Friends is funnier than ever and I'm gutted it's ending soon but now I've got Will and Grace to fill the gap. Is everyone watching this show - it's even funnier than Friends - absolutely classic? Martin
Seriously? Granted, "Friends" still has its moments, but "Will and Grace" is horrendous. The writing is on par with "Just Married" or "Saved by the Bell" at this point. Talk about a show that is surviving solely based on the afterglow of "Friends"...
Saved by the Bell is cheesey - I think it's supposed to be cheesey. But you're missing out on Will and Grace - it's got the same writers as Friends - easily seen by the caustic comments, gag a minute, plenty of puns show that it is! Give it time (it'll grow on you)!!!! Martin
Ugh. Those are my wife's two favorite shows - and my "computer game" time. There aren't many good prime-time shows on right now, and these two don't make the list.
You've seriously gone down in my estimation. Most shows have a good part in their existence. Whether they started well but got crap, or the other way round, or something in the middle. Saved By the Bell has always been awful. Though not as bad as that one about the high school basketball team or that Malibu Ca. thing.
American sitcoms as a whole are suffering. Seriously, there was a time when both Friends and Will & Grace were good, but writing has gotten abysmal and they rely on stunt casting and stunt plot lines for ratings now. For me, the only sitcoms worth my time are The Simpsons and Scrubs.
I watched Will and Grace in the beginning, but I agree that it has gone downhill these last couple of seasons. I don't even watch it anymore. Scrubs on the other hand is great stuff! Fresh, funny, and well written all the way around.
Agreed. Simpsons is a timeless classic and Scrubs is great. Thinkin about it, I can't think of one actor who could pull off the role of JD as well as Zach Braff. I used to like Friends a lot, but it seemed like the collectively as a group, the cast got really stupid if not annoying. Oh, and Joey's novelty "How YOUUUU doin?" is not the way real New Yorkers say it.
Its a multi use/sounding thing. WHen you are just saying to your buddies its different than when youre trying to be sarcastic and smooth like Joey is trying to be. Either ways its retarded.
Many people, myself included, believe that The Simpsons has been on the decline over the past three seasons or so. And it's all thanks to Ian Maxtone-Graham who should be drug out back and shot. It used to be more based in reality, less sight gags, and higher quality dialogue. He changed that.
Grace and Stacey are the same person, Will and Ned are not. Dharma & Greg has always sucked mucho ass, Will & Grace was pretty decent at first, Ned & Stacey was always decent.
Some would say that the Simpsons has been on the decline ever since Conan Obrien left. And that was something like 7 or 8 years ago. It may not be what it used to be, but it is still one of the best shows out there.
Agreed. But you know it's bad when they had a Shatner bit (as they did tonight) given how much they crapped on The Family Guy for being moronic humor when in fact, the Shatner bit got it's start on The Family Guy.
Simpsons really peaked around 1993-95 (list your favorite episodes and chances are, most of them will come from early-to-mid 90's) and have steadily declined since then, imho. Though I also think it's made a slight rebound (albeit not enough to return to its heyday) the last couple of years.
Last week's episode (Homer takes over the church, faces God's wrath) was also loosely ripped off a Family Guy episode (only difference was that Peter actually proclaimed himself God, whereas Homer only treated a church as his personal playground).
I thought the Simpsons had improved this season. They have become sweeter and have a heart which was missing from the earlier seasons. The seasons of "Saddlesore Galagtica" and "Homer vs Dignity " were the lowest point. They also have improved on the horrible problem of the ending of Simpon's episode's. The Ending of "Lisa the Tree hugger" , "Great Money Caper" and "Fryng game" were awful and the lowest point being "New Kids on the bleech". (Many will never forgive them for that one). Episodes like "I'm spelling as fast as I can" and "Scuse me while I miss the sky" had great ending as well as being great shows. Also they episode I considered the worst ("Principal and the Pauper") was in done in one of the best seasons.
I used to be a huge Freinds fan now I don't make much of an effort to watch it. If I'm in and bored I'll turn it on but thats about it. I used to love the stupid stuff they got up to, mostly Joey and Phoebe but nowadays they concentrate more on romantic storylines. I suppose they assume their audience is growing older with the characters but I don't buy it. Will and Grace is OK, nothing special. I'd say Scrubs is the pick of the NBC stable at the moment. they've certainly lost that "killer" show like Seinfeld, Cheers and Mash everyone talks about the day after.
I'd blame the decline of The Simpsons on Mike Scully who took over as Executive Producer in season 9. He was there from seasons 9-12, and I think it has rebounded a bit. To see how awfully unfunny this man is, watch his newest creation, The Pitts.
If you happened to be from a city that one of the Friends cast members is from you wouldn't be gutted. That junk is on 24-7 around here. I think every local station has it in syndication, or at least it seems that way.
