I thought you were one of the first. I sat out 2010-11. Thank You for sticking to your guns all these years. We owe you one. edit: Oops, almost forgot: #HauptmanOut $HauptmanOut
This is great, can you make it into blog post format? We could put this up on the site. It has some real insight into what we're doing and will give me more time to be able to do more research on my next blogpost.
My credentials as a Klopas Kritic are second to none and even I must admit that it is difficult to arrive at a fair judgement of the man's coaching abilities given that he has labored under two of the worst surviving ownerships in MLS. Hauptman is cheap and meddling and Saputo is just nuts. This greatly limits our ability to judge exactly where Klopas himself has succeeded and failed. I'm not sold on him as a coach who can build an MLS Cup winning team. Then again, only one coach in all of MLS really knows how to do that so, FWLIW, I guess that no matter how good or bad Klopas may be, he is in the same room as everyone except Bruce Arena.
Arena in LA (since 2008): 4 appearances, 3 trophies Sigi in C-bus and Seattle (since 2008): 1 appearance, 1 trophy Not even close. And Sigi can't blame a cheap owner either...
That was a fat joke, yo. As a fat man, I am constitutionally obligated to make fat jokes about Sigi as a sign of solidarity with my pie eating brethren. However: MLS Cup, Supporters' Shield, Canadian Bullshit and USOC since 2008: Sigi: 7 (1 MLS Cup, 2 SS, 4 USOC) Arena: 5 (3 MLS Cups, 2 SS) Vermes: 2 (MLS Cup, USOC) Aron Winter: 2 (2 Canadian Championships) Kreis: 1 (MLS Cup) Gary Smith: 1 (MLS Cup) Soehn: 1 (USOC) Olsen: 1 (USOC) Warzycha: 1 (SS) Petke: 1 (SS) Yallop:1 (SS) Carl Robinson: 1 (Canadian Championship) Frank Klopas: 1 (Canadian Championship) Preki: 1 (Canadian Championship) Chris Cummins: 1 (Canadian Championship) Marco Schällibaum: 1 (Canadian Championship) He's not in the same room as Bruce in the penthouse, but if we're judging him against the rest of the MLS coaching fraternity and alumni, Sigi gets his own room.
Do you really want Yallop to remain as head coach? If I keep repeating that you like Yallop as coach, does that make it true? What's another realistic option for the team right now? Wynalda? Sign him up. Bradley? No way are we getting him. CJ? Doesn't want to be here apparently. Curtain? I'd take him. What's next?
No. Look, I get it, he's Mr. Chicago Soccer - Always Has Been | Always Will Be - That doesn't mean he would be doing any better at player acquisition with Andy or coaching. Jesus, it's like we forgot he put players out of position too and had bizzaro substitution patterns too. The only difference between the two is that Klopas is all passion & energy and Yallop has to get in a nap Nothing he's shown says "good coach" Well and if he's going to be in the US, he wants to be close to family, in Jersey Neither does Bob, and neither wants to have their careers derailed by Hauptman He's probably growing as a coach - but nothing special yet Turnips follow Potatos Lets not forget his stellar indoor soccer coaching career as well, not to mention telling Barrett he should be in Europe and acquiring players like Soumare and thinking "Yeah, that'll work"
No ones defending yallop, he is horrible. With that klopas is in no way a MLS calibre coach or talent evaluator. Heck, I would say yallop has a better eye for talent but is a much worse coach/ game day manager. Klopas needs to come back to Chicago and get back in involved with youth / inner-city programs.. That's his calling... And that's where he is needed.
Klopas is a great guy but imo very inflexible concerning rotation or giving the kids a chance. Yallop is much better with that and talent evaluations but mystifyingly plays guys out of position. You cant win for losing.
To be honest, without a fundamental change in the operation of the club, I wouldn't want anyone I like to take a key position working for Andrew, and in fact, I would lose a ton of respect for that person.
This is such a sad statement, although I understand the sentiment. I take an opposite approach. I want everyone in key positions to be people I like and respect, as THAT would be a fundamental change in the operation of the club. Mr. Hauptman has systematically dismantled everything good about the team and, most of all, destroyed the continuity of the club. From 1998-2007, we had 3 Coaches (Bradley, Dave the Short, Osorio had just been appointed when AEG sold) 1 General Manager (Wilt) 3 Presidents (Sanderman, Wilt, Guppy) 6 Assistant coaches (Hamlett, Klopas, Jeffries, Shore, Soehn, Reynolds?) Since he has taken over, we have had: We have had 5 Coaches Osorio Hamlett CDLC Klopas Yallop 5 Presidents Guppy (fired 2008) Leon (2008) Greeley (the soccer hating asshat of 2008-2010) Leon (2010) Posada (2010-2012) as president and have not had one at all since 2012 (so, effectively, that would be Hauptman). 0 General Managers 12 Assistant Managers 2 Technical Directors 3 Director of Soccer something or other 1 Vice President of Nothing (Pause) All Hauptman has to do is simply hire a GM/President, who has a connection to the Club and the City and let that person take charge. He could step away and could his money. Almost all of us would be happy with that turn of events. Probably not going to happen, though.
I'd be overjoyed to see an empowered, competent President even if he had no connection to the club or city.
True. At the same time, though.... Hauptman. Eh. *shrugs* Klopas ain't coming back, Andy's not selling and Yallop will still be whatevering until Andy finds a cheaper and/or more sycophantic option at head coach so who the fvck cares anyway?
Sure it is fit for the Delusion Thread, but my point is that Hauptman could easily make the situation better by getting the hell out of the way, as opposed to selling outright.
