From the article: "The project has several upsides including helping clean up a toxic waste site, opening up the coastline for more recreation, creating jobs for building and maintaining the stadium and helping boost tourism, according to [Massachusetts Senate President Karen] Spilka." I have mixed feelings about this one. The Revs should have their own grounds, especially if MLS is going to switch to a Fall-Spring schedule. ...but on a piece of land that is currently a toxic waste site? How good are we at cleaning up toxic waste sites these days?
helping clean up a toxic waste site, only to have the Revolution pollute the site again?!? I kid, I kid
I believe DC United’s Audi Field also had to mitigate toxic soil. Nothing like what Jason alluded to above though!
The Philadelphia Union's Stadium in Chester, the site its' on also needed some remediation work done on it I believe.
San Jose's stadium was built on the site of a former tank factory and they found empty shell casings while prepping the ground!
I appreciate the reply. I asked because I still remember the days when companies made big promises in this area and under-delivered. I wasn't aware of the previous history of DSG Park, so thank you for pointing that out. I'm sure if the Rapids employees that work there were growing extra arms or experiencing deformities, we'd know about it. May The Revs experience the same success towards acquiring a venue as The Rapids. Cheers!
