25 team was not our best team, but it may be my favorite for overcoming obstacles and never backing down. This team won against the odds and the seeding and the injuries!
It may be too early, but i'm starting a 26 soccer thread.
    Who do we definitely lose?
Sophie Nguyen, Kam Simmonds, M. Jimenez, E. Colon, H. Gilchrist, G Riley.
Who can come back, Ockene, Rain, McGrew, O'Steen, Kai Price, L Dantas, Touray, Okeke, Suarez, Nourse, McGovern, Dudley, Brandon, McCormack, VanZanten, Ahmad, A Anderson, S Washington, Hudson and Junaid.
Freshmen to be , Bridget Mulipula, Ryder Ajeto, Audrey McKeen, and a young Jamaican NT player who is at Daytona STate

Who leaves early? Dudley for Pros, IMO O'Steen for a starting job, Suarez and VanZanten could opt for the pros. Addie Todd may move on for a starter's position.. I have no inside info, just extrapolating.
I suspect BP will hit the portal again. If Dudley comes back, we are odds on for the 6th title. If not, we should still be a contender.

    What say you?
BTW a few players I expect to take a big jump. McGrew, Touray, Suarez, Washington and Brandon.
Don't know if Rain will be 100%. If she is that is a very good piece. Don't know how good Price is, but she was highly rated.

Rain is able to come back? I wasn’t sure. I hope she does.

Okeke was a huge pick up in the portal. I’ll be curious who takes over for Gilchrist back there.

Rain has missed essentially 3 years with a massive multiple knee ligament sx. In most cases she will be granted add'l eligibility of at least one year.

I guess we'll be looking for another assitant coach. Just saw on the hot seat thread, associate HC Bobby Shuttleworth has been named the HC at Texas A&M.

Seems like Addie Todd is in the portal. Also, not sure exactly what it means, but the FSU soccer instagram and Florida's best player just started following each other. Maybe she doesn't want to play for Zimmerman and wants to join the Noles?

It's just based on Addie's social media. She thanked the program for the last 2.5 years on Instagram and all the players are commenting that they will miss her. Only one I've noticed so far that seems like they're transferring.

Makes sense. I used to check On3 for portal stuff, but can't stand Warchant anymore, so I figured you had some inside info. :) Thanks!

It wouldn't shock me to learn of other FSU portal entries, but I have no inside info.

I think Pensky expects a few folks to transfer out. People want to play. He also said 3/5 recruits are going pro instead. Depending on who else heads to the pros, could be a significant rebuild year.

Nourse, Anderson and Todd are in the portal. McKeen is signing with a NWSL club that should be announced soon.

I'm a somewhat casual viewer so please feel free to correct me, but in my opinion, BP is very good at giving his players play time. It looks like every single freshman (other than O'Steen) played several hundred minutes. And even O'steen played 2 full games. Every able player on the team saw significant minutes because of how strong the depth is. Confused why players would want to transfer when it seems like BP plays everyone all the time.

"BP plays everyone all the time".....Enasia Colon and Gianna Riley were the top players at their school and transferred in and played a combined 0 minutes in the final four. Ashlyn Anderson was one of the top recruits in the country and played a combined 5 minutes in the final four. That quote is simply not true.

Hence why I said feel free to correct me. But still, the final four is not a time to experiment/not field your strongest. Bit of an exception to regular season games and clearly it was a good plan. But season wise, I feel like a wider range of players receive significant minutes when compared to other top teams. Not saying its perfect, just more equitable than most.

Anderson never really found her footing this year, despite plenty of opportunity. 1 G and 0 A in about 350 minutes, virtually all of it up top. Good luck to her, a lot of potential.

These girls who didn't see a ton of playing time would get that at many other schools. That is very important to them understandably.
    Good luck to them.

Do you have evidence to support your statement about other top teams? Is it more Equitable than others? For me, it comes down to consistency. If coaches are honest with players and manage expectations, then that is equitable. If you bait and switch, then all bets are off. it is not as simple as how many minutes each player plays.

Some fans think that winning titles means as much to all the players as it does to them. Players who are really focused on a professional career after College, need to be mindful of the end goal. Winning does not automatically equal becoming a better professional prospect/player.

To clarify, I have no idea what these players were told or if they had reasonable expectations. Just opining that it is near impossible for people not directly connected to programs to know what is or is not equitable.

I have some insight on how FSU operates regarding recruiting (HS and portal) and transfers. I believe that other top programs operate in a similar fashion.

Basically how it works is that FSU tries to bring in as much talent as possible. The coaches know that this means that everyone is not likely to play as much as they want and that some players will opt to leave. This is not unexpected. It is by design. There are not enough roster spots for everyone to stay and for new talent to be recruited.

The coaches are generally up front with the players about future playing time but that is often not necessary as players aren't stupid and they can read a depth chart.

The Addie Todd case is instructive. Addie was the starter and lost her job to Kate Ockene. The rest is history. Addie could have stayed at FSU but she would have had an uphill climb to regain her job. Based on how Kate has played Addie was likely facing considerable time on the bench if she stayed in Tallahassee. Going to Texas Tech makes all the sense in the world since their keeper this year was a 5th year senior. Addie is now likely to start for the Red Raiders. Not only that but the team is pretty good (lost in the second round of the NCAAs on PKs to UNC). Texas Tech is not as good a program as FSU but they certainly aren't bad and she will be playing which is most important. The icing on the cake is that the Red Raiders have plenty of money (see NiJaree Canady) so she is likely well taken care of in that respect.

I used Addie as an example but there are plenty of other examples (Mia Justus, Erin Flurey, Maria Alagoa, etc.)

The bottom line is that players need to play to show their skills for the next level. Staying at FSU wouldn't have benefitted Addie's development long-term (especially if she wants a pro career) and I can guarantee that FSU understands that and supports her decision.

One other thing that I need to mention.

FSU does not lose players to other schools if those players are starters. In other words, any player that is getting a lot of playing time or expects to get a lot of playing time stays in Tallahassee or goes to the pros.

Therefore, Nourse and Anderson leaving can be spun as a positive because it may mean that they know that other players are staying and the depth chart will be challenging.

To be clear, this is just speculation. I haven't visited the facility since the season ended so I don't know for sure. It could also mean that those players just want to put their names in the portal just in case they need to leave. We'll see.

Thanks for that. Every player's journey is unique. I struggle to say one program is "better" for a player than another based on NCAA results. One could argue that a defender on a weaker team gets exposed to circumstances that one on a very strong one does not. It all depends on what the player wants. In my opinion, one of the best ways to improve is to face challenges and potential short term failures. On any good team, there should be real competition for places. If you were good enough to be a starter, then losing that role to another player can be motivation to win it back.

The one statement I disagree with slightly is

"The coaches are generally up front with the players about future playing time but that is often not necessary as players aren't stupid and they can read a depth chart."

Coaches should be upfront with players ALL the time. No one has a crystal ball to know what future PT will be. Injuries and loss of form happen all the time.

Canady is a million-dollar NIL athlete. I would be very surprised if a FSU back up warrants anything close to that. A softball pitcher can dominate the game. One soccer player, less so.

This is a topic I find very interesting, but I accept that this is probably not the place for it. My comments are general and should not be interpreted as a knock on FSU.

BP made a comment this week too that he changed his roster strategy a bit after Bugg went pro two weeks before preseason. Said he doesn’t want to be caught in that position again so is carrying a larger roster than previously, and that comes with the trade off that it’s harder to spread minutes down the bench.

He obviously greatly shortened the bench in the tournament. Jimenez, Colon, Dantas, Brandon, Anderson, Nourse all saw their minutes drop off. On the other hand, Touray and Ahmad seemed to move up as choices. I wasn’t surprised to see that from Touray but I’m intrigued Ahmad seemed to move above the rest to get time off the bench. Interested to see more of her moving forward.
