I"m starting this thread now, so we can all try and get the word out about this. I think we should all try and meet up at a bar on the 20th in Lyon. I would like to see some suggestions pop up. Preferably somewhere without a dress code, but would be nice to get some kind of bar with a dance floor, so we can meet (pick up) some of the french locals (notice this was not gender specific)....

I'll throw these place out.. looks like it will be pretty lively.

Yeah, cuz Americans are real popular there right now.

On a serious note, but in the same vein, with all the anti-American bs in Europe right now, and the fact that there are many terrorist cells spread over Europe, France particularly, perhaps posting info on the internet well in advance where a large number of Yanks are going to be on a specific date isn't the safest of ideas. Perhaps get an email list off-line going.

That's silly. Do you think Osama Bin Laden would bother attacking 8 drunken bigsoccer.com posters?

I recommend you guys pre-game at one of the bars near the stadium. It was an awesome scene of US fans there before the USA-Iran game in 1998.

Perhaps not Bin Laden, but maybe someone in the vein of Richard Reid or another extremist acting on his or her own.

Look, Metrotard raises a very good point here. Anti-American sentiment is running high, and Americans travelling abroad have to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings at all times. That may mean keeping a lower profile away from the stadiums where security should be tighter.

Bear in mind that this scenario isn't that far-fetched. A year or so ago the NBC series The West Wing worked into a plot line a story of American soccer fans being killed in a terrorist attack overseas... attending an international tournament and attacked which celebrating in a bar.

All it takes is one person people.

That being said, Lyon is home to the headquarters for Interpol, there will no doubt be an increase in visible security measures for this particular tournament, and there's no reason why we all can't meet up and enjoy summertime in France.

Hell, after Dublin, I'm loving the chance to enjoy a game in a nicer climate.

BTW: Ayers Rock looks pretty good to me.

Going to be buying my plane ticket in the next two weeks.

You’ll be invulnerable if you wear your Arsenal shirt. No one is going to attack you then.

In France 98 this warning went up too, and as a result I couldn't find or meet any Americans in bars for pre or post game activity. You can be safe alright, safe and alone. You decide.

Just bought my plane ticket yesterday (3/9). I'll be getting into Lyon on Wednesday the 18th at 10:55 AM, returning on the 25th at 11:55AM.

Not sure what the full itinerary will be, but depending on the draw I might try to make one of the regional UEFA Intertoto matches on Sunday the 22nd.
