His comments and context on Giana Riley have me excited! I was a bit critical of her after the TCU exhibition for poor connecting of passes! Now I understand why! BTW this video is compliments of Chris Nee of TOS
I am old, so pray tell what "shross" means. Even when I Google it (I know what "Google" means), I get nothing.
Ah, yes, I have seen the term before and now get it. Amazing that Google appears not to have caught on yet. Google does have a definition for "shroff": an expert employed to separate counterfeit money or base coin from the genuine. "Shroff" would seem to be a relative of "shross."
1st game of season V Denver... Can't get play, but can follow the stats. K......Gagne CB...Armstrong LB...Dellarose RB...Elgin MF...Gaetino MF...Ullmark MF...Nagai F......Sember F......Fasse F......Thomas F..... Dahlien At 30 minutes in Migli for Gaetino 32 minutes goal by Dellarose. UNC dominating, 8 shots thru 32 minutes No shots yet from Denver. At 43 minutes 4 UNC subs in: Penny, Alverez, Means, & Dominguez ......Players out are: Thomas, Sember, Fasse, Dahlien At half time UNC 1, Denver 0 Shots UNC-9 / 2 on goal, Denver 0 Fouls UNC-4 / Denver 6
Well things changed in the second half. Only one change in that Thomas is back in the defense. Then at 51 minutes Dominguez is yellow carded on a foul in the box. First shot for Denver is the PK and evens the score. The other three UNC starters are put back in and take charge. But Denver if pumped up and gets two shots off plus two corners. Sember scores at 62 minutes with assist by Dahlien, but Denver gets 2 more shots (one on goal) plus to more corners....... Now as is typical with terrible bandwidth and lost the stats'. I'll see what happened tomorrow.
Watched it late last night after an appointment earlier. Just a couple of quick non-expert observations. Boeckmann looked real active and involved. Like BP mentioned in an interview, she's a kid who really wants it. She wants a career beyond her year here. Hudson is gonna be a stud. It may be at the end of this year or even into next year, but you shouldn't be as fast and quick as she is at that size! Jimenez impressed me!. Riley impressed me! Tons of talent. Mid to late October before this team rounds into shape. So this is what UNC had to deal with for many years. Waay more talent than there are spaces on the field.
Boeckmann would be an impressive find if she can take on a starting role at FSU after being a rotational player at Texas A&M. This is quiet the leap. Watching the game there is a lot to work on defensively but it should be fine by postseason time. It’s too bad Bugg went pro but eventually I think Ashe and Gilchrist will be a great CB combo. The offense will be hard to stop although Huff will have to carry for a bit while the U20 World Cup is going on. But more chances for Hudson, Simmonds etc. Todd looked very solid for her first game.
How did you all find Camille Ashe, 5th year transfer from the U of Portland? The Pilots asked their 5th year players to move on and gave them help finding good "homes" (which reveals something about the difference between U of P and FSU women's soccer). I see Ashe started and played most of the game. I'm interested in your observations and to see how they match with mine.
did I spot a backhanded negative comment in there about our FSU women’s soccer, in our thread…then you ask us a snarky question?
Sorry, I did not intend a negative comment. It simply was an observation about different approaches. U of Portland, apparently, has decided to go with bringing in a relatively set number of players each year and having them stay for only four years (except for players who red shirt due to injuries and for one or two underclasswomen coming through the transport portal). FSU currently appears to have a different approach -- more like, get the best roster you can whether through the transfer portal including fifth year players or otherwise. These different approaches are interesting to me, but I do not prefer one over the other. They especially are interesting because they may relate to the NCAA "new world" we seem to entering into. I actually was sincerely interested in what FSU fans who saw the game think of Ashe. (I posted my thoughts about her earlier here, when I saw she would be playing for FSU this year. My comment then was something along the line of, "You at first may think she is a little slow but she really isn't.") I liked her as a player when she played for U of P and am wondering how she will do in the FSU world. PS - I do a good deal of work for coaches (as a volunteer), particularly helping with scheduling in relation to their NCAA Tournament seed and at large selection aspirations, and I want them to feel able to trust my work, so I try to make a point of not criticizing coaches and how they approach their work and I try not to criticize schools. So if you see something as possibly being critical, you can be pretty safe in assuming that is not what I intended.
Only that whereas U of P was having its fifth-year players move along, FSU was being more flexible. And, it suggests U of P thought FSU would be a good destination for Ashe, i.e., she would have a good experience there, which I take as a compliment to FSU.
It's only been 2 games (1 exhibition and 1 game), so it's too early to draw lasting conclusions. That said, She has good size and ball skills. She is not however very quick, which is a little concerning with quicker attackers. She appears to have good long speed, but not short area quickness.
That's a good assessment, Tom. Heather makes the increasingly rare passing error, but her whole field coverage and speed is certainly above Camille. But Heather's in her 3rd year as a starter and BP made clear from early on that she's got incredible soccer maturity. I am worried about her absence for a month...
A double digit scoreline with most of the starters still out there is probably going to rankle some folks, but it's something I wished UNC had done more often in the early games of seasons. If you can get your top team clicking and feeling confident about themselves early it goes a long way for the season.
19 players played. Gilchrist, VanZanten, Dudley and Riley are all starters who did not start. Minutes were well distributed with 19 players seeing very good minutes.
I had the pleasure of seeing another rare “Olimpico goal” at the Plex this time by Taylor Huff. This is a goal directly off of a corner kick. The previous one was by Jenna Nighswonger. TAYLOR HUFF JUST SCORED FROM THE PARKING LOT‼️‼️🔥🍢#OneTribe pic.twitter.com/owN5PBXOpT— FSU Soccer (@FSUSoccer) August 18, 2024
Put another way… everyone available saw at least 30 mins except Norshie and a third goalkeeper. Dont know if Norshie has a knock or what.
