According to soccernet.com, Fulham have signed Senegal midfielder Papa Bouba Diop. He is a 26 year old defensive midfielder. He played last year for Lens in France. I do not know much about him, nut from what I am reading, he is going to do just fine for Fulham. Does anyone know much about this guy?

I don't really know anything about the guy either, but here's Sky's write-up of the transfer:

    Yet another Fulham signing...

Well I guess we found out who Cookie was looking for in regards to midfield. I've read this guy is tall, quick and can run forever. Another great signing...

Of course sky could never give us credit...instead of Diop choosing us over fratton park, they have said that Redcrap wasn't keen on him. But I hear that was not the case.

Anywho, my coffee is extra good this morning...

    Yes, yes it is...

Cole, Jensen and Diop all signed under the radar, job well done!

From what I have read on SKY, Soccernet and Soccer365.com, this guy is a pretty good player. I like the signing. I think it will work out great for Fulham. I can't wait for the season to start.

maybe it will turn out great... probably not... so far all the senegal siging that have been brought into the premierhip have been failures. ie. elhadi diouf and his senegalese friend being brought into liverpool. i was suproised liverpool didnt go for diop then and get all three. now after seeing diouf for 2 years in liverpool, i don't know how diop will do in english circumstances.

HAHA! What a coupe! Cookie is awesome! This is a real slap in the face to Pompey. First, we take our offer for Amdy Faye off the table once he shows for his medical with a re-injured knee (apparently happened while playing for Senegal this summer). Then Pompey say how Amdy is looking forward to playing with his national teammate Diop when he gets healthy and they both hit the midfield together. Now Cookie comes in and gets his signature. Great move!

I remember he showed pretty well at the last WC, so maybe he's going to really help out the side. Glad we got another midfielder before the start of the campaign. Now Fulham can play hardball for Junichi. We no longer "need" him and we can afford to wait for his club in Japan to lower their price.

It just feels great to be a team that has some clout in the transfer market. Players are taking notice of Fulham, and choosing us over others. Lets hope these players gel quickly.

    From the Portsmouth website:

MILAN MANDARIC today reacted with anger as Fulham snatched Papa Diop from Pompey's grasp and said: My club would not act this way.

The Cottagers this afternoon announced they had captured Diop from Lens for an undisclosed fee.

Mandaric said: ‘Sadly Fulham have come and taken this player from us.

‘They haven't broken any rules but Fulham have taken the player away from us in a way I wouldn't have acted.

‘I wouldn't have thought Mr Al-Fayed would like to endorse this kind of behaviour. The way the whole issue has been handled is unacceptable

Uhhh...who tried selling us a player with bum knee...

Papa helped Senegal I think into the quarterfinals of Korea/Japan in 2002.I am sure that he was the one of scored against France when they beat France in the group stage 1-0.

He'll definitely boost Fulham's midfield.Maybe one of those players who could help into Europe.

Papa was very good in WC 2002. I think I will add Fulham to my FM 2005 list of teams to manage.

After suffering through the friendly vs. Watford and the friendly vs. Rangers, what Fulham really needed was someone who could control the midfield.

I don't remember much about how Mr. Diop plays, but hopefully he can help out in this regard.

The midfield as I see it now...

If we play 4 in the middle:
    Jensen---Malbranque---Diop---Leqwinski

    If we play 5:

    Diop
    Radzinski---Malbranque---Jensen---Leqwinski
