For seeds, it's up to the Committee whether to consider this. They probably would. Even for at large selections, one of the considerations is player availability (although I never have seen a definition of what that means).

The big issue, for a sport like soccer, is whether it is done fairly. Do they know who has been injured, sick, away for a family emergency, away for youth national team duty, for every significant game in which a serious team has participated? I doubt it. In this particular case with Florida State, it is a pretty easy call.

the amount we involve the GK on every play on backpasses & extending...scares the crap out of me to be honest

FSU was efficient in front of goal today opposed to the last few games compared to their shot output.

Good to see Wrianna Hudson play well.

    When you beat a decent D1 P4 team 3-0 w/o 7 key players you probably shouldn't complain.
    So I won't.

Was a good win. I did see this game as one of the bigger bumps until we're at full strength again.

Does anyone know why Dudley has been held out the last two games of the U-20's? Heather is deservedly playing whole games and quite well.

I agree. But her distribution is fantastic so I understand them wanting to take advantage of that option.

I read somewhere that she's been in a concussion protocol since the Spain game.
Lots of talent on this team.
Gilchrist was comfortable going forward and laid off many nice passes.
Suarez is faster than I realized.
Riley didn't get a lot of time, but looked very comfortable on the ball and passing deftly.
Getting Jimenez back very soon I believe.

Jimenez was eliminated, so should be back for the next game.

Dantas has looked fantastic in Brazil's midfield. She is a gem.

Well it looks like Brazil lost to N Korea, so Lara Dantas should be back this week. Would not expect to see her play this Thursday, but do expect to see Jimenez play.
We'll find out tonight if the US continues!

I was hoping they’d come back this week. Jordyn Dudley had other plans.

Dudley needs more time. I don't object to Tordin starting, but bring Dudley in for someone to start the second half.

Tordin is an excellent player and times her runs phenomenally.

That said JD can play the 9 position better. She's big and strong enough to take long passes back to goal and distribute or turn and shoot.

She had several dangerous passes in this game. She also much more dangerous and intimidating on defense going after a player with the ball.

I see Suarez taking Taylor Huff's 8 position NEXT year. She's comfortable on the ball and is a good to very good passer, and she has good pace.

Riley just seemed out of sync with the other players, but obviously has the requisite skill.

Gilchrist is better and more confident this year IMO.

Can't wait to see if they are ready for Clemson on the 26th or if BP rests them.

BTW, that goal Dudley got looks very similar to a couple she has gotten at FSU.

I have no inside knowledge but it looks a lot like Dudley is on a minutes restriction. If that is the case Kevins is doing the right thing by saving Dudley for more important minutes at the end of the game.

I also like Tordin. I have not seen her before this tournament but in the last few games she has proven to be a clinical finisher. However, Dudley is the whole package. She has size, skill athleticism and speed. If fully healthy she needs to be starting and playing the bulk of the minutes at the 9. If this is not happening I assume it is because she has not been fully cleared for 90 minutes.

Suarez has had her moments in this tournament (she made a couple of really good passes against Germany) but she was more impactful in the handful of games we saw her at FSU before she left. This is likely due to the fact that at FSU she played more attacking mid which I think suits her better. For the U20 team she has played more as a playmaker because Sentnor is basically playing the attacking mid spot that Suarez will play at FSU. I have no problem with Kevins playing Sentnor there as I think she has had a really good tournament so far but I do think that the downside is that Suarez is forced to play a position that is not where she can play at her best. I think that it is an acceptable downside because Sentnor is playing well but it is a downside nonetheless.

Gilchrist is Gilchrist. Super steady and calm, always seems to be in the right place and has the speed to clean up mistakes in the back. Also a good distributor. She has just what you need in a CB.

Riley hasn't played a lot and she looks a bit rusty to me. I am not worried about her a bit long term. She is obviously an impactful player when she gets minutes.

FSU will be the best team in the nation when they return to full strength. Of course that doesn't mean that they will win another championship. Lots of stuff can happen between now and the College Cup and the best team doesn't always win but they seem to have the best roster.

    Quick thoughts on non-FSU players:

Really impressed by Savy King. She showed out last night with several clutch one on one defensive plays.
I mentioned Sentnor earlier but she has been really good. I like the way that she is fearless in attacking defenders always trying to put pressure on them.
For someone so young Bugg is super composed and poised in the back. She exerts a calming influence which is so valuable especially for a young team.
Thompson is obviously a talented player but it seems like the staff has not yet found out how to maximize her skill set. It may be that she doesn't fit seamlessly on this team but she doesn't look fully comfortable to me in her role.
Finally, I also like what Riley Jackson is doing for the team. I was not super familiar with her before this tournament but she has really opened my eyes.

Obviously last night's game was exhilarating. Hopefully it will give them some momentum as they try to close out the tournament. They came this far might as well win it right?

    Great insight.
I totally agree with your comments about Tordin being a "clinical finisher".
I also agree that JD is the total package and is a perfect 9.
Also agree about Suarez and have stated here or elsewhere that I expect her to replace Huff next year.

Here is some insight into Jordynn from U20 team mates.

Claire Hutton, Ally Lemos and Ally Sentnor all give some insight!

USA loses in semis today. Just the third place match on Saturday left. Hopefully fsu will have most of the team integrated back in by the wake forest game.

Not news on here I know but… my goodness Van Zanten is so effective advancing the ball and taking chances from the top of the box.

There were a couple of outstanding assists tonight. Jimenez was one and I think Simmonds was another. Boeckmann was another. I just rewatched the goals and Puerta also had a phenomenal assist to Huff inside the 6.
All of these assists were above average IMO.

Huff should definitely be in the early convo for Mac Hermann award.
I expect her numbers will trail off a little when the full team is back; afterall there is only one ball.

Same thoughts! and I love Puerta's game she's gonna be a force next year. Jimenez just is built like a fast TANK...looks like you can't knock her over and she's still fast and skilled..Hoping McGovern gets her first goal soon...

Man Simmonds was about to be the forgotten forward, but now that she's scoring, oh my! we have a WEALTH of goal scorers! even Ran Iwai was about bang home some goals tonight! the future is so bright!

Absolutely! If she's not top 5 draft material, there would have to be some incredible women players out there. But then, we'll probably eventually face them...

    OMG

Wow! Jordan Dudley given oxygen on field. Taken off by stretcher. Announcer said "concussion protocol".
I wish her a rapid and complete recovery. "Complete" the key word...
I think BP will give her plenty of recovery time. He's always proven good at protecting his players.

I've not been able to see any reporting on what happened beyond this ... was it collision that nobody is talking about or did she collapse after the fact?

I believe the announcer suggested that she collapsed a few minutes after a previous header attempt on goal.
