They just promoted the upcoming story; hasn't aired yet, but on tonight. Damn, SI, NPR, 60 Minutes, Letterman, MTV. It's numbing.
Did they say what time? It isn't surprising to see this, it will be interesting to see the reaction of people if Freddy starts off hot, would he have the same effect on attendence in MLS as Hamm did in the WUSA? If so, we can ask nothing more of the kid.
I am guessing it's before or after the Stefan Fatsis sports segment. It's pretty random when they broadcast it.
Here's a link: http://www.npr.org/features/feature.php?wfId=1794027 It says audio will be available at 7:30pm ET
That's when the audio is available. I am listening live and they have been talking about hypersonic flight and I-95. Remember to bounce between WETA and WAMU in the 6 o'clock hour!
I've been listening on and off - my god this is horrible radio, thankfully, I forgot to listen on my way home, I'd have fallen asleep and driven into a tree (or fallen onto the Greenway and made the traffic report). If I had to listen to this everyday, I'd swallow a bullet. Why can't Freddy be on 98Rock I almost made it to 40 without listening to NPR, hope I catch the kid after all this, maybe I should turn off this Triumph DVD ......
I am getting an .smil file and can't hear it. Given the script now on npr.org, it'll be on in the "even" hour at 10 before the next hour (which means 4:50 and 6:50 Eastern and Central, 5:50 Mountain and Western). Check your local listings. Your mileage may vary. I still can't get the file to play. Kronk.
Since it is a guy from the Wall Street Journal who was reporting on Freddy, it makes me wonder if the WSJ will have something on Freddy.
It's playing now on the radio. And MEE-shell Norris calls the team The D.C. United. SEND HER TO THE GEORGE MICHAEL HALL OF SHAME!!!! BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!! (And, for that matter, bring back Linda Wertheimer and stop marginalizing Bob Edwards!)
Well, there IS an on-line WSJ article about Adu. Since I don't have a subscription to the paper and the bigsoccer password does not work, I cannot comment on the article. The link to the article can be found at MLSNET's newstand (second article/link of March 26's newstand, titled "Much Ado"). Hopefully, someone with a WSJ on-line subscription can provide us mere mortals with a summary of the article.
The audio link is working. It's the standard "business of sports" piece that NPR does weekly. Great to hear them discussing Freddy and soccer, but didn't really say anything that regular posters don't know already (except maybe the videogame endorsement).
Well that takes the guess work out of who's gonna be on the cover of FIFA Soccer 2005. Oh ****!!! Let's hope the cover curse doesn't apply to FIFA!
Per the WSJ article... Nothing much in terms of news. Mentions that MLS and Nike aren't trying to exploit Freddy in marketing sense yet. Restricting access to media outlets, not phone interviews etc. Garber promises not to "not abuse this special moment". Mentions the potential for burnout if they are too agressive with him. There is a quote from The Bruce talking about how europe has hundereds of Adu's so no one is annointed as the next soccer savior the way Adu is being here. Like I said, not a whole lot for the intense Freddy watcher but something interesting for the casual fan, I guess.
bruce didnt say that, don't be ridiculous, thats completely false, adu has played against european kids
Um, Bruce has said that. I don't think he means it but rather he doesn't want to over-hype Adu. Also, you should just become a premium member so that you can have your sig be some comment fellating Adu so that you don't have to type out a new message every post. It'll sace you some time.
Stefan Fatsis is both the regular NPR sports/sports business reporter and the WSJ sports reporter. NPR is, of course, the only thing on your radio worth listening to.
Not really; Landon Donovan in 2003, Thierry Henry in 2002, Eddie Pope in 2000, Roy Lassier in 1998 --- oopsie!
