Brad Friedel will be announcing his retirement from the mens national team! I heard this from a good source. He wants to spend more time with his family. Expect an announcement in the next few days or weeks!

Need to hear more than "a good source" to see it. If it is true then our top keepers are now backups in the EPL and MLs keepers (not that that is bad, but they don't see the likes of Thierry Henry every match).

I was just thinking today that Friedel would probably be out keeper for the El Salvador match.

My cousin's best friend is a teammate on the sunday-league team of the Uncle of the boyfriend of George Weah's niece... and I heard from him that George Weah is moving to NY to play for the Metros.

    Great news!

Is the guy any good? I've seen that his son has a little ability.
Can't wait...for that and our stadium.

From what I understand his daughter played a big part in his decision. He also wants to be remebered for his play in 2002 WC. I actually am not sure when he plans on announcing it - but I figured it must be real soon if he was telling the person I heard it from.

Make jokes all you want - but this is not a rumor! Just wanted to pass along the knowledge i was privledged enough to hear.

Of course it is a rumor. You are hearing from a person who claims to be hearing it from another person. Then you have to take into account that we are hearing it from you, whom we don't know, and I think that it would classify it as a rumor. You could be telling the 100% truth about what you heard, but since none of us can substantiate it, it's a rumor.

Actually it was an email! And the persons name who shared this with me appeared in the "to" column with Friedel in the "from" column.

understood futbolfan, but since none of us know you nor can vouch for your veracity, and we are getting it 2nd hand ........... it's still a rumor.

How old is his daughter and for what reason would he quit. If I was Brad Friedel's kid I would beg him to keep playing with the USMNT......If this is true then I want to be the first to say.....Brad Friedels daughter is spoiled and needs to think about the good her dad could do for his country...If this is even true of course.

No offense but if you gave me your email address... I could send you an email with Brad Friedel in the FROM column also.

Very easy to fake these things...

So please understand if we are cautious.
If you are indeed correct... kudos to you... I'm not saying you're worng or makin gup anything... just that an email with Friedel in the "from" column means next to nothing on the internet.

So Brad Friedel heard this from a friend who heard it from *futbalfan* who heard it from a friend who heard it from Brad Friedel in an Email in which it was cc'ed to Brad Friedel as it was Brad Friedels 22 month old daughter who told Brad Freidel to spend more time with her because playing with the USMNT is too much for the family yet playing for Blackburn in a foreign country is just fine and everyone on Bigsoccer is an asshat. You follow?

Remember Harkes and Steve Sampson's hairdresser? It is plausible and let's wait and see.

IF Friedel ain't in Salvador, that's a clue.

Mike, you should know as well as anyone that any child sired by Friedel could not only talk upon leaving its mother's womb, but probably could give the doctor directions on cutting the cord.

Shame on you for your apparent doubt.

Wooh, you guys need to settle down... smoke some pot... and relax.

It's a message board about soccer... what do you expect? No rumors? No need to get all 'elitist' on this guy just for posting something. If you don't want to read it, then don't click on the thread... it's that simple.

Well, this thread is a clinic in how rumors get started and how people take rumors further than the original rumor. futbolfan never said that Brad's daughter TOLD him to quit. He simply said that his daughter played a big part in Brad's decision to quit. When reading that the first time, it only meant to me that futbolfan was claiming that Brad was making the decision with his daughter in mind. Yet and still, no less than 4 people have taken futbolfan's original statement and embellished it to the point where they are claiming that futbolfan has stated that Brad's daughter told Brad to quit. Oyy vey.

What are you talking about? futbolfan is a terrible person for saying all of those things. How dare he speculate about something? What nerve. He should be shot so all of us logical 'fact-based' thinkers can live holding hands in harmony.

    note the sarcasm.
