I wanna move to Canada! I'm so sick of hrs and hrs of infomercials on FSW while our friends north of the border kick back to watch live EPL matches.

    WHYYYYYYY??????

Has anyone else complained? Asked why? I'd boycott....but then again, it's the only soccer station I have. ARRRGGGHHH!

FSW doesn't sell enough ads in the US. PPV helps pay the bills.

I didn't know the Canadians were such major fans of FSW and its programming that they'd do a lot better with advertising. I've always thought it was puzzling how the FSW showed so much more live soccer in Canada. But wouldn't it make sense that they'd get more advertising dollars in the US by showing live EPL instead of stuff that few people watch?

    move to Canada

MLS is the only league that doesn't have better coverage in Canada than the U.S. Even without FSWC I can watch 2 Premier League games every Saturday, some Spanish league games and starting Saturday FA Cup games.
This weekend Sportsnet (cable sports station) is showing Watford v Chelsea, Southampton v Newcastle, Manchester United v Villa & Leeds v Arsenal.

Also TLN (Telelatino) shows 4 or 5 Serie A games every weekend w/ English commentary.

Plus, you'll also love our Healthcare, liberal pot laws & gay marriages.

    Re: move to Canada

Can't we just annex you? ;)

Ok, seriously, are there many good jobs over there? As a US citizen I'd have no problem moving there, so it's really not a bad idea.....

i would guess that buying the rights to show soccer in canada is whole lot cheaper than buying the rights to show it in the the usa

    that is your #1 answer

it always comes down to money

and i would also bet the ratings are probably identical in usa and canada
but i would love to see those kind of numbers

Money is a factor but one that goes both ways. With a population that is fraction of the US television networks have a much smaller potential audience so the $$ they can bring in from advertisers is much smaller.

Canada also has a different view of immigrants than the US. Canada is an officially multi-cultural society that encourages immigrants to maintain the culture they grew up with. In practice, people who move to the US think of themselves as Americans immediately while in Canada people often identify themselves as Italian-Canadians, Korea-Canadian or whatever. In some parts of America the US might feel like an away team against Mexico or South American teams. If Canada was playing an international match in Toronto they would feel like the visiting team playing against Italy, Greece, Portugal, Korea, England, Scotland and probably many more. Often this is by 2nd and third generation Canadians.

Canada is part of the Commonwealth so our ties to Great Britain and its culture are very strong as well.

Plus as a small country with only 1 sports leagueof our own, the CFL, we are used to following leagues from other countries.

Canadian stations are much more soccer friendly than American stations, at least before the launch of GolTV. A few years back, there were games on Canadian channels that you cannot find whatsoever on American channels, including

    - a CL game involving French teams, as well as les Bleus, on a French channel RFO on St. Pierre et Miguelon. This channel is only available on Quebec cable, Bell ExpressVu and Star Choice.
    - a CL game on TSN on the day that ESPN2 is not showing CL soccer
    - an abundance of Serie A games, much better coverage than RAI International
    - EPL games on FSW Canada and SportsNet that you can only get on PPV in the U.S.
    - European Championship on TSN instead of on PPV
    - World Cup with British feeds (and commentaries) instead of the pitiful Jack and Ty, or on a language (Spanish) that you don't understand...
    - Classic Sports Canada showing old FA Cup Finals
    - exactly this time last year, a French channel was showing a series of "History of European football". Lots of footage of the European Cup, Cup winners Cup and Fair Cup of 30-40 years ago. I bet 99.9999% of the fans here have never seen these footage...

Of course in Canada you've got to be prepared for Champions League games being bumped to midnight to accomodate curling.

I bet you don't know that when the CL games (mostly the later round games after the New Year) being bumped to midnight, the same games would be televised live on RDS, the French version of TSN.

It's RDS' aquisition of the French rights of the CL that prohibit RFO to televise the games involving the French teams...

I'm thinking of buying a Bell Expressvu system and going through a broker for programming. From what I hear its pretty easy to do.Also you can get both of the sports packages for around $20 a month.I mean they get the EPL matches we have to pay for plus the FSW games all live.Plus the FA Cup.
