Per TDS Niyanya Touray a F from MD is the 52nd ranked prospect. She is literally the 1st 3 star as #51 is listed as a 4 star, so don't get hung up.
The quality of our depth will surely be tested against top 20 or 10 (whichever poll) UGA team. Missing 4 starters and 2 key subs will tell us how quality the depth at FSU is. Can't afford any injuries or red cards. Go Noles!
Challenging game coming up with a very short roster. Should give us an idea how the central defense can hold up without Gilchrist. They have been tested very little so far this season and I expect that to change tonight. I forgot Summer Denigan ended up at UGa. She looked very bright in the few games she had at FSU before getting injured. Looks like she managed a hat trick in their last game.
Wow - if that's college women's soccer these days, I'll take it! Entertaining end to end game between 2 heavyweights. Glad I got to see it tonight.
So it turns out we were missing 7 key players including 5 starters since Solai Washington was wearing a walking boot. No clue how long she'll be out. They even recruited a walk-on from the track team who played high school soccer. Of course she didn't play tonight, but she may in the upcoming games. 2 important things. We kept our non-losing streak alive and our streak of scoring at least one goal. Ashe scares me in CB. Too slow of foot and it almost got us beat tonight.
IMHO, we had 2 national team quality players with us tonight. Taylor Huff has size, toughness, ball skills, passing ability, high soccer IQ and a cannon on her leg. From a right or left back perspective, Mimi has it all. Decent size, short but strong, physicality, a good soccer IQ, good quickness and recovery speed, excellent ball skills, passing and finishing ability. I think they may break through as soon or sooner than Dudley. Dudley plays a position where there are at least a half dozen NT quality players, most of whom are very fast.
Unfortunately, Van Zanten plays for her mother's native country of Jamaica. Solai will be out for at least the rest of the non conference schedule. It could be longer but they do expect to have her back some time this season.
I didn't wanna say it, so I'm glad you did Tom...but without Gilchrist the backline is kinda suspect and Ashe is the scariest one, like you said her lack of speed was apparent, she's gonna unfortunately get blown by a lot this season it seems so far, plus that mental error she had that almost led to another goal
She's also particularly handsy. I only caught the first half, but she committed two, what I thought were particularly egregious, jersey grabs. Does she start when you guys are at full strength? I thought McAlpine wad guilty of coaching malpractice. FSU was down to 13 players, as you say having to call upon walk-ons to flesh out the squad. And he had the Bulldogs sit back. He should have been trying to run you guys, pressing everywhere. I mean, that was game ripe for the plucking. Knocking off the reigning champ, currently #1, at home. Now that would be a feather in your NCAA-Tournament cap.
Hard to know for sure who will start because only a few games were played before the World Cup. Obviously Gilchrist will start but the other starter will be either Ashe or Nguyen. As for McAlpine, here is what Prince Akeem Joffer at Tomahawk Nation had to say in his game article:
How big of a feather though? FSU was missing seven players (5 starters). Does the Tournament committee have a history of taking that into account or do they just look at results?
I have no inside info, but there may yet be some experimenting with the back 4. When everyone is back, Simmonds PT will go down b/c of how loaded we are. I'd consider Simmonds at CB next to Gilchrist. I'd try switching Boeckmann to the 3 and VanZanten to the 6. She would kill it there IMO, but I've yet to hear from BP asking my opinion. Waiting............
Not to my knowledge. It might be worth playing with b/c when our full team is here, she'll compete with Dudley, Hudson, Suarez, Washington, Riley, Puerta, Dantas and Jimenez. Just a thought!
The Committee doesn't explain its decisions. When it comes to seeds, it is something they might take into account. But it would be a stretch to not treat the game as a tie.
Of course it should be treated as a tie. That said, FSU missing 6 for the U20 WC should also be taken into account.

I remember the last time FSU struggled at the start of a season because of a rash of injuries. I know last years team is considered by many to be the best college team of all time, but the way *that* FSU team played a few years ago was still some of the greatest soccer I've ever watched. I didn't always like the way last years FSU team played as much, felt "gamy" ... left a sour taste in my mouth beyond the other obvious reasons after the UNC game... ... but the team from a few years ago that struggled to start the season... my gosh that was enjoyable soccer to watch, especially in the tournament.
Some years ago Portland was down to 13 field players and one reserve keeper for most of a season. For a couple games the bench had one field player and the reserve keeper played the field a bit I don’t recall any accommodation was given, nor should it have been. Rule 3.1 of the ncaa rule book says (FIFA law10 is the same) “The game shall be played by two teams of 11 players each, one of whom shall be the goalkeeper. A minimum of seven players are required to start and finish a game. “ Note that the rule doesn’t say the game is called if you have fewer that 7 players at times other than the start and finish.
The rules are very clear. I think Tom meant it should be taken into account for tournament seeding. Which seems reasonable. .... and a very very sensitive topic for FSU fans these days. To be clear, I'm not saying the UGa game should be counted as a win or anything, but more like a tie breaker if comparing a decision to a team with similar results that didn't tie a game with 9 players out (6 for WWC). Obviously, entirely contingent on how FSU looks once those starters return as well. But (hopefully) that full strength team will be the one competing in the tournament.
I get the feeling this won't matter a bit at the end of the year for FSU. My impression so far this season is that there is a lot of parity at the top and few, if any, teams will get through without multiple bad results.
sweepsit gets it. When seeding time comes for the NCAAT, the committee should at least know that we were down 6 U20 NTers, FWIW. I'm not asking it be considered a win! I'm not asking that UGA get any less credit. Some Committees do take into account such things these days!
