I’d be interested to see their ranking in the transfer portal the past few years. Player-for-player it’s easier to predict the level of success for current NCAA players than incoming Freshman. My impression is that FSU has been a big winner in the portal.
The portal has changed the entire landscape of college athletics. I don't particularly like it, but it's here now. I agree Fsu has utilized the transfer portal well.
FSU soccer recruit Jaida McGrew has signed with USL club the Charlotte Ascent.I believe that she will still be able to retain her college eligibility. https://www.carolinaascent.com/news...-players-in-jaida-mcgrew-and-isabella-franco/
ashlyn_anderson08 I would like to announce my verbal commitment to play D1 soccer at Florida State University!! I thank my mom, Jamie Anderson, and my dad, Pedro Anderson, along with my coach, Kenrick Ramirez, for helping me achieve this. I have been blessed with the opportunity to play for FSU and am so excited for what’s to come in the future! #gonoles!!❤️ 4h Our first 2026 commitment. She is #13 on TDS
Don't know if the USL team she signed with is Pro or Amateur. This from Wikipedia United States soccer league system Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org › wiki › United_States_soccer_l... The United States soccer league system is a series of professional and amateur soccer leagues based, in whole or in part, in the United States.
Sure seems like she's skipping college. Article says 2024 season (“I’m so excited to join Carolina Ascent FC for the inaugural USL Super League season,” -- which starts this fall / the same time as college season...) FSU does not appear to be in the cards, right?
Jaida is a 2025 recruit. My understanding is that she will play for the Ascent in 2024 and join FSU in the fall of 2025.
The USL W league is a summer league and it doesn't impact the NCAA. The NC Courage have a "U23" team that has been competing and regularly making deep pushes in the playoffs in the past few years, as they are again this year. The team is usually stacked with players from UNC, NC State, Duke, WF, and some former players of those teams. The Ascent played the Courage twice this year and I went to the home game around here. I was looking out for the local players but I do remember a forward from the Ascent team that wrecked havoc on the edges. Reading how highly rated Jaida was, I suspect it was her. Reading about her, she's from Charlotte, where the Ascent are based. I don't see any reason to expect she'll miss the NCAA season.
On a different track, I was exploring TopDrawer Soccer to see if they had posted a 2024 preseason poll. Nope. So I ended up looking at the conference standings which also were still 2023 final rankings. Imagine my surprise to see that they used the new ACC teams to compile 2023 rankings. Stanford was #1 ahead of FSU in the ACC 2023 rankings. I believe that they are a west coast publication, but that kind of killed my incentive to sign up for the publication.
Small differences in ranking positions, even at the top of the rankings, are relatively meaningless. So I would not count that against TDS. On the other hand, I do not vouch for TDS. One thing, however, that I think traditional ACC fans should check themselves for is that Stanford and Cal may be a little better than you might be expecting. I think that especially may be the case for Cal. It would be an interesting experiment for some of you all to post now where you think Cal will end up in the conference standings and then check at the end of the season to see where they actually end up. (Before the season begins, I will do my own "predicted" conference standings and will post those.
Echegini signed with PSG today. it also looks the roster got updated although not yet complete with Puerta and Washington missing. Goalkeeper Madeline Smith was added to the roster, she last played for Maryland it seems. Never heard of her but she appears to have 1 more year left as a grad student.
It's not the biggest deal, but I do think it speaks to the quality of some of TDS's content... note this isn't a ranking nor for 2024. They just currently have published on their website ACC conference tables from 2023 with Stanford inexplicably at the top. https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer/college-soccer-conference-standings/women
That's exactly the point that I was trying to make. Didn't we decisively win the National Championship in 2023 over Stanford?
Looking at all the standings, it appears that teams are ordered by their conference finish, not overall. TDS may just be using the total number of in-conference "points" (3 for a win, 1 for a tie) to determine where a team falls in the conference order - even with teams that weren't in that conference last year. Stanford played 11 PAC-12 games (8 conference wins and 3 ties: 24+3=27). FSU had 8 wins and a tie (24+1=25).
Us with 25 players and UNC struggling to get enough players. This will be a real paradigm shift for both UNC and FSU!!!
You mean BP?!#$$ So far, I am so much more happy with BP than I had ever imagined! When is he going to release the schedule???? If that's my biggest complaint, we're well off. Under Mark, we had to wait until the season almost started to get the full roster and learn what recruits we weren't aware of. (Usu internationals).
Enlighten me how that makes you recall Anson's "early years" because I'm struggling to see a correlation there.
