Lyon 1 - PSG 1 Lyon didn’t create a single great chance from open play in my opinion while PSG created arguably two great chances from open play. Lyon did create two great chances (or three if you count Hegerberg right after Horan’s early chance) from set pieces, and that highlights PSG’s ongoing struggles with defending dead ball situations. Cascarino was an obvious game changer for Lyon, and her dribbling was essentially the only blemish on an otherwise great performance from Groenen. Attempting to clear was so unnecessary from De Almeida, but clearing into your own net instead of out for a corner was poor technique. I wonder if Kiedrzynek gave De Almeida a shout or not, and if she didn’t, should she have?
Lyon missed the chance to qualify for the play-off with 68% of the League games played. There is no doubt, Paris SG and Paris FC will end up in the play-offs too but the last place might go to the final day. Lyon can actually concentrate more on the Champions League in the near future thanks to that qualification. PSG as well to be fair, they can relax and not field the strongest team in the League prior and after WCL games. It is a huge advantage for those two clubs.
I am gonna say Michelle Kang has already two managers at Washington Spirit and one at London City Lionesses. Bompastor might be the next victim next Summer.
The Guardian with more news on the Bompastor story: She is under contract until 2025, although it is understood that Lyon’s majority owner, Michele Kang, had been considering making a change at the end of this season after completing her takeover last week. Lyon are expected to demand what one source described as “significant compensation” for Bompastor, who would probably bring her long-term assistant and partner, Camille Abily, with her if she moves to Chelsea. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...a-hayes?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Bompastor and Abily are not really officially out.
D1 Arkema with the postponed games from previous weeks PSG 5 Guingamp 0 St Etienne 4 Reims 3 Le Havre 1 Bordeaux 1 Table Ce soir, l’@ASSEFeminines n’est plus qu’à 3 points des playoffs de #D1Arkema, alors qu’il était dernier avec 4 pts au compteur début décembre. Remontada 🚀 pic.twitter.com/KkoMiVZFz7— Daniel Marques (@Daniel_MRQ) February 17, 2024 Note St Etienne were bottom of the table in December with 4 points. Now only three points from the play-offs.
Kang seems impulsive. What would be her reason for wanting to replace Bompastor even before the news of Chelsea's interest in the Lyon coach was known? She's been very successful.
She seems the type who wants her own stamp on everything. Agree she is also impulsive. Not a fan of Mark Parsons, but damn give him a chance.
French Cup semi-final Lyon 0 FC Fleury 91 0 FC Fleury win 5-4 on pens. Their first ever final. I bet this will be the template for the play-offs for the team finishing 4th against Lyon. Get the draw and win on pens. Second semi-final today Paris FC v Paris SG.
Wow, I didn't expect Lyon to go out. Also consider that I didn't remember the name of the team was "Fleury '91", so at first I had read it as if Lyon had won by 91 to 0.
Paris FC 3 Paris SG 3 PSG win 4-3 on penalty, Dufour sent-off for bookings on 90+1 and 90+2 The final will take place on 4 June in Montpellier
So glad PSG pulled through; it would have been “undeserved” for Paris FC to advance in my opinion. Very debatable PK for Paris FC, stronger PK shouts ignored on Katoto and Chawinga, Mateo like 6 inches away from giving up a PK, an absurd own goal (PSG have to make sure that doesn’t happen anymore), Baltimore hitting the post from fairly close range, and PSG just being the more threatening team throughout the match. Chawinga is awesome, and Katoto had two assists after having no goals or assists in her previous 7 matches for club and country. Groenen had one really poor pass, but I thought she was very good, especially defensively. Baltimore and Karchaoui are sublime dribblers. Samoura with another assist for Chawinga. Geyoro continues to score a lot.
Matchday 17 Lyon 4 Fleury 0 Bordeaux 0 Dijon 2 PSG 5 St Etienne 0 Reims 3 Lille 1 Guingamp 0 Paris FC 4 Le Havre 3 Montpellier 3 Lyon and Paris SG have qualified for the play-offs. Lille and Bordeaux will go down unless a miracle happen. #D1Arkema - J17 : le classement pic.twitter.com/Jv6ecF5elg— footofeminin (@footofeminin) March 17, 2024 Top scorer 1. Chawinga (PSG) 14 2. Hegerberg (Lyon) 12 3. Geyoro (PSG) 11 Top assists 1.Chawinga (PSG) 10 2. Diani (LYON) ,Mateo (PARIS FC) 8
Well, being the top-scorer of Serie A Femminile in Italy was one thing: repeating in France would be quite the achievement for Tabitha Chawinga.
Paulina Dudek extended her contract with PSG till 2026. Looks like she will be back on the pitch (ACL injury) this Spring. Samoura and Karchaoui have to cut out these costly defensive mistakes in the UWCL semi legs vs Lyon. Both FKs for Guingamp's second and third goals were so needless from Samoura, and that clearance from Karchaoui on Guingamp's second goal was the perfect assist. I thought PSG actually benefitted from Samoura missing the second leg vs Hacken, and Karchaoui has had struggles blocking crosses to go along with that own goal vs Paris FC. Geyoro was a big miss in the first half, but I thought PSG did get their offense going in the second half. Vangsgaard needed to produce one/two more good/great crosses; Baltimore missed the one good/great cross that Vangsgaard did pick out. De Almeida was a big miss in the second half.
Matchday 20 ASSE 1 OL 6 FCGB 0 FCF 91 3 MHSC 1 LOSC 2 EAG 3 PSG 3 DFCO 1 HAC 2 PFC 2 SDR 2 Bordeaux are relegated to Division 2 only a couple of years after taking Wolfsburg to a penalty shootout in the Champions League. That's what happens when the men's team is stupidly managed and cannot put money into the women team. Lyon confirmed in first place and will be at home in the play-off semi-final as well as the final/3rd place final. Paris SG will play Paris FC, we don;t know yet which team will be at home. Fourth place will be either Reims, FC Fleury or Montpellier. Note FC Fleury recently beat Lyon on penalties in the French Cup and might try to do the same if they finish fourth. All they need to do is keep a clean sheet for 90 minutes.
Ada Hegerberg has decided to stay at Lyon. A 3 years extension as she was a free agent. 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟕 🤘 pic.twitter.com/c0cvrdAwG0— OL Féminin (@OLfeminin) April 18, 2024 Important for them and D1 Arkema to see her stay instead of going to Barcelona or WSL, NWSL etc... Lyon have a lot of out of contract players that are not being renewed as well as the manager Bompastor who has jumped before she got pushed by the new owner Michelle Kang.
