With the field a respectable size now, it wouldn't be too poor of an idea, especially if they could get a good size crowd.

I wouldn't mind if this was a friendly, but I would hope they wouldn't take a league match over there just to do it. I really don't see the point. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

I hated going to matches there and have no desire to do it again.

I know I can sometimes be a bit...er...cranky about stuff, but the Crew built a nice, new soccer stadium which everyone agrees is a better place to watch a game.

Why in the hell would we want to go back to a place where watching the match sucked?

I can't believe that we haven't done this before. As all of you know, Crew are a massive club, and when you are a massive club, it is sometimes necessary to play in a larger venue. We're so massive 106k seats just won't be enough to satisfy demand. We're the largest club in North America, and possibly the world, there's no reason why we shouldn't be playing in a stadium larger than Santiago Bernabau, Old Trafford, or San Siro. So just sit back and enjoy our massive atmosphere that we'll soon have for what promises to be a massive tie up, hopefully this fixture will be one of our Champions Cup tie ups, a competition we were unlucky not to dominate.

It's not an awful idea but I'd rather just play it at our own stadium.

I'm with these guys. We have our own stadium which was built for the team so why would we want anything less?

I can see if it if was for a friendly against a major european team or a possible July 4th game (July 4th, 2004 is a Sunday, BTW.)

Also FWIW, rumblings also commented that Jim Smith may look into 7 PM start times next year.

Why? I like 7:30 PM. Not everyone on these boards watches the espn2 game at 4 PM, but for those that do, the 7:30 game in Columbus really messes with things. So unless the whole schedule is changed (say espn2 moves to sunday afternoons), then I have to say that 7:30 is better.

This is assuming Ned is still with the club in 2005.

I'm curious how such an arrangement would work if they actually played at Ohio Stadium. From a revenue standpoint, can the Crew actually afford to effectively cough-up one match's worth of revenue - parking, concessions, "free rent," etc? I highly doubt Ohio State would be so kind as to allow the Crew to keep all that money if they played at Ohio Stadium.

If Smith wants to do something "special" during the tenth season, why not go the baseball route with a turn back the clock day? They could wear 1996-style uniforms and all that. Hell, if he wants to recapture the spirit of Ohio Stadium he could have the grounds crew paint up CCS like the football field - complete with block "O" - with yellow soccer lines, a narrower field and blare music throughout the match.

And of course, no beer sales.

But the could give out those mini-balls for us to throw on the field.

Just you wait until our massive club sells 106k tickets in less than two hours, we'll see who ends up with egg all over their face. Columbus Crew, the Real Madrid of North America.

Thousands of people in Singapore are buying Crew jerseys and soon we will have CrewTV. A channel devoted to the Crew that is available nationwide.
