Kaitlyn Zipay not on the 2024 roster. I'm surprised. I didn't expect her to leave. Yes. Wrianna is taller than 6'2.
Dang Tally. I had not caught that! That's too bad b/c when healthy, like towards the end of last season, she showed some very promising signs of becoming a stud. The numbers are alarming in a bad way. We have 20 on roster. We expect Peyton McGovern and Solai Washington to come in this summer or fall. That will make 22, but we have 2 (Iwai and Brown) who may not still be around. WE definitely need a couple more transfers IMO. Have you heard anything? Zipay was in the video of the team at the bball game. What gives?
that's pretty far away from Pensky's desired numbers but honestly, it just might not be a possible outcome to have 25+ players on the roster with the transfer portal. hopefully some good players transfer to FSU during the spring because with the U20 world cup, it looks dicey.
Chris Nee at 247 suggests that BP's ideal roster is 22-24. If Brown and Iwai move on, we're back to 20, including Peyton and Solai. The problem is we don't know if and when Claire will be back. She may not make it back this fall. Definitely need 2 or 3 post spring transfers IMO. Nee said that Zip graduated and decided to move on! Sad for us. Good luck to her! He also said and assistant is expected to be named this coming Monday!
Olivia Garcia will forego her last two years of eligibility and go pro. This is interesting on a lot of levels but this is another departure that I didn't expect.
BP may need to resort to taking a few girls in for numbers if he doesn’t have additional transfers already in the pipeline. Starting to get into danger territory with roster size.
No disrespect, but I don't think she will make a pro team. BP is going to need 4 to 6 more transfers if Brown and Iwai go pro. He could probably get away with 3, but I still question whether or not Claire will be game ready this fall.
Don't forget that the USL is starting in August. There are going to be a lot more spots for players than we are used to with a whole new league starting. We will see what happens with the transfers. I don't believe that FSU is done yet.
Also, considering the timing of this announcement, I don't think that Olivia would have made this move unless she either had a good offer already or she had a well founded belief that she would get one. If she just wanted to leave FSU for more playing time she could have just transferred like Maria did.
It may be wishful thinking, but in my mind FSU becomes all the more attractive destination with the roster numbers. We will certainly be among the most desirable destinations. Echegini's success should resonate with some. How good they are remains to be seen!
An 18-year pro and former member of the USMNT is officially a part of the Seminole staffWelcome Jonathan Bornstein to Tallahassee🍢🔗https://t.co/qKYvRxpxYd#OneTribe pic.twitter.com/djv1OkL3O1— FSU Soccer (@FSUSoccer) February 5, 2024 I'm sure that Bornstein will do a good job but I still think that FSU could have found a qualified woman who could have done a good job as well. So I'm a bit disappointed.
As far as Olivia Garcia, this is where she got a job...Denmark! https://www.reddit.com/r/fsusports/...ccer_forward_olivia_garcia_forgoes/?rdt=56307
really good club for her and they gave her the number 10 and have quiet a few Americans on their team. I think I can understand her leaving now.
FSU has a game with Gotham at IMG today at noon. Anyone with information on how it went and where the newcomers played would be much appreciated. Two more games/exhibitions scheduled with pro teams. Feb 18th vs KC Current at IMG, 1:30p Mar 2nd at Orlando Pride, 5p I'm planning to make the March 2nd game if anyone else is, would love to put a face to a username.
I wasn't there, but I'm gonna guess Gotham was playing new draftees and bench players. Why risk your stars against a college team. Now that said, that is still a huge win for FSU IMO.
Copied this response on Gotham Reddit thread. MisterGoog OP • 15h ago im obviously cheesin but I do genuinely think that Dudley is the third best teenage attacker rn and i think Huff is better than Missimo. I would also assume that Gotham rotated like crazy, and florida state probably did too but to a lesser extent. I would absolutely love to see footage of Gotham unable to score vs Heather Gilchrist- and i also think this result is funnier because they just lost Echegini Flynn Nesbeth Roque Olsson a month ago. Im also begging the Dash to draft Van Zanten when it becomes time
I wasn't there either and I haven't seen a box score (although I am going to do my best to get my hands on one) but we can make a couple of observations. 1. I'm not sure who Gotham suited up but Chris Henderson publishes the current rosters of all the NWSL teams. Here is Gotham's roster according to Chris: GOALKEEPERS Michelle Betos GK Georgia Meagan McClelland GK NRI Rutgers Cassie Miller GK Florida State Abby Smith GK Texas DEFENDERS Maycee Bell D (CB) DRAFTEE North Carolina Bruninha D (RB, LB) INTL None Tierna Davidson D (CB) Stanford Kristen Edmonds D (CB, RB, LB) Rutgers Mandy Freeman D (CB, RB) USC Sam Hiatt D (CB) Stanford Maitane Lopez D (CB), MF (DMC) INTL None Jenna Nighswonger D (LB), MF (MC) Florida State Kelley O’Hara D (RB, LB), F (RF) Stanford Taryn Torres MF (DMC, MC) Virginia MIDFIELDERS Sinead Farrelly MF (MC) Virginia Rose Lavelle MF (MC), F (WG) Wisconsin Nealy Martin MF (DMC, MC) Alabama Yazmeen Ryan F (WG), MF (MC) TCU Delanie Sheehan MF (MC) UCLA Emily Sonnett MF (DMC), D (CB) Virginia McCall Zerboni MF (MC, DMC) UCLA FORWARDS Crystal Dunn F (WG), MF (MC), D (LB) North Carolina Esther Gonzalez F (CF), MF (MC) INTL None Midge Purce F (WG) Harvard Katie Stengel F (CF) Wake Forest Ella Stevens F (CF, WG), MF (MC) Duke Lynn Williams F (WG, CF) Pepperdine LOAN OUT Taylor Smith F (WG), D (RB) UCLA Even if their top players didn't play I don't see any scrubs on this roster. Even if FSU played the worst players on this roster they just beat a team that would be one of the best at the college level. In other words, this is a really impressive performance any way you slice it. 2. FSU only gave up 2 goals. This is only one game but it really makes me a lot less nervous about Addie in goal if they only conceded two goals to a roster like Gotham has even if their best players didn't play. 3. FSU didn't have its full roster either. Solai and Peyton aren't with the team yet and there could be more portal additions. I also need to find out if Claire played. 4. It's only one game and we didn't see it nor do we have a box score yet but this is very encouraging for next year.
Again, I don't have the box score but take this for what it's worth: I saw a pic from someone who was there and it def wasn't no B team! Nighswonger, Esther, Purce, Dunn, Sonnet, Lavelle, and Williams……ect..Looks like FSU has since deleted the scoreline tweet, though...— Aym (@Aymnumber4) February 11, 2024
I saw pictures on Facebook and saw Sonnet for sure. Apparently FSU twitter put out some info and Gotham told us to take it down. We did. My previous post above was taken from Gotham's reddit feed. That person was definitely impressed with Dudley and Van Zanten.
it's not the best look for Gotham but it's a friendly in the preseason and they are defending champions, I don't quiet get the need to delete it.
It is the same reason that preseason exhibition games should not have scores reported. Scrimmages and exhibitions games are meant to get a lot of players time on the pitch, try different things out. If the scores are going to be reported, and people do not understand the context they drawn conclusions that may not be reality. It is a bad look for Gotham to lose to a college team. But, was Gotham experimenting with a different system. Were they playing players in new positions. We have no idea if we were not able to observe it. And, if one side is going to post the results to gloat about it, why bother playing them at all. It was silly of FSU to post it, and I don't blame Gotham one bit for asking them to remove it.
