Lyon won the first semi final leg 3-2, so none of them were going to risk any player.
Some thoughts on the Best XI 1) Justice for Clara Matéo. 18 G+A, and she played notably more than half the season. I think you could argue she should have been a POTS nominee. 2) Endler should have been the GK instead of Nnadozie. Looking at FBref's goalkeeping metrics, I'm not sure at all how Endler lost out to Nnadozie. Szemik should have been nominated, and I would have accepted her as the best GK over Endler. 3) Le Sommer and Horan (I'm assuming) are going to finish having played less than half the season in total minutes. Their inclusions are very questionable given Matéo (18 G+A) and Katoto (17 G+A) playing more minutes than both and having much better G+A/90 ratios. 4) Now, putting in Endler and taking away Le Sommer and Horan would have Lyon at 4 players, and including Katoto would have PSG at 5 players. I do think De Almeida had a solid league season, but I certainly wouldn't argue with having Gilles in the Best XI instead of her. I think Diani is a bit unlucky with the omission, but I think Benyahia is worthy of the recognition. 5) So, Endler - Karchaoui, Gilles, Mbock Bathy, Carpenter - Damaris, Geyoro, Matéo - Chawinga, Katoto, Benyahia would have been my TOTS.
Second XI for fun Szemik - Bacha, De Almeida, Samoura, Le Guilly - Horan, Groenen, Thiney - Dufour/Ribadeira, Le Sommer/Hegerberg, Diani
The new pro league is born and will also move on to 14 teams in 2026/27 La 𝗟𝗙𝗙𝗣, l’𝗔𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗺𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗲̀𝗿𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗲 et la 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗲 : les nouveaux emblèmes du football féminin professionnel 🔝 pic.twitter.com/XesKQjFtRh— Ligue Féminine de Football Professionnel (@LFFPofficielle) April 29, 2024
Clara Matéo needs to get herself a good (or better) PR team. Another POTS award has five nominees - Hegerberg, Horan, Geyoro, Karchaoui, and Chawinga. The Matéo erasure is just ridiculous. What is Horan's secret? Hegerberg absolutely hasn't played enough to be a POTS nominee in my opinion, and Horan hasn't really either on top of having less standout G/A numbers. Damaris should be a nominee. Katoto instead of Karchaoui for me from a PSG perspective. Maybe Diani/Benyahia should have been nominated.
Thread Here are the main points from the launch of the women professional league in France the Ligue Feminine de Football Professionelle (LFFP), it comes as France celebrates the 50th anniversary of the women league creation back in 1974. pic.twitter.com/eEv8eKQUNS— Sylvain Jamet (@S_Jamet) May 1, 2024 Budget will be 10 M€, the competition system has been changed with the play-off introduction . The club licensing and the collective labour agreement is a work in progress that should be signed for the new season, discussion are going well with the players’ syndicate. The new Leagues have been named as Arkema Première Ligue et Arkema Seconde Ligue. The second tier is therefore included in the new professional League. FFF has also plans to extend the Arkema Première Ligue to 14 clubs in 2026/27. The FFF aims to reach the target of 500 000 players registered which is double the numbers from 2024. This is a big target for grassroots football that will need a lot of investment on infrastructure, coaches, information and communication. The FFF aim is to “make the APL the best League in Europe”. Obviously the current UEFA Women’s Champions League association ranking that put France in the first place is a positive, but it does not mean the League itself is as good as the top 3 or 4 teams in France. The FFF executive committee has named Jean-Michel Aulas president of the LFFP and it makes sense considering all the work he has done at Olympique Lyonnais On of the step put in place to improve the league is Licensing Elite and Excellence. The Elite clubs are the ones with an Academy. Excellence club get 350 000€ while Elite clubs get an extra 200 000€ for their Academy. Play-offs are now part of the League structure from this season and decide the UEFA Women Champions League places instead of the League ranking. There will be GLT, VAR and audio VAR announces from the referees in the play-offs. Clubs are required to have a minimum of 11 professional contracts in 2023/24. The FFF announced that there now 200 professional contracts in D1 Arkema (+33% from the previous season). The FFF have also extended the broadcasting contract with Canal Plus in France, a six years deal has been mentioned. DAZN has international rights, while some games are free to watch on FFF TV. TV viewers have also gone up from 2022/23 by 25%. Regarding attendance 70% over the last two years. Very far from the Million announced by the WSL/Championship this season. Key numbers 250 712 women and girls registered 199 139 are players. +11% from last season, 4 000 clubs have a women section at amateur level. That’s a third of the amateur clubs in France. FFF Budget for women’s football overall will be 15 M€ with 10 M€ for the LFFP.
PSG 1 - Fleury 0 Coupe de France Final 1) Groenen doesn't get enough recognition from non Dutch women's football media for how gifted of a two way player she is. She was her 2019 WWC and 2022 Euro vs Sweden self out there in the second half with all her elite tackles/blocks. 2) Chawinga has just been an absolute revelation this season for PSG. Hopefully, no more runs like the two late offside ones for the playoffs though; those were very surprising to see from Chawinga. 3) Gaetino and De Almeida were great. So was Samoura until she self sabotaged. Funnily enough though, I think PSG needed that red card. I missed the action from the 71st minute to the 78th minute, but I think the red card brought Fleury out of their shell a little bit. Also, Le Guilly was critically involved in Martens' winning goal; I don't think Le Guilly for Vangsgaard would have happened as early without the red card, and I'm not sure it would have happened at all without the red. 4) Martens turned back the clock on her goal. Great dribble and pass to Le Guilly, and that was a good cross to Geyoro that fortunately went all the way in for PSG. 5) Offensive struggles in this match, but I think this was easily PSG's best defensive match vs Fleury the last two seasons.
Wait, I forgot there's still one more league match (in which there will be wholesale rotation). So, I guess she's not out for the playoffs regardless.
It will depend if the disciplinary commission gives her an extra game on top of the automatic one. They recently game a 6 games ban and a 3 ban to Montpellier players for abusing/threatening referees.
Honestly, I would be pretty pissed if I were a Lille/Fleury (especially Lille) player, staff member, fan, etc. Reims get into the playoffs, capping off an impressive season after losing Dumornay.
The top 4 teams lost simultaneously for the first time ever in D1 Arkema. The play-off effects with top 3 rotating fully.

EA FC's D1 Arkema TOTS cards are out (Grace Geyoro, Sakina Karchaoui, Tabitha Chawinga, Marie-Antoinette Katoto, Wendie Renard, Selma Bacha, Ada Hegerberg, Amel Majri, Kinga Szemik, Clara Matéo, and Rosemonde Kouassi). Renard, Majri, and Kouassi are Moments Cards (not sure exactly what that means). One big omission for me is Damaris Egurrola, but I'm glad to see Matéo, Katoto, and Szemik included. I think all three were definitely overlooked by the end of season awards.
First semi final playoff match, 2 nd of french league PSG against the third, PFC PSG 2 - 2 PFC PKSO 5 - 4 Nice dive from Karchaoui in the box, she is ready for Cannes Festival
PSG 2 - Paris FC 2 (PSG 5 - Paris 4 on PKs after 90) 1) Someone check Katoto's body temperature. The composure to pull off a panenka vs a PK expert who just had a world class match is something else. Nnadozie was beyond good during the 90 - her first save vs Katoto, both saves vs Chawinga, and that all-time (seriously all-time) great double save at the very end vs Katoto and Geyoro. That being said, she faced six PKs and conceded each time. Cool and collected from each PSG PK taker. 2) I think we now know why Picaud played over Kiedrzynek in both Lyon matches. I didn't think Picaud was good, but Kiedrzynek was just poor today. Obvious error on Paris' first goal, but I honestly think she could/should have gotten more on Paris' second goal as well. Also gave up a dangerous rebound on a late Paris shot directly at her. 3) I think plenty of refs might not have given Groenen a yellow on her first late foul on Thiney, but given the ref gave her one, she was very lucky not to get sent off on her second late foul on Thiney. Groenen receiving hospital passes was a frustrating theme in the second half, and one such pass from Katoto led to that second foul. PSG have to cut out the defensive miscues as much as they can and get Groenen far more consistent midfield support in the final vs (surely) Lyon. 4) That Baltimore cross for Katoto's goal was an absolute dime, and elite forward movement from Katoto made it such a straightforward finish. Great forward play from Karchaoui to earn the PK for Geyoro's goal. 5) Hope for the best for Le Guilly. That was kind of the play that needs to be called a foul even if the pass/shot was completed. 6) How did Paris FC not give up a PK on that high boot on Gaetino where she clearly got to the ball first (on the replay viewing)?
Come on; there was clear contact on her foot at the end. Definitely enough to send someone at full pace to the ground. Or do we want to talk about how Paris FC can high boot Gaetino and not have anything called against them?
3) After rewatching the play, I'll say the first foul was also a straightforward yellow. After Groenen made that interception, Geyoro needed to (and had the time to) switch and mark Thiney. She didn't, and then, that led to the Paris FC attack. Frustrating match, but like top teams do, PSG found a way to advance.
Also, on Matéo's goal, did VAR miss her being offside, or did they decide she didn't touch/challenge for the ball?
Groenen tracked back well and knocked the ball off Matéo. Somehow, Paris FC got awarded a corner. Matéo later made an offside run that helped put her in position to pressure Kiedrzynek, and instead of the goal being disallowed, she got awarded for not staying onside. Paris FC later on then won another corner when it should have been a PSG goal kick. What's next? Let's kick a player in the head in the box after she got to the ball first. I guess being careful with your follow throughs doesn't matter on high foot plays. Seriously, what was the VAR doing today? That challenge on Le Guilly was the worst tackle/defensive play on the pitch throughout the whole match. Not even a foul, let alone a yellow. Yet, non PSG fans have chosen to fuss about supposed officiating biased towards PSG. Just not accurate at all.
Picaud was playing because Kiedrzynek had returning health issues, small injuries that were pilling up during last year. Unfortunatelly the strain of playing for club and country proved to be too much for 34 year old.. and just day before the play-off match Kiedrzynek announced her retirement from Poland WNT. “I still have one year left on my contract at PSG. I don't know what's going to happen next, but I'd like to play some more, because mentally I feel sensational and I've regained my joy of football. However, I take into account that this could be the last year of playing, because as I mentioned, mediocrity does not satisfy me. Upon my return to PSG, I told my coach that if he ever noticed that I was an outlier, that I wasn't performing, he was to let me know. I don't want to play for merit or for my name. Either I give something to the team, or there is no room for sentiment. This is my character. The same goes for the national team. I didn't play in it for money or fame. Representing one's country is a huge responsibility, and if I feel I can't give more to the team, it's time to step aside. I always wanted to end my career on the field, not somewhere far away.”
Still confusing to me why she was listed on the bench, but yeah, I knew there was some sort of issue. After the Lyon UWCL matches, I thought Kiedrzynek would have saved Bacha's goal and one of Lyon's first leg goals. So, my comment was kind of made with mocking/criticizing myself in mind.
