What's everyone experience with the FSW broadcast quality? I've noticed recently that there is a lot of stuttering and pausing of the image and sound on this channel lately. My observation is that it's only on the "live" footy broadcasts. I see it constantly on any of the EPL and South American matches.

For example, it's now at 5:30 of the Aston Villa v Portsmouth match. The broadcast has paused/jittered/jumped no less than a dozen times. The sound also constantly fades in and out. Adelphia says there's no problem on their side (I'd expect them to say that!).

My gut feel is that it's FSW (low budget production?). None of the other digital channels exhibit this problem - ever. I've swapped out my cable box, changed cables, TV's, etc. Nothing works.

The FSW footy broadcasts suck! Any similar (or different) experiences?

We had this discussion not too long aga. Apparently it happens when your cable provider employs digital compression on the signal. My broadcasts recently sounded like a little kid was turning the volume on and off. It' been better lately, though.

    No, no, no...stutters, etc...are a transmission problem.
Nothing to do with signal compression.

You cable/satallite company ALWAYS is digitally compressing the feed, but some channels compressed more than others.

For reference, here's the other thread: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=143610

Most of the people complaining all used the same cable provider.

That thread only talks about audio, ClevelandFC also mentions image stuttering and I have seen that lately as well, I'm not on cable, and the match was live.

The whole experience is getting much worse for me. It's now to the point that I can't watch the match for long stretches at a time. My cable provider (Adelphia) has at least given me the impression that they've looked into the problem and they are claiming no problems on their side.

A thought. Is FSW perhaps paying for a lower satellite bandwidth at times? I have no idea if such a thing exists/is possible, but the poor quality I see is almost exactly like watching a higher speed (300kbps) media file on a crappy Internet link.

In the 5 minutes it took to write this, I've been watching PSG v Lyon. The feed has stuttered/stopped/paused at least 7 or 8 times. It's the only digital channel that does this and it's only on the soccer matches. I never see it on any of the news shows or infomercials.

do any of the people here having problems have satellite? i have fox sports world on both dish network and directv and don't have any of these stuttering problems.

also are any of you using DVRs like tivos? if you get a lot of stuttering on live stuff (live stuff is still technically recorded... it's buffered 2-5 seconds) it may be a bad hard drive, but if you are only getting it on FSW that could be one of 2 things... it's not the DVR or all you watch is FSW.

I don't have a problem with the signal through DirecTV. The digital signal has to be compressed in order fo it to get to your TV. My guess is that the problems people have via cable has to do with background noise on the cable line. A little bit of interference on one of the weaker channels would be enough to screw up the signal a little.

Adelphia sucks. Actually, it really sucks. They have been teetering on doing a BK for awhile now....I hope they get bought out soon.

I have DirecTV for now though, and I get pretty good quality of FSW.

I have a crappy provider and the feed stutters occasionally (maybe less than five times in a match) but nothing worth getting upset over.

I have had directv for about 1 yr and the picture on fsw is fine. I get clear picture and no audio problems. I had fsw with Time Warner it was decent but it had its moments.

Was it really only 6 years ago that the ONLY way to see an EPL game was by finding an English Pub, paying $10 to get in and hoping the transmission wouldn't cut out halfway through the match? Back then you only got 2 matches/week and you were happy with that. Now we get several matches each week that we can watch at home without paying a cover. Yes, some times satallite feeds go back..usually it's only for a few seconds. I've seen the same sort of thing during college football games on ESPN as well. So what? It's a minor inconvinence and in my opinion, doesn't take away from my overall enjoyment of the match. It's the price of being able to get live matches from the other side of the world. I'd much rather have what is available today rather than a return to what we had just a few years ago.

The problem is cable, pure and simple. We've had DirecTV since August 2000, and the Premiership broadcasts have been first-rate. What's more, we haven't need a single service call during that entire period. By comparison, the cable guys used to visit us at least once a month.

Cable TV is the dark side. That's all you need to know. ;)
