Sorry if this has been discussed, but while I was visiting the in-laws over the holidays, they drove me by what looks like a sports complex in Frisco, complete with a baseball stadium for a minor-league team. Was this site ever under consideration for a new stadium? Seems to me that if they could build a minor-league baseball stadium, they could have just as easily built a 20K seater for the Burn.
Frisco is actually more than likely going to host the Burn Stadium. I have also read about that minor league baseball stadium. Although I'd rather have it closer to the city itself (i.e. Lewisville, Grapevine, etc.) a soccer specific stadium is great news for any club. Plus thats no problem compared to this crap we may be faced with by playing in a fake-grassed, 8k seater HIGH SCHOOL stadium. As oppose to our best grass in the league Cotton Bowl, which has history of all Burn games and 6 world cup matches.
No. During the planning stages for the complex that will house the Minor league baseball stadium and the new Dallas Stars training center, MLS was in the midst of the McKinney negotiations. Hicks-Muse owns both the Rangers and the Stars and they were the Business money behind the complex you saw going up in Frisco. I am not sure how much the city contributed to the complex. The baseball stadium cost 22 million. Frisco also approved a community improvement budget of 197 billion last year to build schools, cultural centers, parks, etc. I believe that the new Burn stadium would be constructed using a portion of this fund, but that is pure speculation on my part.
