On aurait pû jouer à "qui à l'équipe qui déçoit le plus cette année" ------------------------------------------ Jamel, what's your solution to spark back the OM magic. It seems to me Perrin didn't get a fair chance. I'll always remember the trick he did to Newcastle in the Intertoto Cup while he managed Troyes. Too bad Marseille isn't facing Newcastle today. We could have played "who's got the most dissapointing team this year"
---------------------------------------------- Jamel: "And mostly, players that try hard in respect to the the ones who held high the colors of the club" Good point, that's surely the biggest problem of football right now. Even the great dynasty of the Montréal Canadiens (for the lucky ones who know what I talking about) face the same problem for now a decade. For me, Marseille will never get back to glory with players unwanted elsewhere like Barthez, Marlet and Mido. But, I'll admit that Drogba is quite a buy.
Ok, getting back to which club to support... Riverhounds, the history of the club is way too long to be translated (sorry, it's at least 5 pages long), but I'll read it if you need specific answers But here's the title list: League titles 8 (1965, 1966, 1973, 1977, 1980, 1983, 1995, 2001) Coupe de France 3 (1979, 1999, 2000) You can also get some great wallpapers on the official website and look like a weirdo when people look at your computer (I bet there ain't no Nantes fanclub based in the USA). Go to the front page then click on "Supporters" & then "Fonds d'écran". Or even listen to their hymn in the section "Hymne au coeur du stade" (Is it a tifo songs, I doubt but whatever gives) Good luck with the Canaries
Thanks! The info is much appreciated. As for the history, I was just kind of asking about their stadium, the level of support for the club in France, and general stuff like that. As far as looking like a weirdo, I don't need wallpaper for that. I'll definitely check it out though.
We were traveling in Burgundy in 2001. My son and I went for a jog along the river in Auxerre. We saw their stadium and took a look inside. A group of their players were coming out for a jog. We kicked the ball around for a bit, and then we jogged together. Auxerre is my favorite French team!
I've always liked Auxerre, despite selling off their young talent every year, they always seem to have a competitive team. They must have one of the best player develpment systems in the world.
I'm here in Nantes on my study abroad year, and I can say that there are a fair amount of people, like myself who support Les Canaris. I just went to Nantes-Bastia last night, and there were over 30,000 people to watch two teams that aren't really going anywhere by way of the league. (Nantes won't get into Europe unless they win the League Cup this Saturday v. Sochaux (another team worthy of consideration, but a bit small) or beat PSG (semi-final at home) and go on to win the French Cup final. Bastia ain't goin' down, so 30K plus is impressive. I'm told that the support for Nantes was once massive (no other big club in the Northwest (rennes? ha!), but unfortunately Nantes turned into a selling club, and lost a lot of patience with their supporters. This transfer window Nantes BOUGHT Viorel Mondovan (currently in the form of his life, from some Arabian league) and Gilles Yapi-Yapo (Beveren). Both have come in and provided goals (I think Nantes have the fewest goals of anyone in the top-half). That's because before January, Nantes was completely impotent, inadequate, and incompetent. Mikael Landreau is an awesome goalkeeper, and in my opinion should have gotten his call-up by now. Good to know I can follow Les Canaris when I'm back stateside, but you should definitely give Nantes a look. Great stadium, knowledgeable fans, and what's wrong with yellow?!? ALLEZ LES JAUNES!
