I remember when he started writing that over a year ago but then nothing else ever came of it other than that first post. He asked me for information about the Strikers because of my tribute website.
You sure do! And on this one too: Ft Lauderdale Strikers History: PART III: PRO SOCCER LEAVES MIAMI http://bit.ly/dvZ5cs
I love that '83 cover lol. I'd like to see a photographer trying to convince a team today to do that.
Yeah, really. I think my favorite is the 1982 cover. The jerseys hanging from the rack on the beach just looks too cool.
Those are owned by Robert Scorca. I believe he has 2 of each. Maybe you can convince him to give you the other two? True, most players nowadays would think doing a human 83 would be beneath them. Here is the last episode of 'History of the Ft Lauderdale Strikers Part IV' NASL is gone what's next? by Robert Scorca The Winn Dixie Strikers! http://bit.ly/bgy0e0
Ah, yes. I remember the Winn Dixie Strikers. The last summer home from FSU was in 1988. My mother lived about a mile or so south of Lockhart and I would walk through some neighborhoods to the stadium some nights to catch a match. In fact, I think I used to get there just after halftime when they had the gates open and I got in for free. You know it's weird. I have actually seen all three incarnations of the Strikers play. The USISL club played the Nashville Metros up here one year and I went to that match. Now if Miami FC becomes Strikers 4.0 I don't know when I would have a chance to see them play.
Everything you want to know about the Strikers you can find out by just going to ftlauderdalestrikers.com It's a site created by Jeffrey Duly, a soccer fan who grew up following the most successful team in South Florida soccer history. Read more about it Here: http://bit.ly/cbS6VD
The Ft. Lauderdale Strikers have such a rich heritage. It is refreshing to see American soccer clubs find their "roots". The Earthquakes, Sounders, Rowdies, Cosmos and now the Strikers ... The NASL years had Banks, Cubillas, Best, Hudson and Muller ... The APSL years had Meola, Ardilles, Alonso, Rongen and Eichmann ... It will be interesting to see who will wear the hoops in the coming years to add to the list of international stars. GOOD LUCK Strikers !
