If Ireland have every defender available to them, what would you say our full strenght defence would be? I'd say from left to right it'd be

    Finnan, O'Shea, Dunne, Carr

But, with O'Shea and Finnans versatility, Cunningham on amazing form for the Brummies and even Babb versatile and on form, Andy O'Brien a regular CL started and plays on front of Given at club level, really anyone from Cunningham, Kenna, Kelly, Harte, Babb, Breen, O'Brien aswell as the four mentioned above could have somewhat of a chance of getting into the defence.

Since the boards have been slower then trigger latley, I thought it might spark a little life, so what do you lot reckon our best defence is, and what's the one were likely to see come out against Scotland, if we're playing a full strenght 11?

Can't argue with that in fairness.

I think picking the foursome that will line out against the Hoots is nigh on impossible - withdrawls and Sir FergusHun's almost inevitable claim that O'Shea will be injured make it a total lottery.

if we're talking absolute full strength then i'd have carr in his normal left full ahead of finnan. although it's great to see dunne returning to his best form it think that a partnership with o'shea, while great on paper, is a little too inexperienced for international level. i'd put o'shea or finnan into the left back and possibly someone level headed like cunningham, who is accept is woefully slow, alongside dunne to marshal the defence.

of the other names that were mentioned i think it's unlikely that babb or kenna will ever seriously feature for ireland again. breen isn't getting a game in a bad west ham side. harte's club form will probably see him sold off sooner than later and kelly (if he isn't sold off as well) seems to adapting to the right midfield role.

strange how nobody has mentioned the defensive qualities of doherty and delap

dont forget our good friend Kevin Kilbane trying out for the left back role as well!!

I see Reid has been playing on the left of midfield for Millwall recently........

Why are we even having this discussion - I thought we'd agreed that Stevie Finnan is going to play every position, including kit man, single-handedly.

No. You know that only Matt Holland is capable of doing all this!
