I had to sig it--take it as a compendium of dumbest posts from internet forae of all kinds. Fundies say the darnedest things. My favorite so far won the "Occam's Razor Disagrees" award:
Best award name ever? I love the site. It's horrible, it's sad, I can't stop laughing at the people quoted on it though.
Does this thread really belong here? Isn't this board supposed to treat religion more-or-less respectfully? I'm not questioning its validity, merely its placement.
I'm respectful towards religion--my guess is that most Christians would find the comments on the site funny as well--this is about fundamentalism, not Christianity.
Didn't see it listed, but a great quote from Falwell: "His message of peace and reconciliation under almost all circumstances is simply incompatible with Christian teachings as I interpret them. This 'turn the other cheek' business is all well and good but it's not what Jesus fought and died for. What we need to do is take the battle to the Muslim heathens and do unto them before they do unto us."
Holy crap, how did I miss this? Well, I know how I'll be spending this evening. That site is blocked by my company's firewall.
As I look at it, the site seems more disrespectful of stupidity than it does religion. I mean, everyone on the planet has a right to being somewhat stupid about some things, but many of those folks are abusing that privilege.
Some of the posts on that site--including the first one, about the gay kid who kills himself--appear to be hoaxes or pranks.
I agree, some do appear to be hoaxes. But they all have links to the original post, whatever site they appeared on. The one about the kid who committed suicide also has a link to the follow-up thread about his suicide. I'm inclined to believe that particular story is real.
I'm tempted to comb some of the threads on this board for submissions. I'm sure there are plenty real ones around here.
I'm sorry, I believe that saving ones virginity for marriage is fine and good, and if you want to take it slow, that is your prerogative. However, there is no chance in hell of you getting getting married to a guy when you have never even held his hand...ok, let me change that. There is a slim chance of you getting married, but there is no chance it will last. Might want to start investing in cat food now sweetheart.
"I appreciate your recommendation, and it is intriguing, but as a pro-lifer, I cannot support an organization that is opposed to the death penalty." ^^^ This has to be my favorite quote on the site.
Classic website. "Yes, but this is ultimately for the survival of the Hebrew people. Also, when God commands the killing of children, it is actually an act of mercy, since killing them before the age of accountability saves from judgement (they would have no chance of repentence in evil societies)." You're right, The Man With No Name. Unicorns and Dragons do not exist. Not now! However, they are definitely mentioned in God's Word therefore proving that at one time they were alive and well here on the earth. Pot, Kettle, Black: "There must be a Talking Points manual somewhere for atheists. They repeat the same dreary "arguments" over and over with only nominal rewording." "We wasted 14 months getting to Iraq, while Saddam bloated himself and his UN associates with more “Oil for Food” money, and while he [Saddam] shipped his WMD out of the country so the Dems and the MSM would have some ammo for their propaganda campaign to aid the terrorists"
It's really frightening that there are people who think there is something "impure" about having been intimate--physically or otherwise--with a person prior to marriage. You have to have a deep loathing of our very humanity to think that way.
The reason I'm convinced that this item is a hoax is that the original story derives from a message board. The original poster--the boy's supposed mom--wrote only nine posts, all of which involve her son's homosexuality and all of which were written in the course of two weeks. From coming out to suicide, two weeks. Doesn't pass my smell test.
