Ex-Metz Frenchman, 35: http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/FootballFicheJoueur2823.html Bob Bradley on midfielder Daniel Garnero returning to Argentina: "Daniel did not play for 16 months and his professionalism is excellent. We are not certain if this is the right player for our team at this time, but we were very excited that he would come join us for this preseason. He is an excellent professional and a good person. It has been a pleasure having him around the team." Bob Bradley on Mario Rosas Leaving The Team: "Mario Rosas is a young player who we feel has talent, but we felt we needed to find a player that fits our team better. We made the decision so he can likely pursue other opportunities." MetroStars Preseason Roster (as of March 3): Goalkeepers - Paul Grafer, Tim Howard Defenders - Joe Addo, Joaquin Alvarez (MetroStars Black), Tim Glowienka, Steve Jolley, Eddie Pope, Tim Regan, Marco Velez, Morris Pagniello, Craig Ziadie Midfielders - Kenny Arena, Jacob LeBlanc, Mark Lisi, Jeff Moore, Chris Sanje (MetroStars Black), Jim Rooney, Torres Mestre, Frederik Meyrieu Forwards - Clint Mathis, Jaime Moreno, Giovanni Savarese, Derk Droze
And here's a look at Derk Droze: For those that don't remember, he was drafted by the Revs in 1996 (15th round), but cut before the season started. Since then, played in Chilean Second Division and Denmark. He also got a look from the Fire this preseason.
Frédéric Meyrieu has worn the #10 for Metz for a while and is also their captain. He is left footed and likes playing CM.
Another interesting bit of information on the training roster is the name of a midfielder named Jim Rooney which sounds vaguely familiar. Morris Pagniello remains a mystery.
Or a Lawrence Lozzano joke. Jim Rooney played for the MetroStars in 1998 and 1999. He and Bora did not get along and after he wasn't traded he asked to be waived on April 1st, 1999 along with John Wolyniec and Jim Manganello (If my memory serves me correctly). He went to Miami and tore it up down there. I expect him to make the squad here especially with the lack of midfield presense
Rooney "He went to Miami and tore it up down there. I expect him to make the squad here especially with the lack of midfield presense" He was bad last year. A Rooney/Williams tandem would be quite a sight.
What does this mean for Dillon Sheppard? I noticed BB did not mention him, and he is no longer on trial. Also, what are the current odds on Torres Mestre earning a spot? If Metro sign Jim Rooney, would it precipitate a trade of Williams, Arena, or Moore?
I hope we don't sign Rooney. I'd almost rather have Harkes than him. Almost..... Bradley will find somebody who will mesh well with the team. I guess it says something about the talent level in this league if Rosas and Garnero can't make the squad. Not to mention Bradley's preference to have guys fit in his system rather than forcing guys to play out of position.
Dan R, i'm surprised at you. Especially so because you're in Morris Couny. Pagniello was an all-state selection coming out of Morris Catholic a few years ago, then tore up his knee in a club team game before giving a commitment to a college. I believe he's been at the County College of Morris for classes, but also training to get his knee back in shape. I think being a NJ guy, Bradley just wants to see if he has any of the so called 'magic left'. Also, for those in morris county, former Devil Bruce Driver was named an assistant coach for Morristown Beard's girls ice hockey. AND current Jet Dave Szott lives a few blocks away from me. AND when I was working at Video Video Bart Oates got on my line and check out kids movies for his daugher's sleep over party! AND there's a Video Video account for 'Whitney Houston', and once you access it a window pops up that says "Bobby Brown may also rent". I wish I was famous. Mm
Bruce was great for many years in red and green, but he really sold out at the end when he crossed the river.
he unfortunately went the same way Holik will be going soon.... down ze toilet. ...wait, did I say 'will be'?
Corky has some quotes from Onyewu regarding Meyrieu: http://www.ussocceruk.com/modules.p...e=article&sid=213&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0
TYPICAL..METROS!!! ALWAYS GETTING WASHED UP NO NAME FOREIGN PLAYERS!! WHO THE HELL IS THIS PLAYER!! SERIOUSLY.. AND WE THE FANS LIKE IDIOTS.. THINK HE'S GOING TO BE OUR SAVIOR... IM SICK OF THIS...
Why don't you trust Bradley's judgment? When he brought Nowak over to Chicago, some thought he was a washed up nobody & he worked out well. Give Bob some time. Maybe Frederic is the answer, maybe not. We'll see. The guy was a good player in France for a long time. He apparently has a nice touch. The question is whether he'll be game fit by 4/12/03. He may be able to coordinate the midfield here if he is. Let's not knock him until we see him & let's give Bradley a chance to do the job he was brought in for. Anyone who thinks Bradley is done tinkering with the roster is likely very wrong.
definitely looks like every week will be a new midfielder trying out for this team. Disappointed we did not do a better job in the offseason getting a true midfield together for preseason training. Right now the midfield is very shaky at best with not much proven quality. Our FAs do not look like they will be strong once again as seems to always have been the case with this team since 1998 or so.
Whose to say our midfield won't be strong? Better Bob is trying these guys out than signing them on reputation ala Charlie Still-a-loser. Would you rather we signed Garnero or whomever & have him fail or wait it out & sign someone after seeing them play. Calm down, Chicken Littles.
Alright, let's work this one through...... Metro version 02 was crap. Awful side. We lived up to our potential boys and girls, we were a bad team, plain and simple. Enter a coach, who knows what he is doing, is a top candidate for the national team position should Arena falter. A man with a track record; knows talent, has drawn success after success from every draft and has brought in impact players and been able to work around league manipulations. He's found vertran talent and also found young talent. There's little reason to doubt his workings, indeed, they are mysterious yet wonderful. Now, in case you haven't noticed, the workings of MLS are not exactly easy to work around, a rediculously low salary cap and the trappings of a very difficult transfer system complete with stinginess. Do you really think that its easy to bring over talent here? With the passing of years, MLS has gotten stingier and stingier. Its not easy to bring in an impact player anymore. You have to look at out of contract players and recently released players, just like Bradley is doing. In my opionion, Bradley is maxing out within the system, he's brought in three number tens, all with good pedigree, but its always a gamble. We're looking at a left wing with international experience, is young and very talented. More moves are in the work. Don't worry, rebuilding does not come over night, rebuilding a franchise in a free fall like Metro is almost worse then starting from scratch. Los Piranas, Meyrieu may not be a known quantity on our shores, but how many of us knew of Nowak, or Kosecki or Ruiz or Moreno or Cienfuegos before they came into the league and did well? Obscurity has nothing to do with it, talent does. There are many talented players out there, we know a fraction of them.
