I just saw a promo for Celtic-Liverpool that touted Celtic as "Irish champions." For a network that bills itself as America's soccer channel surely they have somebody fact check that Celtic play in bloody SCOTLAND!!!!!!! And before some two bit tosspot tells me that Celtic has a huge following in Ireland,I know. They still play league football in Scotland.
You have got to be kidding. That's horrible. Maybe they'll tout Manchester United as "New Hampshire champions" next.
I just saw that FSW promo of which you spoke. And this is the network that so many jacknuts on here want to entrust MLS to because they're soooooooooo much better than ESPN?
Kenn, Don't you do games on FSW?? I don't know who writes their promos, but he/she is just terrible. The wording is awkward and sometimes non-sensical. They use the same stupid, "Two teams have dominated ______ league for years, but now a bunch of new challengers have emerged" for several different leagues. They did that for the Eredivisie last season, and I kept trying to figure out which team was finally going to challenge Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord.
Just freelance, mate. I don't have any contact with anybody there, or know who does what. I just show up and talk. But that particular promo had to have been run by somebody at "America's Soccer Channel," you would think, right?
Hey, I'm not defending anything they do. I just thought it was funny that a FSW "personality" (and I'm being very loose with that term, I know) would publicly ridicule it. And I was mostly screwing around anyway. But I do find if funny that FSW promotes itself as America's Soccer Channel when GOLTV is at least an all soccer channel. FSW shows rugby, Aussie rules, racing, cricket, darts and all kinds of nonsense. When you add in infomercials, I'd guess that actual soccer coverage is less then 50% of FSW's programming.
Hey, truth is truth - what do you want me to say, "Uh, really, Ireland is close to Scotland?" "Maybe you mis-heard it?" I'm a soccer fan. It's bogus that that promo got on the air. And FSW doesn't pay me, an independent producer does. If you haven't noticed, the many roles I play don't seem to factor into what I say on Bigsoccer, within reason. As soon as one of the people cutting checks for me tells me to watch it, fine. But they haven't yet.
When I saw the commercial for "Irish champions Celtic" I first thought I was just hearing things. I'm not from Scotland or anything, but I would guess that this is sort of an insult for Scots, especially Scottish football fans. It reminded me of a scene in the movie Finding Forrester when the boy (I can't remember his name) jokingly asks Forrester (who is Scottish) about his trip to Ireland to visit his family.
Is it really an insult or a wakeup call to the Scottish Celtic fans...during the CL and UEFA cup I saw tons of irish flags at the matches and very very few scottish flags. The fans seem to wear either the celtic shirt or ireland shirts. Of course blue is the color of their rivals, rangers, but maybe its time for the celtic fans to be more proud of their nationality. Does it really hurt to hang a scotland flag? For a casual fan they will think celtic is from ireland.
really, irish flags at a celtic game ?!?! they claim to be americas soccer channel..... it wouldnt hurt to do a little research before you put together a promo... the idiots are in charge at fsw... Cantona---
Irish immigrants started football club-Celtic.That's why their colours are green. That's why they called actually -Celtic.That's why they are so popular in Ireland and In United States(amongst irish mostly). And maybe that's why FSW called them true Irish champions.Just a guess.
