it was time......thanks for the supporters shield last year, but positional stubbornness bit him in the ass not getting a team that are supporters shield winners out of this tailspin, and underperforming this badly, it just had to happen.
I wouldn't say "positional stubbornness" -- rather I'd say inability to successfully adapt to changing conditions...
I want Spencer in, this team needs a firm kick in the ass and thats just the wee little man to do it.
On a serious note, I have very mixed emotions. Frank is the best coach this franchise has ever had. He is a great person and has always represented the team well in the community. With a new GM (see Doyle) and a new ownership group, he was able to take the team to a SS in four years and two playoff appearances. As I stated at the end of last year, I doubt that I will enjoy a regular season again as much as I did the 2012 season. Thanks Frank for all of your contributions to the team and I look forward to the day that you enter the Hall of Fame for the team. For 2013, it's clear the team had come off it's tracks. The team doesn't seem to be responding to Frank and he didn't appear to be enjoying it (who would?). Something needed to occur. So, while I have no problem with the move, it should be the first of several. We need to look at the players and move some and add a few. Also, Doyle position should be reviewed as he has been part of the problem... Sad...
This is great news and FRANKly long overdue. I appreciate what he's done in the past but he's lost the script in more ways than one. We need changes to grow as a team and I was sick to death of his longball tactics. Maybe now we'll finally get that Argentine CM.
Wow. You did it.. You crazy sunuva----, you did it.. If this was thanks to Kaval pushing it, kudos to him and to everyone who wrote him(even going back a couple years). Can't believe this. A new chapter for the Earthquakes starts today.
Nice one. Now lets get some better players too. John Spencer I assume would be number 1 on their list. Don't know if he is any better.
Additional thoughts. We are thinking that the Quakes FO pushed him out, but it could be that Frank decided to resign due to lack of support from the GM and FO. He may have asked to move players or add some to offset the poor performing players this year. Pure speculation, but this is BS!
I go to a 2-hour meeting and you guys do THIS! Watson...really? I'm not sure how I feel about that. But I'm a person who has a tough time with transitions. I guess I'd hoped that Frank was fixable.
I have no problem with Mark Watson being named the interim head coach. I must admit that the I do find it odd to name him the interim coach "for the remainder of the season". It seems that you are admitting that you need to find a different person to hold the spot long term, and that you are giving up on the remainder of the 2013 season. They could have someone in mind that won't be available until after the season. Or, maybe they just haven't done any planning for this scenario (which unfortuantely, with this organization, seems possible) and think it will take them several months to identify a candidate. I certainly hope they find a permanent solution sooner rather than later and make an honest effort to get back in the playoff picture and with the Champions league as well.
