Garber speaks on a lot of stuff, including tomorrow's FSW announcement (it'll most likely be a game of the week and a highlight show). And this comes from MLSnet.com The MetroStars today acquired midfielder Joey Di Giamarino via a weighted lottery. “We are excited that we were fortunate again to win the league’s lottery process and to win a guy like Joey,” said MetroStars General Manager Nick Sakiewicz. The lottery draft is the mechanism used to place players signed after the 2003 MLS SuperDraft, and who are not assigned to an MLS team via one of the league's other mechanisms (e.g. discovery option, allocation, or the waiver draft). Participation in the MLS lottery system, which was adopted in November, 1999, is voluntary at the discretion of each team. In the event that a team participates in the lottery system and is assigned a player, it will not be entitled to participate in any future lottery during that calendar year until all teams have been allocated a player via the lottery system (he lives in California, yet the "weighted" lottery gives us another reason to boo the metrofilth) Metro Lottery Garber Speaks
Why do we even call it a lottery? We need something more original than the Metro Lottery... a better escapes me, but I am sure someone more creative can think of something. This could be a great poll to set up and after a week or so, send the results to MLS so we can officially change the name from it's current generic state: weighted lottery.
yeah let's whine about a lottery for a non all star when stewart, hedjuk and moore were just handed out i swear people just bitch to see their type
Actually... while they were handed out... they were given to teams with salary cap room. It is not Columbus, DC or anyone else's fault that the Fire loaded their salaries and then had to dump quality because of being over the cap. Some teams planned long-term (Columbus), some gambled for short-term success (Chicago) and others seem to have no clue or plan (NY/NJ).
Who is this guy? Digi?!? I've never heard of him... Also, on a different note, anyone see the advertisement on mlsnet.com featuring a picture of K-Mart? Man, that has me pumped for the season to start!!
Interesting to see that he "played for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga the past two years". If he even saw action at all, it was in the 3rd Division with the reserves. And he couldn't even play for the main team that's in the relegation zone this year.
As far as I'm concerned, Leverkusen is managed by a troop of German A$$clowns. They don't have a clue when it comes to making a franchise work. Look at all the players that have "BL" stamped to their resumes and have never seen any action in the 1st division? Look at who else in Germany has top-notch talent that they bought out of BL. Leverkusen should rot in hell and I hope they get relegated.
