PSG 4 - Montpellier 1. Montpellier's goal was off a PK, but Kiedrzynek was excellent in goal for PSG, making two really good saves and one good save. Chawinga with a goal and two assists (and a questionable disallowed goal off a De Almeida shot), Katoto with a goal and an assist, Geyoro with a goal and some good key passes, and Vangsgaard with a goal and influential play throughout from RW/RWB. Karchaoui missed a PK wide after doing well to win it in the first place. Hunt and Samoura had good moments, but they were both sloppy with the ball a number of times, leading to difficult defensive periods. I seriously think Groenen is one of the most gifted all-rounders in women's football. Pulling off her plays in 28', 45+1', and 63' in the same match is absurdly good, and she had several other good passing/defensive plays.

I think PSG's offense has the potential to click in the remaining UWCL matches, but I'm not confident about PSG's defense figuring things out and keeping clean sheets or just conceding once.

Fun fact of the week at Montpellier v Le Havre game last night.
40 years old Berangere Sapowicz was on the bench for Le Havre. She is the goalkeepeing coach for them. She was born 6 February 83. She did not set foot on the pitch.
The oldest outfield players this season are both playing for Paris FC and both born in 1985.
Julie Soyer 30 June 85 and Gaetane Thiney 28 October 85.

    MHSC 2 HAC 1

FFF also published the 2024/25 season calendar already
Season start 21 September 24 and end 7 May 25.

The play-off effect in the Paris derby tonight combined with midweek champions league games: both teams rotated and rested key players as they need to be at full strength in the WCL and they know they will finish in top four so don't need to win at all costs.

Paris FC 1 Paris SG 2

Felt like the DAZN commentator was a bit of a Paris FC homer in the first half. Katoto is rounding into form, and Bachmann was impactful. Good to see Baltimore getting more and more minutes. Groenen is so good at passing right away on ball recoveries. One poor pass aside, she was class on the ball.

Forgot about the playoffs and was wondering if this much rotation/rest from both coaches made sense. PSG now three points behind Paris FC with two games in hand.

Yep Paris FC are 9 points clear of 5th placed Montpellier so no panic, same with PSG who are six points clear with two games in hand.

Lyon with an 100% record halfway through the season. Lille and Bordeaux struggling in the relegation zone although LOSC have just signed Amandine Henry on loan from Angel City FC.

The perverse effect from the play-off system is that Lyon could finish the season with 22 wins and not qualify for the Champions League...Although improbable, it is possible and that would be really unfair.

The table is slightly misleading due to the number of games postponed.
Lyon have an 100% record. PSG and Paris FC are also going to make the play-offs.

The fourth spot will be either Montpellier, Reims or Fleury.
Pre-season target was fourth place for MHSC and FCF, while Reims were trying to stay up.

At the bottom of the table, from Dijon to Bordeaux, the fight for the two relegation places will probably go all the way.

    PSG vs Reims
    1) Great movement/poaching from Martens today as she got two tap in goals and had the initial shot on Katoto's goal.
    2) Chawinga did not have her shooting boots on today. No G/A, and she wasn't involved in that possession heavy third goal.
    3) Katoto and Geyoro continue to build up their G/A numbers. Katoto's assist to Geyoro was sublime.
    4) I continue to like a lot of what I see from Elimbi Gilbert. Great to have her at LB when Karchaoui is unavailable/rested.
    5) Groenen was a great defensive shield in the 1st half and an excellent regista in the 2nd half. She got beat twice on one sequence and still ended up forcing a turnover on her third challenge attempt.
    6) So far, I've liked the Geyoro-Groenen-Martens midfield with Albert as a sub off the bench.

I hyped up Geyoro's goal vs Dijon, and I'm going to hype up Martens' second goal in this match. A 19 pass sequence involving every outfielder except for Chawinga and Le Guilly. Groenen - 5 passes, Elimbi Gilbert, Katoto, and Geyoro - all with 3 passes, Baltimore and De Almeida - both with 2 passes, and Hunt contributing with the great long switch to Elimbi Gilbert.

The pitch at the newly built PSG campus looks good despite the stupid 9pm kick-off by -5C
Also Reims who are a small team, small budget came by minibus to the game and due to extreme bad weather and road safety problem, they ended up getting an overnight hotel that was not budgeted originally from what I have been told.

    Table

    1. Lyon 36 pts pl 12
    2. PSG 28 pts pl 11
    3. Paris FC 25 pts pl 12
    4. Montpellier 19 pts pl 12

    --------------------------------------
    11. Lille 6 pts pl 12
    12. Bordeaux 5pts pl 11

Reims have opened a two points lead on Montpellier and four on Fleury for the fourth place and they have a game in hand.
At the bottom, Bordeaux are three points of safety and struggling with the lack of investment from the club.

Yes the men side financial is a mess, they ended up in the red for around 30 MEuros, so the owner had to put 40 Millions in via loans and other dodgy financial business.

It is one of the biggest problem for French men football team, they balance the book every year by selling their best players. Not many teams out of 20 in Ligue 1 Uber Eats make any money.

There could have been a bunch more fouls on PSG players in Fleury's box, and the ref wouldn't have called a PK on any of them. Fleury rode a lot of luck in this match. 24 shots, 12 shots on target, and I'm assuming a substantial xG from PSG. N'Gazi was class today, but the only element of PSG's play today that wasn't largely good was their finishing. PSG would have scored at least two more goals any other day.

P.S. Likely not a difference maker, but how did the ref call the match right at 6' of ET? Like two of those six minutes didn't see any action because of a sub and a PK box mediation.

Note Fleury are going to get a win from a 2-2 draw at Le Havre https://www.footofeminin.fr/D1Arkema-LE-HAVRE-va-perdre-un-match-par-penalite_a19068.html

Le Havre had a player suspended on 5 June for 3 bookings. Sanction to come into the first game on the 2023/24 season. But the players was named on the teamsheet until matchday 9 when Fleury got wind of it and put reserves. The other teams who played the Le Havre did not think about it. and did not appeal to the FFF.

So Le Havre will lose the point from the draw and will get an extra point penalty for fielding a suspended player, while Fleury get two extra point for the win as they had already one for the draw and a 3-0 scoreline. Quite important for the 4th place race.
