Babranski, We think that wasn't a penalty the same way you have said that this isn't a penalty (at the 29:33 mark of the video). Everyone can have their own opinion.
The RPI is good to categorize in a gross manner IMO, but not good at parsing out the finer details between teams closely ranked. Not that matters tremendously, but we beat UNC head to head twice and yet with 3 more losses they are 1 spot ahead of us. Sure hope the committee uses the RPI as a good starting point and then looks further to determine final seedings. Texas and TCU at 16-3-2 are at 15 and 16 while Penn State at 11-6-3 is 8.
there was contact but it was a very soft call. Soccer is still a physical sport. But I won't complain if FSU gets this type of penalty in the NCAA tournament.
When did I say I didn't think that was a penalty? I don't remember that but I'm willing to re-visit what I said if you have the receipts and point to my comments about it. I can't fathom why I would have said that it wasn't a penalty, perhaps beyond maybe going into the mind of an official who thought there was no initial contact and Deyna jumped over and went down on her own. That's clearly not what happened, and it's also clearly not what happened with Dahlien. if you want to bring up a decision I disagreed with this board about, you can go back a couple of years to the Elgin tackle on Onyi Echegini I think it was. Not sure if I'm getting the players right. She had driven into the 18 shoulder to shoulder with a UNC defender and, slightly off balance, smashed into Emerson Elgin who had slid infront of her and kicked the ball away with the outside of her boot. It was astonishing to me that anybody thought that was a penalty, and even today it grates at me that Hildreth and her color claimed Elgin made no play on the ball literally as the replay was showing Elgin did, in fact, play the ball. Whataboutism aside, I feel the line between "opinion" and "fantasy" is dangerously thin in the arguments being made here. Some of y'all would be well served to brush up on the actual rules instead of relying on your "opinions" of them. Ah yes babs, charming as ever. Drop on in to an opposing team's page to remind everyone of things you disagreed with from years ago. fwiw, I viewed the PK in this game as a harsh penalty and don't think that's a very controversial take, even if there was some contact. It was informative to switch over to the Gotham game immediately after and see the contact allowed in the box there... on attackers cutting across the frame of the goal inside the 18 no less.
Babranski, We don't have to get too far into this because it was years ago but here is your quote from Dec.18, 2022 in the UNC 2022 thread about the non call in the Championship game I referenced above: "as for the PK call itself, I'm chuckling at Unkel who made a clear motion with her leg when she waived the call away, a little mule kick where she's suggesting the defender didn't actually catch Robbins with the challenge but Robbins reacted with her leg like she had. It kind of fits with how Robbins leg and foot remain suspended in a weird way after the supposed contact, as if she's leaving it hanging there for as long as possible to invite more contact. Unkel is also close enough and pressing against the play (unlike Martinez, the official in 2022 Championship game) where she probably would have heard if there was any contact. You could see her make a little adjustment to her positioning right before. The official in the Pinto Ivory collision also was standing too far away and seem unconcerned about getting into a better position to watch for fouls. Not about to say I miss Unkel, but, ... Cynicism plays a role in if officials make PK decisions, and she probably decided that even if there was contact, Robbins played into it too much looking for a foul. I also note how Robbins doesn't seem to react at all and just gets up and keeps playing." I'm glad to see that you have changed your mind so we can move on. Thanks.
After correcting a programming error, I now have FSU and Duke getting #1 seeds and UNC getting a #2. The two other #1 seeds I have are Mississippi State and Southern California. It does look like the overall #1 for FSU.
Good comment, except that the RPI is dubious even in a gross manner. There are other rating systems that would be better. Your point, however, is correct for almost any rating system. And, that is how the Committee uses it: They use it to identify candidate teams and then supplement it with details from the teams' seasons to decide which of the candidates get the particular decision in question -- in this case, a #1 seed.
I see playing the SEC guaranteeing a spot in the playoff extends to soccer too. LOL. Tenn, Vandy, and LSU getting in.
Putting UNC and FSU in the same quad, and Duke on the same half of the bracket is an actually insane decision.
clear agenda against the ACC. They eliminate each other and then you only need one fluke by USC/Miss State or someone else in the title game for them to win it. But I'm really hoping Wake and Stanford or Notre Dame get out of those brackets.
well at least Arkansas was deserving of a 2 seed. Mississippi State didn't win the SEC tournament and still only could have Arkansas and USC as their road to the Championship game where as FSU could have UNC and Duke. Very unfair to me.
It does seem strange to have FSU and UNC in the same bracket. In fact, it seems strange for UNC to not be a #1 seed. However, from an FSU POV all they really care about is being a #1 seed and getting the home games. The Noles are quite comfortable playing anyone in Tallahassee.
This bracket is terrible! I do not agree with Miss State getting a number 1 seed! They lost to Wake Forrest and then they got smoked by South Carolina 3-0 and did not win the SEC. UNC should be a #1 seed.....the ACC may have to make their conference tourney larger...and Vandy getting in......give me a break!
This isn't the game you referenced. You referenced the 2020 FSU vs Santa Clara Championship Game and a challenge in that game.
The SEC getting in 10 teams is abhorrent. https://www.secsports.com/standings/soccer https://theacc.com/standings.aspx?path=wsoc
well, this sucks. For both. A bit surprised Dantas is out for the season but maybe that foot injury was worse than it looked. At least Lara Dantas is still just a freshman and has time but gutted for Iwai to go out like this. Hopefully FSU can win for her.
