So let's get this straight, MLS refs felt cornered in their private locker room all cuz the MLS Defender of the Year supposedly bumrushed them in said private locker room post his team's playoff victory.
    Check!

I knew WST would be all over this, but it seems to be a slight mistranslation to me. He likely meant minor as in lower as compared to the top tier of Europe, not minor as in lower division. And he can say what he wants, but we saw him playing pretty damn hard in his first season. Hopefully that doesn't change going forward.

Yes, he was speaking Spanish. The US-specific connotation of "minor league" is not likely something he thinks about.

And yet where are all of the leagues that WST has championed over the years?

Just curious , after the EPL, Serie A, Ligue 1 , La Liga , Bundesliga ,Campeonato Brasileiro Série A , Argentine Primera División ,CONMEBOL, CAF, Primeira Liga , Eredivisie, Russian , Belgian Pro League, J,Qatari and Saudi Leagues , every other circuit in the world is minor?

So therefore , almost each MLS club, that has in possession their own stadium and a $500 million franchise fee nearing a total value of around $1 billion is a minor league?

If that’s the case , MAJOR League Soccer has got to be considered one heck of a MINOR league.

It also makes me wonder if most of the clubs in those leagues can come equal to the value MLS teams boast.

I think for many players, literally all leagues other than epl, la Liga, and serie a are thought of as minor.

That means every league in the world is minor.

Typical narrow-minded Euro -Latin American snob mentality.

No, not every. There are 3 leagues that are not, but in some of those leagues you're only allowed to play for 2-3 teams hehe

Honestly though, how much shit did Neymar get for playing in a very decent French league?

I saw the Messi quote translated as “lesser” as well, which doesn’t sting as much. But, yeah, he most likely was simply referencing the reality of the global league hierarchy, and not singling out MLS in the manner that WST clearly wants him to.

WST never fails. Gets a boner everytime someone talks shit about MLS. Or in this case which he clearly doesn't understand Spanish doesn't fail to twist it to fit his agenda.

The point is, why is there always such an emphasis placed on the LEVEL OF THE LEAGUE from foreign players and journalists when it comes time to talking about MLS?

We all know it isn't a top 5 Euro league but who cares that it isn’t that superior level and why does it have to be?

I mean it’s a league, and a good one which has grown from 10 franchises in 2004 to 29 going on 30 now.

That is on average 20 more clubs in 20 years.

Also, each team is now valued at around $1 billion with their own stadia , sponsors and TV deals in place and, there are many different contrasting styles which Giorgio Chiellini just stated last week.

No league in the world can or has ever boasted these numbers and growth since the game was discovered.

If it were as inferior or as easy as many claim it to be, then the superstars who come over would or should be dominating but often, they seem to struggle and make excuses.

Therefore, I think this inferior league narrative (by now or all these years) is greatly exaggerated.

My guess is that many players and journalists still see MLS as a retirement league.

    Yeah I know.

I think most players from abroad believe it’s an easy retirement league until they come over and play.

We’ve seen so many superstar players come over , play and very few shine or dominate.

Even Messi in league play found it tough but many others have experienced the same fate.
