I believe he has 2 goals and 5 assists in all competitions (2 goals and 3 assists in the league) after this match. This is courtesy of ESPN Soccernet.

Arsenal fans are saying it's 2+8.

Either way, he's the best FSU player easy right now.

And don't give me that Tymoshcuk crap because Arshavin's talent is ten fold of Tymoschuk's.

If only Tymo and Hleb played for Russia.

    ---Tymo---
    Hleb-Semshov-Zyrynaov
    -------AA
    ---------Pav

With Anyukov and Zhirkov as the fullbacks ?
World cup contender despite the average central defense.

It's no knock on Arshavin, he's been excellent for Arsenal. Assists are just generally interpreted differently sometimes. Soccernet probably counts just direct passes (last pass), while others may count any player who had a significant pass/contribution to the overall outcome of a goal.

I think Andrei's had a direct assist in most of Arsenal's games. The high number of assists doesn't strike me because of his role on the team. He's playing great in that link up role and it shows with his big assist total.

He's got a lot of style and smarts, he will help Arsenal win trophies if that team can stay healthy.

Wow, I saw the full Arsenal highlights. Arshavin also hit the post with a great low drive just outside the box.

Voronin ejected on 89 min in Hertha's third straight loss. Their saying he might get a 3 game ban

The sad habit you have of trying to compare the these two very different players with completely different skill sets is really getting old. Arshavin's talent is much different than Tymo's talent, I'm not sure why that is so hard for you to register in your melon.

FWIW, I think one would have a much easier time making an argument for Tymo being the best d-mid in the world, than one would have arguing Arshavin as the best withdrawn forward in the world. For my money, AA is top three, no doubt, but if I put forth that argument in other forums on this site, I'll bet a lot of folks would disagree.

Even given your flight of fancy/fantasy - no lineup with Pavluchenko as its lone striker up front will ever be accused of being a "World Cup Contender."

Name one striker available to us who'd be better.

Different roles or not, Arshavin is a super talent. Tymoschuk is a warrior but he's not a phenom like AA is.

The original Ronaldo was a phenom. AA is a far cry from the original Ronaldo in his prime.

First, Dima should clarify what HE means by saying the word 'phenom'.

    Mozart
    Agassi
    Fischer
    Arshavin? :D

Ok not phenom on Ronaldo or Messi's level, but he's a great talent.

Only phenoms I can think of in FSU history was Yashin ( for a GK ). Bessonov was one of the most highly rated youngsters in the world.

I only heard tales of Yashin. But then again, did Yashin ever play against Ronaldo? or even Blokhin for that matter?

You have to put it into context. Using that logic we can say that Pele played against joke defenders. Football wasn't as evolved back then, but in the context of their era the likes of Pele, Puskas, Yashin, etc. were gods.

and Ronaldo is a far cry from Andrei Arshavin in his prime.

it's not just Dimuha acting a fool calling Arshavin a phenom, everyone should just shut up right now!!! bringing up a player who's nickname is el phenomeno, wow that's clever!!

HOw can you suggest Bessonov and not list Blokhin? Bessonov was a great talent (not a phenom). But if Yashin was a phenom, Blokhin truly was a phenom as well. He owns the USSR record book.

I'm not sure if Yashin was a phenom, depends on how he was rated as a youngster.

Bessonov was basically considered to be a world class talent ever since he played in the World Youth Championship, and wasn't he named player of the tournament ?

In Football terms phenoms are basically prodigies. Was Blokhin a prodigy ?

In the modern FSU football world I guess that Akinfeev, Sheva, and Dzagoev would be considered phenoms. In the FSU context.

    moving ON now

    http://www.thespoiler.co.uk/index.php/2009/04/09/russian-star-mocks-blackburn

lets discuss, whos better for bolton. pavlyuchenko, pogrebnyak, or puygrenier?
from what i have seen, puygrenier has been benched since about the 3rd week on the job, after numerous mistakes. roman has done virtually nothing for spurs (until this previous game), and pavel we have yet to see in the EPL, but from the looks of it Zenit are at least smart enough to get rid of him.

Wow that is a nice find. There is no way, the way he is playing now, he could come close to a top 4 english team. At least he didn't go to Blackburn. Hilarious though- trying to convince him to go to Blackburn. Zenit really did want him gone.
