You know, it's funny how the europeans always make fun of us because of our obsession with statistics. You read that article and tell me who's obsessed. Man, that's a whole lot of numbers.

The stats show that Friedel has "0 Dropped catches" and a "100% Catch success rate". If what that says is that he has not dropped one ball all season, that is mighty impressive.

Too bad they only showed a stat for punted distributions. It's Friedel's thrown distributions that are so dangerous.

To bad they didn't add international stats to that....

Kinda sad that the only nice thing they can say about Seaman is that he's a "modern legend" because he's played in so many games.

To me that just says most EPL keepers aren't very good.

Except Seaman is out now--as is Vieira and Campbell. B'burn without Thompson, Dunn and Neill, but get back Duff, Short, and Gresko.

As we all know the best way to evaluate an individual player is to look directly at the quality of their teamates. I mean, with Friedel in there we know Arsenal is mid-table without Seamans awesome medal winning prowess.

Im just looking at Seamo's whole career...
Arse were well known for their mean defence...Seaman ,Dixon ,Winterburn ,Adams ,Bould...He has played at top level for about 15 years..
He aint what he used to be but who is Brad Freidel?? what has he ever done compared to seamo??

    Oh nothing much ...

Just been better as his chosen profession.

Come now honestly, if Friedel were English who would you want in goal?

The best keeper currently in the EPL. You shouldnt need me to tell you that if you have been paying any attention whatsoever.

Depends what you class as better..
If winning nothing in your whole career ,playing for mediocre club teams ,playing a handful of games in europe ,etc.. makes you better than frediel can claim his crown as the best .lmao

Exhibit #2343 in "The English Simply Can't Give Any American Credit" series.

At this exact moment in time and space, Friedel is a better goalie. That's all that is being proposed.

    Discuss.

I'm perfectly happy to acknowledge that Arsenal are a better team then Blackburn.

That has nothing to do with my question which remains:

If Friedel were english who would you rather have in goal, him or Seaman?

Your arguments that Seaman is better just b/c he's had a better defense and played at a better club mean nothing and make absolutely no sense. You could almost make the argument that Friedel is better b/c he HAS played with a crummier back four and smaller clubs. Nothing against Seaman personally, he's a fantastic keeper, but winning medals simply means you were one of 11 great players. It doesn't automatically make you a better player.

Makes as much sense as the comment that "this says to me that most EPL keepers aren't very good".

Who mentioned Keller? The fact that you bring him up rather than actually make a single credible argument against my statement suggests that you know its clear that Friedel is the best keeper in the EPL and you just dont want to admit it.

Actually I think both Friedel and Seaman are worlds beyond Kasey Keller.

Keller is a middling EPL gaolkeeper. I don't even believe he deserve the #2 spot for the US. (especially when you take his occasional temper tantrums into account).

I fail to see how that takes anything away from Friedel.

LOL, sorry. I'll leave you to your troll. He is a good one. And I like his name.

Sinner_ronald_monk, the name always jumps out at me when I see your posts. Does it come from something?

I'm staying out of most of this because (a) Friedel *is* probably a better keeper than Seaman right now, and (b) Sinner is an idiot; but I have to take issue with "been better at his chosen profession". Friedel's only really come to prominence (in Europe) in the last couple of seasons, since Blackburn were promoted. Before that he was just another good, but not outstanding, keeper who used to play for Liverpool.

Regardless of recent form, I don't think you can just dismiss two decades of being first-choice keeper, and two decades of first-class keeping for the most part. Friedel may be better at this moment in time, but he hasn't "been" better.

Brad Freidel is that big guy who was stopping pks for the US while "Seamo" was getting chipped from fourty yards out at that little tourney they had last summer.

I mean honestly, "Seamo" may have been good once, but even the English managers are desperately looking for a replacement chasing David James et. al out there.
