Re: Letter to ESPN Talk about bad coverage, anyone see US-Eygpt on FSC today? What's with not updating the other result?? I spent the whole game wondering why Sigi seemed to be ignoring goal difference and possible second round matchups. The commentator never even discussed the 2nd round matchup possibilties, or winning the group, only "The US will advance with a tie""
Re: ESPN - Good or Bad for Soccer I watched the US match on FSC. He did discuss the group standings a little bit early on in the broadcast and mentioned that the score of the Argentina - Germany match would be given when they found out the score. I was disappointed by the lack of discussion of the matchups for the next round but it may have been too complicated for the match broadcaster to deal with due to the possibility of teams finishing in 3rd and advancing as well as the other results that would still affect the US.
It’s not FSC fault, I missed this game so i'm assuming that it was not FSC announcers but a FIFA guy. Thread title should be FIFA's coverage
They showed the Germany/Argentina game right after the US/Egypt game. About a month ago on the last day of the EPL season, someone started a thread about how pissed they were at FSC because during the game they showed (Fulham/Norwich?) the announcer gave away the results of the other relegation games. So I guess they'll never be able to please 100% of their viewers.
Did the result of the other games impact Fulham/Norwich?? Because Ger-Arg sure impacted the US and as a US fan I wanted to know what was going on,and if the US would win the group, and who they might they play.See WC 2002 and US-Pol & SK- Port, if ESPN had not updated us on the other game during US- Pol., it would have been pretty bad, would it not???
When did they show the Germany/Argentina match? The match they aired after the USA/Egypt match was Brazil/S. Korea.
I don't believe they showed Germany - Argentina on Fox Soccer Channel. apl13: What are you talking about? I do know they showed it LIVE on Galavision, but not sure about FSC. Also, another bizzare thing about Brasil - South Korea match is that they started the coverage with players/flags of Nigeria and Switzerland coming out. They even showed national anthems of both nations. Then they went to a commercial and strangely started with the Brasil - South Korea kickoff after coming back from the commercial. What was that all about? Another thing I didn't like about this coverage was, they only had raw video feeds from FIFA, and did'nt bother showing a running clock and score. The match on Galavision had these basic widgets as you would expect them. I would think by now, the running clock and score must be a basic widget which could be programmed by something as simple as a macro. Is FSC being so cheap that they're cutting costs for a simple match-clock?
Yeah, I don't get that at all either. I've watched a few of the U-20 matches, and the only time they show the clock/score is every 10 minutes on that white bar on the bottom of the screen. Other channels around the world put their own graphics up, and FSC has their own score/time graphic for MLS and other leagues, so why aren't they doing it for U-20?
That's coming from the raw FIFA feed. Maybe they laid off the guy in charge of this graphics to cut costs?
I don't know if any of you saw the Brazil-Mexico match from the Confed cup today but it was the same type of raw feed but FSC put in their own scoreboard and clock as they do for MLS and other matches. It seems that they just didn't devote the resources to do it for the u-20's which is unfortunate because I hate sitting there with the US up by 1 and just dying to know when the match will end.
Yeah, I know. They have the same white bar for Champions League, and I remember seeing it on "in house" feeds of the Women's World Cup.
I didn't have any problem with the lack of the score/time graphic. It's nice to be able to see what's going on in the upper left part of the screen.
It seemed like they had the crowd noise on mute. Bseisdes the commentary, I only heard the whistle, The picture was really nice though. That's the price you pay for being low budget I guess lol =(
Agreed. I'd love it if FSC went to that format for all their games and also removed useless graphics like the logos that remind me I'm watching a league highlight show (duh). Nothing like an almost full (damn that channel logo) screen of football. Instead we often have a screen with football competing for space with channel logos (somtimes 2 or 3 on ESPN2 which can have the ESPN logo in the upper right from the int'l feed, the ESPN2 logo on the ticker, and the ESPN logo in the scoreboard), "live" or date for delayed broadcast, the overly large scoreboard with extra graphics that just waste space, and of course sponsors ads. Then you add a ticker, animated ads that cover the bottom of the scree, info on future broadcasts for that channel to that. Ugly.
there weren't big crowds at all in games not involving the germans or the dutch. that could contribute to why you didn't hear much.
while i agree with you that screen real estate is important i would love to see FSC integrate their upper right corner logo with a scoreboard/timer. it would look MUCH better than their amateurish white block. I will make up some mock ups this evening. and post 'em somewhere in this forum.
Which is what? What goes on "up there"? Every league in the world uses that space for time/scores - and every cameraman knows not to let the ball go into that area. Besides, if well done, the graphics are small enough not to interfere.
