Hard to believe St. Louis couldn't make the deal happen.

I think Burki's eating up a lot of their payroll. $1.7 million is fair amount for MLS and a hell of a lot for a GK when you consider that the next-highest GK salary was Eloy Room at $8-850k and Lloris is supposed to be on $350k.

There's probably $600k or more a season not available that a very good MLS GK salary instead could make available for Ream.

Then again, I don't know MLS that well and certainly not as well as you do

I thought that too as he never impressed me that much at Dortmund but he has been really good in MLS. Anyway a DP only eats so much of the salary cap no matter what they get paid so if they had room for another DP or other room under the cap it would seem a natural spot for him in MLS.

Does it have anything to do with MLS Discovery Rights? I hear that LAG are paying CLT $350k for Reus because Marco won't play in Charlotte (******** him, we really need a CAM - much more than a left-footed CB).

Reading between the lines. Right now, with the current rosters, Charlotte doesn't need a CB. The team has conceded 18 goals in 17 games. In terms of defense, that's good.

But I think this could mean Adilson Malanda might be getting sold to a European team soon. He's been really good for Charlotte.

For MLS, it would be a win-win.

One, Ream completes the cycle (started in MLS, earned his first cap with the USMNT while in MLS, sold to Europe, great success there, plays in WC and Copa, returns to MLS). Playing for St. Louis or RBNY would be better, but Charlotte has the means and possibly the need to make it happen.

Two: Malanda being sold to a good European team would be evidence you can come to this league as a young foreigner from Europe, develop, and get sold to a higher league in Europe.

I know about the salary cap but it’s a nuts amount to pay for Burki of all people.

True, if for no other reason than there's not a whole lot of defensive experience in the current squad or the recent callups and Zimmerman apart, none of that is at CB.

Playing for Charlotte is better than not playing for Fulham. He made one start since February 17th. Fulham have moved on.

I agree that the World Cup in 2026 was always a long shot for Tim. But not many young American central defenders have emerged since the 2019 U-20 class of Richards and Mckenzie. That has made it a little more realistic than it should be. But still, it's quite a bit less than 50-50 he goes, regardless of what club he's at.

But he still needs to play to have any chance and the market for a soon-to-be 37 year old defender is limited. But no matter where he goes, he'll bring with him a ton of experience that will always give him an edge.

It's like I always said, Yedlin didn't get picked for the 2022 World Cup team because he was in MLS. He got picked because he had the experience of 110 Premier League games, 1 previous World Cup, 1 previous Copa America, 1 successful Championship promotion into the Premier League, and a decent haul with the Sounders.

Ream has experience that is beyond what most players have. It's just a question of his body holding up and others emerging to take his roster spot. We all know Father Time always wins, but it's a question of when. Ream hasn't lost that battle yet.

Fulham was safe. Not going down and not qualifying for anything. They were smart to solidify next year's back line. If that is who is going to be there. They love Tim and I'm sure there was no animosity while he was sitting. Let's hope he is totally healthy for the summer, if he plays and for wherever his career takes him. He has been a great servant for Fulham and the USMNT. Good Luck, Tim.

I doubt there was disappointment or even much regret.

He's a realist and that's part of his character, which is why he's had the European career he's had.

Fulham picked him up for €1.7 million from Bolton in August 2015.

It's hard to think of an EPL signing in the last 10 years that's been anywhere near as good value for money.

Maybe Seamus Coleman, but he joined Everton 15 years ago

Don't be mad at Reus for this. He's made of glass and no way would he hold up on artificial turf. For that reason you shouldn't want him.

Doesn’t STL City have their allotment of DP’s?

STL City have the lowest payroll in the league.

Not known for throwing around money.

Players want to play. I guess Tim ("Time"?) Ream doesn't want to be a bench option at Fulham for the twighlight of his playing days.

That was the first post in this thread. We cannot let this post just close when Ream signs in MLS. it won’t feel right. 12.5 years is a long ass time. Let’s respect Ream! Plus, I think but can’t quite remember if I named this thread. :D

Where does he rank for Fulham yanks abroad?

Below Dempsey and McBride? Probably higher than Bocanegra.

That would be a good question for Fulham fans. Obviously, goalscorers are easier to remember than CBs (and both McBride and Dempsey had a fair few important goals for Fulham). However, a guy who plays more than 300 games for a club over nearly a decade is surely one who is remembered well. There are not many players that hit those numbers for a single club.
