still on the first chapter. The guy's always had problems with ambitions. He needs to stay in Europe, strive to the best he can possibly be, and look to play for Korea until 2014 and more. His dad needs to set him straight, too.
The man's going to focus on developing youth academies and teaching elementary skills to underaged youths. Teaching little kids is something he thought was essential to Korean football and also something he promised Korea when he left to play for Germany. Some of the better players have come out of his academies (albeit he runs over a hundread academies; I remember getting scouted to join when i was the lone fourth grader in my school's football team), so let him do what he thinks is important.
That's where he belonged since the first day after his playing career ended. Granted, I actually have a lot of respect for the basis of his coaching philosophy (defense first and efficiency in attack), but what held him from being a quality coach was his inability to mentally thrive under pressure. As far as coaches are concerned, there are ones who can seize the moment when the pressure is on (Hiddink, Mourinho, etc), and then there are ones who panic and struggle because they simply can't cope with the pressure that's being put on them from the fans, media and the magnitude of handling big matches. Unfortunately, Cha as a coach was the latter.
No, hopefully that doesn't happen for the sake of K-League and the man himself. Plus, what he's been doing with his youth academy has had far bigger impact on Korean football as a whole than what he's done as a coach.
????????????????? The only thing that he should be used for...is his connections in Europe(Germany) and be a K-League/KFA ambassador.
Park CY could've scored 3-4 goals and really make a name for himself - all those chances he squandered, meh.
