I loved Wor Kev's reply. First he said he didn't see anything, and that as "the manager I have this bad habit of watching the game on the pitch". Then he said well whatever Robbie did might be understandable as you have no idea what Robbie has to take from United supporters at Old Crapford as Robbie "has played for the three teams they hate the most -- Liverpool, Leeds, and City". Good on you, Kev
the thing about Fowler is he is out of shape. He can still score goals if he was in shape. He doesn't have the pace of the 90s because of injuries. but If he wa sin shape and took care of himself I would be all for bringing him back at Anfield. Hell bring both him and Morientes.
Keegan? God of Liverpool? You having a laugh mate? If Keegan had been truthful and said he was leaving the Greatest Team In Europe for more money then maybe he would be more respected in Liverpool for his untimely decision. Ten-folding your wages is a good thing, but dont leave for the 'challenge' in hamburg?!?! Keegan has since proved to be an imbecile anyway. 'Ferguson better than Paisley', eh Kev? You stupid runt!
I was sitting about 10ft away and saw him give the four fingers and flip the United fans the "bird" (Liverpool pun intended)... My fiance was laughing so hard. What does the 4 fingers mean though?
Something that has been won by Liverpool more than any other English club side and something that the Red Nosed Alcoholic has been trying and failing to emulate - 4 European Cups.
That's classic. He really got them riled up. What do you guys think of Fowler now? Is there any anomosity since he left Liverpool? How is he perceived? How is he remembered? My Chelsea love tells me to hate Fowler because of the whole LeSaux incidents but I just think he's funny. I would love to drink with him in a pub, he seems like a normal guy.
Robbie will always be fondly remembered. The goals and the cheek, and the shirt in support of the dock workers. He is a genuine LFC hero. Remember the good and overlook the less so.
Here are some pics from last weekend's game against Birmingham and from the United/City game (Fowler warming up) or check them all out here: photos.yahoo.com/eddie_batcho (warning I am in the pics...and the girl is my fiance so lay off... ) Robbie Fowler warming up at the United/City game...
Yeah, Robbie is my hero, some of his goals are just amazing! Especially this one goal I think is unsurpassable in terms of skill & vision: He dived towards the feet of a defender to connect to a low cross from the right wing to score a goal with his head!! Sorry I can't remember it was against which team but I can assure you his skills and genius in scoring the goal is unforgettable if you have seen it. Please, can anybody recall it?
My schoolfriend's sister met this lad, who was playing for the reserves at the time in a pub in Crosby and told him they she's got a cat named after him, totally embarrassing the poor bloke. A couple of months later the lad scored 5 goals in a Cup tie against Fulham (to which my very good friend from uni went). The lad was Robbie Fowler. I was living in Liverpool when he was in his pomp. He was breathtaking. He could do everything, his vision was unbelievable, his shooting extraordinary, the finesse of his technique so pure. The Kop adored him in a way that, say, Owen was never adored. He scored 30 goals in each of his first three seasons. His partnership with Stan was superb and his goal in front of the Kop to win the second 4-3 is probably one of the best moments I've had at a football match... I was in Madrid in February 1998, when he picked up the first of his injuries - an innocuous challenge with the Everton keeper in the last minute of a 0-0 derby. After that, it was a catalogue of injuries (some say, it was a front for his long spells in rehad from coke, but, funnily enough, no one can prove that for certain, unlike, say Mutu, and he never missed a drug test, unlike Duckface... There were wonderful moments after the injury - the line-sniffing, whilst inspiring a win over the Bluenoses, even the Le Saux incident (many Liverpool fans can't stand him ), there was the exhibition with Jari Litmanen against Crystal Palace in January 2001, there was the brilliant goal against the Brum in the League Cup final in February 2001, the goal in the UEFA Cup final that had Alan Hansen in the studio on his desk , his last hat-trick at Leicester (I think, or was it Derby?)... I remember feeling terrible sadness when he left, even though everyone knew that it was time... I was properly depressed for 2 or 3 days - very, very weird... People in Liverpool think that unfortunately Fowler's talent was overlooked on a wider stage as idiot England managers weren't picking him and when they did, didn't know what to do with him and he deserved to win much more than he did. It was not for nothing that teammates called him God to his face. No player has been adored like that until last season and Steven Gerrard carrying a poor side and never ever giving up. The best performance last season came away in Brum when Gerrard was immense and for the first time you could sense in the crowd that there was similar adulation/admiration that was once reserved for Fowler...
The Dockers shirts - remember we all went to a game at the time with most of us in Dockers shirts - on of mate's dad worked on the docks and was laid off, having worked there for 28 years.
Oh, there was one away to Brann - back-heel flick over his head, smacks it in on the volley. Then there was the second against Villa in the FA Cups semi... Ohhhh...
That second goal was terrific...... even Andy Gray had to say... "I don't know what to say...." speechless for maybe the first time in his life!!! The header mentioned by London Wanka was in the same FA Cup Semi.... his first goal of that match. The second was indeed fantastic. Robbie just backed away from penalty spot while a free kick was being lofted into the area. The defender (who moments ago was marking Fowler) headed the ball away from goal, and he presumeably thought, out of the area.... but Fowler was waiting for it, chested it down, and volleyed it in off the far post in a flash, sealing the match for LFC. It is on the Fowler Hot 100 video (His first 100 goals for LFC). HIs play back then was breathtaking, and impossible to convey with words.. Fowler is the reason I became a Liverpool supporter. I was first exposed to the EPL while he was in his prime, banging in goals from everywhere, and so, so many of them on first and second touches, earning him the rightful title of best natural finisher in England. At LEAST half, probably more of his goals on the Hot 100 were first or second touches) Not long after I saw bits of my first Liverpool match, in which I was very attracted to the Liverpool style of play, Robbie scored his hat-trick against Arsenal in less than 4 minutes.. or was it 3? Amazing, and a record which may never be broken. Needless to say, I was hooked on this striker, and this team, and still am. I even named the family dog "Fowler." He's the only dog in Indiana named after God, I guarantee you that. When I'm really mad, the dog knows it, as "Fowler" becomes "Fow-Lah," in full Yank-Scouse mode. Robbie left Anfield years ago, and have never been the same, but I get to hear his name everyday..... Walk On Robbie F
Great post...where the hell have you been, haven't seen you around for a while? Will work for tape...!!! If anyone has copies of the 4-3 matches I'd love to share them with my U14 team. Sometimes on lousey weather practice nights we'll watch a tape and discuss moves. That's how they realized how the fullback overlap works. I'll pay postage!!!
I have an official (ie. good quality) copy of the first match. And the Fowler Hot 100, Legendary Liverpool Goals, Official History of LFC, etc, etc... PM if you need copies.
Pretty please.!!! Let me pay for tape, copying, postage and any other expence. When I next get in the Bay Area I'll give you a big kiss........Hello, still there......
