Staying at Reading: Reading announce they have opted to extend the contract of 19 y/o Andrija Novakovich at least another year: https://t.co/3rJu5pLTmw— Nats Abroad (@Nats_Abroad) May 10, 2016
The pertinent line from the club link above: Under-21 players Zak Jules goalkeeper George Legg have also been offered new deals, while a clause in the contract of Andrija Novakovich was taken up earlier this season, ensuring the Wisconsin-born striker will be at Reading next season. Next season's senior squad as it stands... #readingfc pic.twitter.com/7FvgzKmvBD— Talk Reading (@TalkReading) May 11, 2016 Just one man's opinion but likely not that far off. They've released two strikers and two more are due to return to their parent clubs. There's been talk of one or both staying either another year or permamently.
Did he play a lot this year? I'm still a bit bitter about Reading not letting him go to New Zealand last summer
He didn't come anywhere close to first team minutes despite McDermott saying so at the beginning of the summer and thus keeping him out of NZ. They went on spending spree over the summer and bought 3 center forwards in Rakels, 23, Orlando Sa, 27 and Kermorgant, 34 while also loaning in Mateo Vydra, 23 from Watford.
Last season he showed promise doing really well with the U-18s and got promoted to the U-21s early where he did well. This season he was more so-so with the U-21s and went out on loan to a non-league side (the best non-league team last season though), where he didn't make much of an impact. Probably a little disappointing season for Novakovich, as at the start of the season it looked like he might've got some games with the 1st team, but it has to be seen in the context though that the kid only turned 19 at the start of the season. He's still a decent prospect for Reading and we have a good record of bringing youth players through the ranks and next season, depending on activity in the transfer/loan market, it looks like there might be plenty of opportunities for young players to get time with the first team.
Not with the first team today in their first preseason game. Jaap Stam is now the Reading coach....I was not aware of that.
