Inspired by the CL debacle of this week (and other related threads):

Who takes the penalty kick for your favorite NT (or club team)? Should they use someone else?

From what I remember from the WC, Ahn Jung Hwang takes the PK for Korea Republic. Is that still the case?

For Japan, it's a no-brainer, they use Nakamura, and rightfully so.

    What about PRC?

    Iran?

Well, in last year's world cup, it seemed like Korea didn't really have a set PK taker. It still baffles me why Hiddink chose to go with Lee EY in the USA game, a guy with not much big game experience. over people like Hwang SH or Hong MB. I'm sure that the tension really got to him there, and he pretty much shot a very weak shot into Friedel.

Buffon made a good save on Ahn in the Italy game. Ahn shot it hard and low pretty well but Buffon guessed the right way. I don't think Ahn is the regular PK taker for Korea though... in asian games, it was Lee DG who shot the PK regularly, but now I have no idea. But seeing that Lee DG has a good powerful shot with accuracy and the killer instinct, I'd probably pick him over anyone currently in the NT squad.

pk? does any team certain players to kick it? nakamura kicked it agianst uruguay but the last pk japan took was a year ago against honduras which santos took it. befoe that, it goes back to 8/15/01 against australia which nakayama scored right after he was subbed in for yanagisawa.

speaking of pk, it reminds me of 2 japanese commedians vs. alessandro del piero & peruzzi back in '97 (i guess). it took del piero 14 or 15 goals to beat the commedian noritake kinashi when finally he blased a shot over the bar. the commedian was too much for peruzzi he could not deflect anything until the end. it was almost a public humilation for those italians. i could see del piero's face getting mad.

It was actually supposed to be Lee Chun-soo to take the penalty kick against the USA. God knows why Lee Eul-yong was selected however. Lee had never scored off a penalty in his career up until that point.

    Keller would've saved it.

    Oops! Wrong forum. :D

    --------------

I'd say who takes the penalties for the US, but I can't remember the last time we got one. It'd probably be Mathis, Donovan or McBride, depending who's on the field. David Unsworth takes Everton's penalties, though Kevin Campbell did under Walter Smith, IIRC.

Wasn't it Fan Zhiyi who took China's PKs, at least under the Bora administration?

from what i've heard, they didnt have a set pk kicker before the game (which was one of a rare mistakes by Hiddink). WHen Lee Cheon-Soo wanted the limlight so bad he stepped up to kick but people didn't let him. Lee Eul-Yong probably kicked it because Hiddink thought he had the most accurate kick in the NT. He did score a free kick and assisted Ahn's goal from a free kick too (against usa).

Against Spain we had penalty shoot out. The best player is suppose to take the last shot and second best is suppose to shoot first. Whang took the first pk and Hong took the 5th one.

Nakata would definitely take the PK for Japan. He has so much composure too.

I don't know where you get that PK theory from. IMO, the best player must NEVER take the last shot. What if you miss the first three shots and the opponents haven't missed a shot? If you put your best player last (or even second-to-last) then he will never have a chance to take a shot.

I'm not Sir Alex, but I would do the following when taking PKs:

    1st shot: Best player
    2nd shot: 3rd best player
    3rd shot: 2nd best player
    4th shot: 4th best player
    5th shot: 5th best player

    Just my 2 cents. :)

In the current Chinese NT, I would think that Qi Hong, Li Xiaopeng, or Shao Jiayi would take the PK.

    ???

Nakamura > Nakata on the PK and FK

(but Nakata is the more complete player)

    I thought everyone knew this.

Nakata took all the pk and fk when he was with Perugia. I would have him on the pk.

Perugia was so long ago. Current form is what matters. If Nakamura isn't in the game, Nakata will probably kick the PK, but if they're both in I'm almost 100% sure Zico picks Nakamura.

Now that Hong & Hwang are no longer on the international scene, I think Park Ji-Sung should be the regular PK taker.. I don't think he missed one PK as the regular taker for Kyoto's championship winning season..

Daei is the number one choice for taking penatly kicks and then Mahdavikia i believe. Other than foreign based palyers, im guessing it would be Navidkia.

Chusoo stepped up, but Hiddink wanted Lee to kick it because Lee was the best PK taker whenever the Korean NT had pk practice. Lee was also known to be extremely cold and calm when taking PKs up till that point and that was the reason why Hiddink wanted Lee to kick it.
