https://www.espn.com/soccer/la-gala...eksandar-katai-after-wifes-social-media-posts So now you can get fired for what your wife post on social media.
Uh....yeah. Is that some kind of shocking news? The only way Aleksander Katai could even possibly have held on to his job is if he would have announced his immediate separation and divorce from his wife. Which frankly he should consider anyway....
Yikes. How does that work? I'm assuming now that wives married to men that get charged for rape, assault, or murder should be fired from their jobs, right?
Yeah, this feels a bit off, especially with the way Katai came out and denounced his wife's posts in no uncertain terms. I mean, I get it, as a public persona he and his family are stuck with a different level of expectation than a "regular" person, which isn't entirely fair, but shouldn't be a surprise to any professional athlete either. That said, he did pretty much everything you should expect, short of publicly divorcing her, so I'm wondering if something else is going on here.
Wow - I'm genuinely stunned. I thought that Katai getting cut by the Galaxy was the easiest forgone conclusion to predict in the history of MLS. People in all walks of life are judged by those with whom they associate, and you don't "associate" with anybody more closely than your spouse. He even publicly stated that he "takes full responsibility" himself. And it's not as though his wife made some clueless Drew Brees-level of insensitive remark. The woman not only mocked the Black Lives Matter movement (which is being openly embraced and promoted by MLS), but also advocated using lethal violence against protestors. There is no way in hell the league nor his team were going to stand behind this guy (and by extension his immediate family). Not to mention the backlash he would have been met with from Galaxy fans, road fans, opposing players, and even his own teammates. He surely would have faced a level of harassment and hostility that would have made his career unmanageable, and possibly unsafe, for not only him but those around him as well. It never occurred to me for a split second that this was a cover for "something else going on."
I didn't mean to suggest it was "cover" for something more nefarious. I just meant that maybe the Galaxy wanted some assurances she wouldn't do something like that again, maybe even in writing, and he couldn't our wouldn't give them. That there was more to it than just her posts, that they tried to figure out if they could make it work but determined, but after more investigation came to the conclusion that it couldn't because of "something more".
I posted this elsewhere but I'll expand on it here. His wife said things like "run over the shits" with a picture of an NYPD SUV next to a line of protesters. Katai issued an apology and people still tore into him because his wife said some shit you just don't put out there publicly. If you look at it from his shoes he was going to be persona non grata with many of his teammates and with a majority of the fans. His wife couldn't come to games without facing abuse and he was going to hear some really heinous things on the road (I'm very laid back and don't curse or really give players the business. If he came to Philly I would not hold back in letting him know his wife was a racist POS whenever he was in earshot). You know that you are no longer welcome and you have to weigh the money you will make versus the abuse you and your family will take. So I really think he and the Galaxy actually agreed that for both parties they needed to move on because it would just be ugly for both sides. I don't think they could legally let him go based on the CBA language anyway, so I do think Katai realized he needed to go.
For what it is worth, the story made the top of the CNN page: L.A. Galaxy part ways with player whose wife made offensive Instagram posts https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/05/us/mls-la-galaxy-aleksandar-katai-wife-instagram-spt-intl/index.html
Advocating for the NYPD to "kill the sh*ts" and the "the sh*ts are burning a church" are not "differing opinions." They are advocating racist murder.
xtomx is 100% correct. And you should know that the quote you have in your BigSoccer signature is not from Voltaire, but actually from Kevin Strom, an American white nationalist, neo-Nazi and Holocaust denier.
It's from Voltaire, dumbass. Let's see, who was born first, did Voltaire quote Strom(a person I've never heard about until you mentioned him) or did Strom quote Voltaire?.
Wikiquote, along with most other hits on the first page of Google, disagree. It doesn't appear it was Voltaire. https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Voltaire#Misattributed
You're quoting Wikipedia? The website that allows anybody to make corrections to the information, that Wikipedia?
Thanks, JasonMa. I was able to find similar corroborative support here: https://voltairefoundation.wordpress.com/2017/03/10/voltaire-and-the-one-liner/
It’s not Tacitus, either. In case you were planning to change the attribution in your sig. https://www.reddit.com/r/latin/comments/6bczxo/is_it_true_that_tacitus_wrote_if_you_would_know/ Thx, Jay!
