Lyon dominated Bordeaux pretty completely in a driving rain. Since "dominer n'est pas gagner" the 2-1 scoreline isn't illogical but the Girondines counterattack goal was above all down to a Renard mistake and it's the only real look they got. i think the real difference was that true grit that makes champions - unpleasant conditions, the referee letting play go on... it was that "cold, rainy night in Stoke" that FCGB isn't quite ready for yet.

who WAS ready was Kadeisha Buchanan who with regular matches under her belt is proving she's a third starter and not a first substitute and above all that Ellie Carpenter! i scoffed when someone told me she'd fill Bronze's shoes without a hitch but she looks very convincing. looks just as solid, clever and sure-footed as Lucie and a whole lot faster. some nice crosses, a first goal neatly taken, and she did it all on a cold, rainy night in Stoke. and she's only 20. as impossible as it sounds even now i believe we've made an upgrade.

Bordeaux is an solid team though; I counted 7 current & former French NT’s/4 international’s headed by Bunny Shaw.

the blowouts by Lyon probably will happen more later in the season when injuries start happening to the lesser teams, but Lyon with its buying power will keep reinforcing the winter break/transfer season

Ok, Fleury's defense mostly looked like traffic cones, But "Bunny" Shaw is a veritable force of nature.

And, physically, she looks like a giantess compared to most of the other players on the pitch! :p

Tough for Fleury, Laëtitia Philippe had a horrible game. On xG Fleury goes into the locker room ahead, no question based on what we saw of the first half here. Sissoko was dreadful too, four of the 6 FCBG goals are down to her and Philippe 100%. The lethargic defense on the corner was a shock too, Piga, Fernandes and Maupais are all much better than that.

Shaw is indeed extremely athletic, and we don't even see her pace in these highlights. but for a player with such footspeed she's fairly easy to defend against - if there's a way to be offside she'll find it. given a choice i'd definitely take Spetsmark instead.

And in the end the FFF via its executive committee has put extra money in to help the amateur teams. 8.7 MEuros will be distributed instead of the intial 6 MEuros.

The 9 professional clubs will get 627 000 Euros while the remaining three teams will get 550 000 Euros. In Division 2, the 13 women section from pro teams will get 69 000 Euros each while the remaining 11 amateurs teams will get 55 000 Euros.

Shaw has good foot skills and for me is better in and around the box, where she can use her size and ball-control and ball-striking talents, as opposed to making runs in space--though she can do that, too. This is early in her 2nd year as a pro--she still has a /lot/ of upside.

At least judging from highlights, it looks like @guignol could be right about the fact that Carpenter is actually an upgrade to Bronze?

It's two weeks that I don't see Kumagai on the pitch: did she pick an injury?

Some terrible finishing and terrible goal-keeping doomed Bordeaux against Issy, not to mention that it played the 2nd half a player down after a red card.

Is 14 goals a lot, or...?

    Matchday 8:

So, PSG's goal difference goes to +35. It's the division's biggest scoreline since a fifteen-goal haul by Lyon in September 2014. Nonetheless, after their defeat Issy are still outside the relegation zone (10th) level on 6 points with Soyaux (11th) - do Issy beat them on the head-to-head rule?

Lyon are leading the league by 2pts, the stats on footofeminin:

Matchday 8 results and table (Archive)

On Friday night (20 Nov), it's PSG v Lyon.
