Babranski, keep in mind that there are some Florida State fans who can see things that are beyond the grasp of the rest of us .
Hmm yes. Strangely it reminds me a little of NC State fans. I say strangely because FSU is plainly a powerhouse that stands above UNC at the moment. They have enjoyed significantly more success than UNC and certainly have no need to compare themselves to the Tar Heels, presently or "early years". I did wonder what was meant by the "early years" as the FSU program only began roughly 20 years *after* the UNC one did, but I suppose that is academic now. in the last, what, 25 years? ... and especially of late, FSU's record speaks for itself, the recruiting speaks for itself, the consistent quality of play speaks for itself ... and all that with the feather in the cap of two different coaches taking their team to titles. The inferiority complex still displayed by some fans is bizarrely out of place. I wonder if it will remain until they have surpassed UNC in championships.
The reporting was that Jenna was held out due to load management therefore it wasn't injury or performance related.
I just took the original comment to refer to carrying a large roster. Not sure why that warrants all this commentary…
Just got an email from the FSU ticket office that season tickets are now available! Unfortunately, the schedule has yet to be posted... If I lived close to Tallahassee, I might take the leap of faith, but I'm sure that it'll be a good home schedule.
Here's what I have, without yet having seen their schedule to be sure these are correct. @ means away; v means home. 8/15 @ South Florida 8/18 v N Florida 8/22 v South Carolina 8/29 v Georgia 9/1 v Villanova 9/8 @ Florida 9/19 v Syracuse 9/22 @SMU 9/27 v Clemson 10/3 @ Wake Forest 10/6 @ Virginia Tech 10/12 @ Boston College 10/17 v Virginia 10/20 v Pittsburgh 10/25 v North Carolina 10/31 @ Miami FL That is 16 games, which is a little low in number although within the range of reasonable possibility. There is a pretty big gap between the end of non-conference games and the beginning of conference play. It is possible they still are looking for one more game to put in that gap.
Less than a month before the season begins and still no FSU women's soccer schedule. It is unthinkable that FSU would have this happen for football. I guess we're still a ways off from equal treatment of women in sports at FSU. Simply another version of the training facility fiasco a couple of years ago in the March Madness basketball tournaments.
cpt, This is an outlier with Brian. He has been a remarkable breath of fresh air to FSU fans when it comes to being open to fans interacting with players and allowing info about recruits to come out. After games at home especially, he allows players (post stretching) to come up to a fan area and interact. He interacts. They have fan days and autograph days etc. Mark was a great coach, whom I still love for what he did to build a budding dynasty at FSU. That said, he was very secretive about any info getting out. He didn't encourage a lot of fan interaction and we never knew his full slate of recruits until the fall. I was always anxious to see who we had that TDS did not have listed. Usually 1 or more internationals and even an occasional domestic recruit TDS wasn't aware of. So like I say, it seems to be an outlier with the schedule. FWIW, I do know he had a hard time getting teams to come to Tally early in the season last year. Our record after the NCAAT was 22-0-1. That means we had a 15 game regular season schedule.
If I seemed critical of Brian, I did not mean to. It is just that this never would be allowed to happen with football. I put the problem on the athletic department as a whole. Your point about getting teams to come to Tally early in the season is a good one, especially since these days a lot of scheduling is home-away series. The idea of playing there in the really hot weather, plus travel budget limitations, plus knowing you almost certainly will get a loss, must make it hard to attract good opponents. This especially is true for a potential opponent if you are looking at a Thursday game, when they will end up exhausted and have to recover to play a game two days later somewhere else. One of my big concerns about the recent realignment is how it will affect non-conference scheduling. With virtually all of the big teams now having more in-conference travel, some very long distance, it may greatly diminish travel for non-conference play. Add that to what already makes FSU not a good non-conference destination and it could be creating problems. On the other hand, I advise coaches that if you want to play a strong opponent, you might want to consider playing a really strong one. If you lose, it probably won't hurt you much because of what it will do for your strength of schedule. And if you win, you have done yourself a world of good when it comes to NCAA Tournament selections.
Your comments re: Brian were not taken badly. I realized you were talking about the athl dept as a whole and expectations of men's programs versus women's programs. FYI FSU baseball recently posted their fall schedule. You are appreciated as a poster. You have given me more info re: FSU schedule than anyone. I strongly anticipate a schedule being dropped this week.
I'm inclined to agree that Brian was probably not the issue here. I think most coaches would want to know their schedule sooner rather than later, for preparation purposes like scouting. The season is so short and condensed, it can cause a lot of pain if it they wait to long to make the necessary arrangements. Flights and hotels can get more expensive... as one of many examples not even related to the sport. I suspect Brian is as frustrated at the delay as the fans are. as an example on the UNC side, the Tar Heels have an early season trip out to play a couple of games in the Rocky Mountains. Hopefully they worked that trip out sooner rather than later, because that could have created a whole host of problems if they find out about it in July, a month before they're supposed to go. I can not imagine the amount of problems it would create if they waited until the end of July to organize that trip for a pair of games mid August.

I really love that pro players like Nesbeth and Olsson (all the way from Sweden) came back. Even players who transferred (Alagoa and Taitano) were welcomed back. It says a lot about the program that those players wanted to come back to celebrate with their former teammates and that they were welcomed back with open arms.
