    "AND THE REST

i read that as well in a different newspaper.. i have to admit i'd side with the loss of freddie and bring in the free kick specialist. I can imagine the spanish sides having difficulty reading ljungberg's mazy runs and beckham could bring that dimension of crosses that arsenal have never had. all about money tho innit?

The Beckham to Arsenal rumour resurfaces eh. Im sure this has been bandied about in the past and my feelings remain much the same.

On the one hand im sceptical on him as a player fitting into the clubs style of play. Hes an excellant crosser of the ball, but do any of our forwards look that comfortable shooting from arial balls. I cant even recall the last time Henry scored from a header. But my memory is shyte so....

On the OTHER hand. Whenever we get a free kick within 25 yards and either Henry or Pires saddle up to take it I always find myself thinking "God I wish we had David Beckham". When we score from that position it always feels more like luck than judgement.

Anyone watch the Everton v Toon highlights today. Carsley scored an absoloute PEACH of a free kick. Lovely bit of swerve on it too. I must confess to never having really noticed him before but.....does he do that sort of thing often? Is he available? Might make for a good bargain buy if he is does that sort of thing "often".

I think it's going to be tough to get anyone out of Everton during the transfer window for two reasons. First, they are doing well (they are currently 3rd), and secondly, they have money from the Wayne Rooney transfer, so I think they will be looking to "buy" as opposed to "sell".

I'll take that as a "No he doesnt do that sort of thing very often" then. Like I said I never really noticed him before. Im a bit green when it comes to anything going on outside of the top 4-5 teams.

And Gunners11... I hadnt even considered the Rooney money. Good point china.

Don't worry - I'm going to get a red card for him. I think someone's hacked into Dave's account. Firstly its a long post, secondly he wants us to buy Lee Bloody Carsley.......!!!

I agree. Freddie has done nothing but play in his best form so far this season, and I see no reason to "trade" him for Beckham.

Agreed!!! But have another look at the second goal; someone younger and faster might well have got a hand to it?

As for Beckham??? This is a very old rumour and I honestly don't know what I think about it. I don't think Becks will ever be a 1st rate all round player again, but someone who can take a decent dead ball could be worth 10 or 15 goals in a season and dead ball is crucial in the CL? Titi takes an awesome free kick, but, only from one place! Even DB10 is only B+ with a stationary ball and as much as I can't stand the media moron he is A++ at free kicks and corners? Just imagine what an 3 or 4 extra goals a piece for Campbell, Toure, Paddy, Gilberto and even RVP could do to our chances of doing the back to back?

    Hhhhhmmmmmmmm I don't knooooooowwwwww????????????????

I can see three reasons, money, money and more money. Arsenal are gonna have a lot of seats to sell when we move to Ashburton Grove. Beckham's celebrity will go far to sell tickets, especially those of the money-spinning, prawn sandwich eating, corporate box variety. I've always thought Beckham was overrated, but he is a talented player. It would also be nice to have another England star in an Arsenal shirt.

I agree, Beckham would definately bring in a good slice of funds, that's not something I figured into my reply, but it's an important part of the whole rumor.

If its a question of money, then yes go get becks. But for footballing reasons no way! Becks is not a world class player (he is a good player and a world class crosser and dead ball specialists...excluding penalties  )

I would prefer Shaun Wright-Phillips. Maybe we could offer Pennant plus cash for him. I think he would fit in well with our style of play and he can and is willing to defend.

Yes. Go get SWP or Beckham in January. Obviously, all of the team's ineptitudes in defending and scoring recently fall squarely at the feet of Ljungberg. He must be replaced since the absence of an English right-midfielder is what's holding Arsenal back in the CL.

    whatthefvckever.

Arsenal should spend the money where it's actually needed.

Dude! I can understand your not being happy about ditching Freddie in order to put bums on seats at AG, but if it were a choice between Freddie and SWP it's no contest! Whatever we need right now, if Shaun were available we should buy him. Neither Freddie or Pennant are in his class and he's a natural match for us.

As for getting hot under the collar about who we really need in January, well...this is a thread about Swapping Fred for Becks, not the January transfer thread?

I wouldn't have thought you guys currently have the money for this deal. You may feel that Beckham and Ljundberg are not too far apart in footballing terms but the commercial value of Beckham means that Real would want a lot of monetary compensation.

I suspect they'd be much more interested in a Beckham for Vieira swap but don't think Arsene would take too kindly to that ;)

I only brought up the money issue because i just read this article on the net. Not the Cheap Seats- Guardian In the article they talk about the exorbitant prices Arsenal is charging for club level tickets in the new stadium. If Chelsea can maintain their current form, I fear that the drawing power of Beckham could be necessary to keep the fickle fanny's of non-fans in these overpriced seats. :(

If Ashley Cole was right back then fine... but Becks won't have the same effect he had in his top form at United unless he commits himself to working harder and getting past defenders or advanced down the wing to make his crosses... you don't have a target to latch onto 40 yard balls from inside your half to the box... he is however very capable of playing a simple passing game with the ball on the ground, but would not be as effective or potent in your attack on the wing as Freddie would. However... i know you guys like Cesc, but Becks partnering Vieira in the middle would be a very good combo imo. He would spring the wingers who could make runs and that would create more space for Henry or whomever through the middle because if Becks is playing balls to wingers you have to mark them tightly... so finally, my verdict... NO, not Becks for Freddie plus cash... makes no sense Becks for cash then fine - although i doubt u could afford it straight up.

As official club representative, I'd like to make it known Lee Carsley is a valued member of our team and we couldn't possibly sell him unless arsenal met our valuation of £25 million.

We would also be willing to discuss the much rumoured "£20m + Vieira" deal...
