You're misreading the American fanbase badly. The Red Bulls supporters groups ********ing hate him.

Why? Are they still bitter about him choosing Italy over US? That should be water under the bridge at this point. Don't know why they wouldn't welcome him with open arms, if he still has talent.

I still don't get any hate. He's bared the burden already.

Why would he be a huge hit wherever he plays?

If anyone scores goals they will be a huge hit anywhere.

Rossi has battled injury and effectiveness for about 10 years now. Only hard core soccer fans will know/remember him and he has at best a controversial relationship with USMNT fans.

Pick a reason. That, his celebrations, the fact that he often uses MLS as a last resort destination, the fact that he kind of seems like a tone-deaf idiot.

As I see it, he'll get a similar reception to Rafa Marquez if he goes to New York. That reception was...chilly, at best.

Rafa Marquez was the leading player for our nation's chief rival, who played against us many, many times, including in a World Cup. I can understand the contempt for him.

But Rossi played against us once, in a Confederations Cup, and scored two goals, one of which was pretty incredible from long-range, which he rightfully celebrated. Back in 2009. So I don't understand holding that against him ten years later.

As for treating MLS as a last resort, I don't blame him for that (if true). The guy has played for some of Europe's biggest teams (Man U, Villareal, Fiorentina), so I didn't expect him to come to MLS so long as he had European options. He's not doing anything different than Pulisic or dozens of other players - he goes wherever they offer him the most money and best competition. He's entitled to live where he wants to live.

Look, I wish he had decided to play for the US too, but what's past is past. If he can lead the Red Bulls or NYCFC to an MLS Cup, I'm sure much would be forgiven.

Maybe his 20 or so caps with Italy might ring a few bells for some, but his best best is Serie B or retire and release an autobiography

Say, you wouldn't want Rossi to come to MLS, would you?

Rumors now state Tottenham is interested, after Harry Kane's injury. That would be a great deal for Rossi, but I'll believe it when I see it.

He's be a great Hail Mary for a team in the bottom three. Won't cost much, desperate to play one last time in the show, and if healthy a pretty good goal scorer. I'd give him an incentive laden contract if I'm N'castle or Huddersfield. Goal bonuses and non-relegation bonuses galore.

Plenty of clubs that could use him to be fair. Fulham just jettisoned that nutcase Kamara finally , would be a good fit there. Same with Newcastle . More than a few teams need a striker even injury prone one
