Just wanted to make some points regarding some of the info I have read recently on the board. 1) The Hunt ownership thing is a done deal. I have heard this out of the mouths of several Burn and MLS officials. It's going to happen, no doubt about it. 2) That deal was driven by the dedication of the league towards building a SSS. Frisco may not be a totally done deal. We are not privledged to all of the inside information. I would suggest it is closer to happening than you think. But mark my words, if it doesn't happen in Frisco, it will happen somewhere north of LBJ. They are absolutely set on that idea. 3) The Burn need a place in the meantime that will serve two purposes. One is to lower operating costs and raise revenue. Ticket revenue from SLC will not increase, but they will get a ton of money from concessions and parking that they never saw before. And operating expenses will be substantially less than the cotton bowl. The second purpose is to begin building a fan base in north dallas so that when the stadium is constructed, they have an existing fanbase in north dallas who will attend the games, so the new stadium will have a higher amount of season ticket holders. 4) Don't worry about season tickets. The burn have what, 5K per year that they sell? And don't worry about the Inferno - the Burn front office loves you guys. I am sure they will open one endzone for festive season tickets (read inferno members) and people who want to go crazy (around 2K seats), just like they do in Chicago and New England. And the other season ticket holders will get one sideline. 5) This isn't a statement as much as it is a suggestion. I know they Fire bus people in from a part of chicago that has bars before the game. Why not have an inferno/Burn supporters bus from Ben's half yard house? Do the tailgating there and on the bus on the way to the game... just a thought . When I first heard this, I thought it was crap because I didn't think the dallas public would take MLS seriously. Dale Hanson would ride it into the ground. However, give us Earnie Stewart, a nats player who gives the Burn more viability, and show how this is just a forerunner to building a new stadium, and the people will show up. Short term it sucks (first half of the season, ala naperville), long term, it is much better, with a MUCH better environment to an empty cotton bowl.
You're wrong about the operating expenses being 'substantially' less than the Cotton Bowl. You are, however, very correct on the concession (maybe)/parking (most probable) issue. I must warn you, however, that the success of the Burn organization does not rely solely on 'contingent' revenue streams, but lies directly with the proper nurturing of fans and communities. SLC is NOT Frisco, and fans crowding into mini-vans at Ben's in order to save on parking and enjoy tailgating - is not an appropriate approach to endearing 'North of LBJ residents' to MLS. HSG isn't an investment group that can produce a 'Columbus'. They've done nothing in the past to instill confidence through the league, and they've dragged the 'loyal fan' sanity to it's limits. Just like MetroHack-n-sack; SSS and solid 'plans' are needed to garner 'growing' support. This 'deal' has left me with waning confidence in HSG and I want REAL ownership - Cuban-esque, or not.
