Ask Ben : a) Which 3 U17s does he think will be on the USMNT in 6-8 years b) Why hasn't he sent any desperate women my way?
what, you want me to have answers? This is no place for answers. This is a discussion board. I bumped the thread for anyone interested, I just included my personal commentary - Which is yawn. I think it's a boring show and I don't have any answers as to how to make it better, but why should I? I'm not the programing manager and I'm not paid to make this show any more entertaining. Let the producer and the talent figure it out. That is their job. My "job" in the grand scheme of things is to listen and if they don't make a product I feel like consuming, then I find a different one or don't listen at all. Oh and I never said to bring back Dino. I don't like Dino's 1st show, I didn't care for Dino when he was on the show and Dino doesn't make a product that I care for. That said, some do see Dino as a loss, but he isn't my cup o tea. My issues with the show go farther than topics of discussion and blend into who is discussing them, who is influencing that discussion and who the discussees are being paid by. I would go out on a limb and suggest that Fluffy should be replaced. Now that is an unpopular opinion that I won't go into great detail with, but I would say that that is one of the three things I would change if I could. But there are other changes before removing Fluffy.
Talk a bit more about La Liga? More analysis of teams around the MLS? Conor Casey on the show? Talk about up and coming young Colorado players?
Rodrigo's point of view seems to be the traditional tie and maybe win on the road but just don't loose approach. I can't say that I can really disagree with it. Especially keeping in mind that the playoff race is looking tight. A win would be great but just a single point could make a big difference.
Certainly it could make a big difference, but it's against a devastated LA team - worst in the league. If it was against Chivas or New England, I agree. But that's a game you have to take IMO. If that's the reason we lost (and I don't think it is) then it's fine to risk the point.
Pragmatic football. Results oriented soccer will only get the MLS so far though, and it won't win over the Hispanic demographic, for sure. And not every successful team in MLS practices such pragmatic football. Look at DC United or Chivas, arguably the two teams playing the best soccer right now, and both of them are almost always playing for the attack rather than the counter, both at home and on the road. I agree with you, Rodrigo is a bonehead. Besides, I think the defining play of that game was Ballouchy's miss on his breakaway in the first half. He scores there, and a depressed LA side crumbles under the weight of being behind yet again. Instead, he misses, LA scores to start the 2nd half, gets some confidence, and goes on to win. Scoring first meant everything in the LA game.
Did he offer another solution? The team was without Pablo. The team could have tried to go defensive, but that would mean the back four holding the fort. Where was the defense going to come from in midfield? Mehdi, Kirovski? We'd get run over. Add to that, that Mehdi, for all his promising signs of offensive talent, doesn't have much of a possession game to go along with his lack of defensive grit. Kirovski has some possession skill, but isn't mobile enough to keep it up and he needs the other midfielder to hold possession as well. I'm not sure Clavijo had another option than to try to have the team push.
That was my biggest disagreement with him last night. Pablo would have controlled the midfield and settled things down.
I could be wrong here, but my feeling is that Arsenal, Juve, Real Madrid, 'Gers, DC, all of the "really big and SUCCESSFUL" clubs don't get that way by always playing to not lose when on the road. I'm sure there are situations when they don't need to go balls to the wall for a victory (already clinched the group and have key injuries), but that seems to be the exception and not the rule. OK, maybe DC isn't one of the "really big and SUCCESSFUL" clubs yet, but they are the cream of our league.
